So-Youn Park

^ dont worry, we will have 4CC and worlds in the future, and actually, we will have plenty of outings in the future. Nowadays, I think majority skating fans, only cares about their fav skaters to have a good skate, and could not care less about the judging anyway.

True... I just get worried that the skaters themselves might lose some morale seeing what's going on. But yes, you are right, we gotta keep the spirit up!

And she isn't participating in other senior B's, then? :(

I guess no, but korean national perhaps will have good cam (both fancam and official) come out.
Next season, maybe she can compete in senior B's for experiences and her world ranking, I am afraid that one day if her world ranking is too low to get 2 GPs than, we should worry about she dont have enough outings, which will be sad for us fans... This season is fine.

find a fancam of SoYoun talk to a fan during SA and why it is not me :cry::cry:

"Park began skating when she was eight years old, in the first grade of elementary school. In 2009, she became the youngest Korean national team member, aged 13."

Am I the only one who is impressed that she started skating at age eight? Most kids start landing axels at that age! It is simply incredible that in 5 years she was already part of the national team, while starting at an age that for ladies is considered "late".

I will say the same thing someone mentioned in Sakhanovich's fan fest (Sima also started skating at 8): Imagine what she would be doing had she started skating when she was 4 or 5!

I don't know, dear, because each skater has their own pace/puberty/growing issue. Maybe starting late can be better for some. Johnny Weir started when he was 12.
I hope So Youn can do well. She has the best jumps in the field. Not as explosive as Liza but more elegant.

You also have to admit though that it is not as uncommon for men to start skating slightly later - they seem to pick up the jump difficulty faster due to their body types and don't feel the effects of puberty as much as the women.

But yeah, I feel the same way about So Youn's jumps! She just needs a couple of clean programs now but the quality is there. ;)

Agree. Men are luckier than ladies. I am thinking maybe less training when they were too young might be better for their bodies.
Still, So Youn is so talented. I mean she started at the age of 8!! And look at her jump quality!!

I wonder at what age Yuna started having all of her triple? Maybe because she trained too soon her back was injured that much?

Yuna had the "package" of 5 triple jumps at age 10 (maybe 9? but pretty sure 10) as she once said in a TV show. Makes So Youn's technique and her achievements so far that much more impressive given she started when Yuna was already well on her way to learning all the triples.

I really hope So Youn can do a full clean program for Worlds. Either SP or LP, I love her jumps and she has a very nice way of moving.

Aside from consistency, So Youn really need a program that make her stand out. So Youn is a much better skater than Hae Jin but I still find somewhat lacking in her skating, not exciting like I watch HJ. Her performance for some reasons feel really ... long, that's not a good sign for a skater if one watch your perf and think "when will it end?"

She is baking by basically the most useless fed so she get every single point only by her talent alone. Put all the technique TES aside, every skater need at least one outstanding program/performance to introduce them to the world, or the judges. A gentle elegant princess ballerina style won't help her PCS at this point. Something fierce, command, charisma is helpful.

That I agree. But well... the ladies field at the moment has not many programs that stand out you know.
So consistency is the key.

So SY has to need something to stand out even more. Consistency is just helpful when you already a well known name which SY is not.

I think consistency is the first stage. She is just 16. She has more 3 years to strike for some special programs IMO.

I must made it more clear though, I mean her style, not a specific program.

I see her jump technique are quite like Yuna's, but overall style is more like Mao. Anyway, good for her the next Olympic in Korea so she may get benefit in some way.

So you mean she needs to develop a distinctive style? I understand. Let's wait and see.
Maybe somethings like a trademark move can do.

i agree, she needs something uptempo like Yuna's dance macabre(my fave SP of her:love:), btw meoima she is 17 now , she celebrated her birthday at SA :yay:

SoYoun posted some very "sultry" selfie on her Instagram recently, not open to public anymore, but some fans reposted in their facebook, and I by chance saw the photos, maybe she is experimenting with some new make-up/style ...
to be honest, I think SoYoun is already a very unique and stand-out skater when I watch SA live (trust me she will grab your attention, once she started to move). I dont know, if change into something sassy will really help her PCS... and her key is still to land her jumps...
but this girl is improving very fast, as mentioned she started figure skating at 8 and as we all can see that she is improving every season, and some of the quality she has are those intangibles...
