Sofia Muravieva

Muravieva's free skate for 2023/24. Not as impressive as her short program, more was expected, but still a good and enjoyable skate by all means.
Not sure why I was so hard on this earlier when I first saw it. On reflection I actually love it now like a typical Muravieva skate.

Definitely my #1 overall from these test skates. Although my favourite sole program still must go to Petrosian's FS.

A huge congratulations to Sofia on her silver medal 🥈at Nats!

And perhaps as important she landed all her 3As!! :cheer:

And overcame a most unfortunate fall in the SP which left her in 3rd going into the free skate.

This was on at like 1:30am in the morning for me, although I wasn't able to get to sleep so I ended up catching half her program which was practically flawless!

It was also clear that Sofia reeeeeallly wanted to win, but I hope she's still super proud of herself!

Molodetz!

SP (Can't find this on YouTube at the moment I'm afraid!):

Translation of Sofia's interview directly after the Free Skate at Test Skates:

Sofia Muravieva will take part in AoP shows:

Its scheduled for dec 29

A little early I'd think? Shouldn't she be full focus on nats? I suppose maybe that week after nats could be enough for her to prepare for a show though. I am sure at this point she memorizes show programs extremely easily/quickly. As long as her part isnt too long.

That is a question for Plushenko naturally. It is weird that after like a year of explaining why Mura won't take part at Plushy shows she suddenly goes and just shortly after nationals.

I've been lurking on here without a profile but saw so little discussion on here last year and this year despite all the commotion of her changing couches and such.

On the other hand, Sofia tied with Dina yesterday in the short program with a score of 72.60. Looking forward to today and the rest of this season for Sofia! I also really hope this forum comes back to life this season, hopefully to celebrate her success. Muravieva is such a special skater and deserve all the attention and so much more.

The Russian side of the forum is at least more alive than last season according to the numbers. A little more people watching stages. Unfortunately it's competing with stacked international tournaments every time.

You should come watch live with us in the tournament threads. We would love some more people. There was plenty of discussion about her there. Also, there is the 25/26 Russian ladies thread where people tend to discuss things like coaching changes more. These fan threads are not really used for much discussion anymore like they used to. At least not the Russian ones. Especially not for tournament results like yesterday, unless it's a nationals victory announcement. They're mostly used for posting media. I might try to keep this one alive again. Flanker is keeping all the TeamTut ones up.

To me, Muravieva somehow grants tournaments a prestige which even Adeliia doesn't, though I'm a fan of the latter. Muravieva's programs are always serious, personal & engaging. She has a unique style which I'm glad she hasn't ventured outside of like a lot of skaters do to force variety. I can never stay seated watching her skate. She makes me so nervous. I don't know what it is about her but she really is special.

She looks way better this season than last. Many users suggested she is on inevitable decline. Only a couple of us were defending her the whole way and this season we will collect our vindication.

I think this season will determine everything and I am extremely nervous about it. I have never been so emotionally invested in a skater before. I wish the best for all skaters, but man do I want her to succeed especially. I hate seeing Sofia down.

Everything is so uncertain, I saw a post saying she has gained weight, grew in height, I cannot tell, do you think so? Could that be a factor in the falls in jumps? What about the missed steps in choreo that ultimately dropped her from the podium? Is it motivation from not being able to compete internationally? But she is not behaving like someone lacking in motivation, she made many moves to improve her circumstances like changing coaches. I think I understand the nuance in her situation on an emotional level but it also seems very vague and uncertain to me. The lack of clarity regarding my favorite figure skater is lowkey making me lose sleep lol.

I'm also relatively new to all this and do not read or understand Russian. Mura won't be at Moscow, will she be at Omsk?

It's not determining everything. She looks better than last season generally. Significantly faster and her entries are more difficult. Her SP performance was convincing to me. It's an extremely difficult program. Very choreographically dense. More difficult than any other women's SP I've seen this season. She skated episodically at TS/Panin yet in Kazan it became smooth. A hopeful improvement. She isn't going to retire if this season goes poorly. She should make the national team and she'll keep trying. This season is more crucial for a skater like Akateva. Apart from Adeliia, Akateva fans should be the most stressed this year. Skaters like Muravieva and Frolova will be fine. No dangerous physical struggles ahead of them barring injury. They should only become more comfortable and acquainted with their body. The nerves will subside with experience. It would be heartbreaking to see another poor season from Muravieva but it would ultimately be her choice if it defines her career or not. Sinitsyna is another skater who seems to be in a far worse position than Muravieva right now.

She hasn't grown and won't. She is 19 already. Doesn't look like she gained weight to me. I don't know what people are talking about. In any case I don't think it's a factor in her jumps. She is physically capable. Last season it was said she could skate 10 clean programs in training but couldn't get it together for competition. Must be mental. Adeliia or Bazyluk for example admit they still struggle in training (physical issue).

It would've been a decent start without the ChSq fail. This was truly catastrophic. I imagine it broke her, she fell apart after this. Though she ultimately started the skate with a mistake anyways. Bad Lutz forced her into an early SEQ instead of a combo which also affected her surely.

This ChSq is the worst mistake I've ever seen from someone of her caliber. Good thing it happened at stages and not Nats. It was once she missed Nats podium over a StSq fall and the next season she might've missed a gold medal for the same reason. This time she missed a catch-foot just gliding in a straight line. Totally incomprehensible. I mean, it clearly suggests this is all psychological. She is notorious for such fiascos but missing an isolated catch-foot is outrageous.

5th place is terrible. She is competing against Gorbacheva, Dvoeglazova and Sadkova in Omsk. It's a problem as she likely needs podium for a confident RGPF qualification. Lyashenko looks incredible and it's no guarantee she beats Akateva either. This is all suggesting an average performance. If she's perfect she makes bronze (which she realistically needs). If she does even worse than her first stage it's all over. I'll pray you don't get a heart attack watching her in Omsk because I might.

Is it motivation from not being able to compete internationally?
I don't think so. This is a factor for some but likely not her. She seems to love skating and performing in itself. In her best season she was clearly grateful for just skating a clean FS at Nats despite not winning over the SP mistake.

Mura won't be at Moscow, will she be at Omsk?
Yes, she will be at Omsk.
