Sofia Akateva

If the proposal that is made goes through, Sofia won't be senior until the next Olympic season 25-26.
The age cut off will be the same next season - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
The next season they raise the age limit to sixteen - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
The next season they raise the age limit to seventeen - Sofia misses out with 7 days.
Then the next season will be the Olympic season - and then Sofia will be senior eligible.

Sofia is the most unlucky skater. The age, this year's junior worlds where she would have became the world champ with very high probability, the senior nationals. I hope it won't affect her eager to skate, such fantastic talent shouldn't be wasted.
It will affect her negatively. 5 years in juniors? Lol. Also it's not humanly possible for Sofia to keep her Ultra jumps from age 12 or 13 to age 18 or 19.

Can you imagine if they told AZ she would have to be in juniors for at least five years? She would have said screw this and gone back to her hometown to teach kids figure skating.

A new SA fan here...
well...I guess on the up side, she will not be one of the older skaters at the Olympics (if she qualifies).
Also, since there's only one spot avail for Russia in the upcoming season at the World Championships (if Team Russia is allowed to skate), perhaps it's for the best that she's still a junior as currently she's head and shoulders above the rest of the field. If she competes in the senior level, the competition is more fierce for that ONE spot? Just trying to stay positive in this unfortunate situation...
Hi Joy. Sofia seems to be a very special skater. But what is this one spot at World stuff? Russia did not compete at Worlds because of the international skating union decision. Did they make an announcement saying Russia has only one spot at Worlds when they come back? Everything should stay the same when they are let back in or should I say if they are let back in? To say world's and Junior worlds without Russia were underwhelming would be an understatement.

If the international skating Union is still Banning Russia through next season or only gives them one spot at Worlds in all four disciplines when they're by far the best country in the world then Russia should leave the ISU and start their own organization with Belarus even if it's just two countries they will have much better Grand Prix series a 10 times better Europeans and twice as good worlds will without Russia and Belarus. There are many soccer leagues around the world there are many baseball leagues around the world there are many football leagues around the world there are different golf leagues around the world why should figure skating have only one League or organization? Before the ISU completely destroys Russian figure skating maybe the Russians should do their own thing.

As for Sofia I am afraid because she only skated a little bit this season and probably only a little bit next season her talent will be stunted in the coming years.. but maybe we will get lucky and Russia will be skating internationally next season if not they need to come up with a plan B. They have too much talent for it just to die away like has happened with the three maximum per discipline rule.

Nice to meet you Joy and have a nice day. Let's hope this brilliant Russian girl gets a chance to shine in the coming years like her predecessors have but it's all up in the air right now.

Hi Scott512,
I came across this info from Wikipedia as well as read it from somewhere but can't remember the exact source....

I think it will be a matter of talks, dealings, negotiations etc., whether Russians will be allowed to compete anf if so, then whether they will keep their quotas or not.

Edit: IMO it will much depend on the CAS desision, if the arbitrary will decide in favour of the russian applications then they will very probably keep their quotas.

Joy, I guess it could be just one quota but I think negotiations would have to happen obviously Russia would have gone the world's and would have won the most medals. But hopefully a miracle will happen the war will end and Russia can get back to competing internationally if not they will have to do their own competitions with Belarus because they cannot let all this incredible talent like Sofia just sit on the sidelines doing nothing. Last year was already a waste for her.

Then if Russia is banned again next season and they don't go to Worlds I guess that means they have no quotas for the future anywhere internationally which means they are not a part of the isu. International skating Union is on a slippery slope here what they are doing to Russia they have never done to any other country before and there have been plenty of opportunities to ban other countries because of invasions leading to War. In reality three spots is just not enough for Russian ladies probably not even enough for Russian Pairs and dance since they're so deep in those categories as well. Russia has Anna Sasha Liza Maya Dasha Kamila Ksenias Adelia Sonya M Samodelkina Znina ready to skate senior next season. That's 11 Girls plus other veterans in Moscow and St Petersburg for only three spots. If they get banned they should do their own thing create their own organization even if it's just for two countries. The Russian figure skating Federation must be creative so they can make sure they develop Sofia and other young skaters. There's lots of talent there besides Anna and Sasha and KV.

And when I bring up doing their own thing with Belarus it doesn't have to be in direct conflict with the international skating Union season a Russians in Belarus into their camps in June they can start a short season in late June and ended September 30th or something like that before the ISU season even begins. They don't have to do things in direct conflict at this point with the ISU. But Russia also could not let their incredible skaters who had short seasons go through this again and again or their talent will be diminished.

The professional tennis organizations being against the banishment of Russian tennis players and the cas decision favoriting the Russian appeal of their banishment from Worlds could the important factors and what happens next season for Russian skaters. But there's also no reason for the court 4 Sports to take 3 months to rule on a very simple appeal.

As for SA I hope she keeps her skill level high and her motivation level high after not being at junior worlds when she is by far the best Junior girl in the world.

This could not pass.
Not only for Sophya.
Raising the age 3 consecutive years you create a gap of 3 years in which no new senior will appear on the scene.
It should be like this but once every two years or with a scheduled grandfathering program to introduce new senior progressively.

Seems I was wrong.
The don't give a damn about the skaters.
ISU it's just federations politic over and above the skaters.
The abuse they allegedly claim to fight with this rule starts there: in a place when you take a leg cutting decision for a lot of skaters without blinking, when you could have easily worked out a better compromise that will reach yuor goal without killing the career of skater who worked for years under the old age rules.
It's a sad day.
I stay in the corner of my cloud of cotton candy, but it should be very hard for her adding that to the bad from junior international competitions.
