Sofia Samodelkina

It makes sense since the junior competition will be stronger than the senior one.
Is that why they did it? You do know KV is skating in the senior Russian cup final. ;)

But I get your point and I would like SS on the podium here. But the top 4 or 5 junior rushing girls will be insanely completed in just like at nationals.

I saw that the Davydov team posted an excerpt of Anna Frolova's new short program. I think there's an excerpt from Sofa's out there somewhere too. Can someone post it here? I don't have any social media....

Thanks so much! It will be exciting to see a new long program from her especially, since she's had that same one for three years now -- thanks to the weird luck of going into the coronavirus season having just repeated her long program the year before.

Good job in the free skate today for SS. She won the bronze but I am tired of seeing Sofia get Gubanovaed at home. I mean was her fine free skate really 16 points less
than Sofia A's? I don't think so and both had very good free skates to be honest. SA clearly deserved the gold and is the #1 junior girl. But they seem to be holding SS down in certain ways and now there's discussion about whether she will even get a second jpg event which is preposterous. Of course SS should get a second jpg nd she will make the jpg final.

Let's talk about her quads and how good they are and let's talk about simplifying Sofias short program so she can skate a clean short program and set everything up for the free skate where she hits her quads.

I think she has a lot of potential.

Of course she isn’t getting Gubanova treatment, that’s reserved for Anna Frolova, who’s not getting neither senior, nor junior opportunities this season. What 1 User on Goldenskate has to say about her assignments means nothing for Sofia’s actual career.

As for her score: she could’ve scored higher, but why drag Akatieva into this? You know, she’s not the only one she lost to today? There’s also Zinina, who only did 1 quad clean and the other one with a step out, and she scored only 2 points less than Samodelkina, which did 3 quads. Why are you not making a fuss about that and just trying to drag Akatieva?
Akatieva’s scores are not only justified, because of higher BV due to 3A and zero double jumps in her FS , but also could’ve been higher with more accurate PCS scoring. Considering scores in previous JGPs, Samodelkina‘s scores could’ve been higher too in my book.

I think they could have not called 4Lz, I didn’t see a q call there, so with that and higher PCS she would have been 2nd. << call was not unjust, but that’s not a bad competition overall for Sofia. She still has quite a few competitions this season to earn good SB and her GP spots.

Akatieva scored less in PCS than Zhilina, let that sink in. Considering scores in previous JGPs, Samodelkina‘s scores could’ve been higher too in my book.

Not dragging SA into it but Samos free skate was better than it was scored.
Scoring is all over the pace in Russian girls juniors and has been for years.

Again I am not bringing one Sofia down to raise another one up. SA does great things and gets great scores. Samo IMO deserves better scores than she often receives.

You mentioned PCS scores and I don't know what to say about that anymore. We've seen a lot of beautiful skaters get jobbed with PCS scores over the years and skaters without the same same skating skills get as good or better PCS scores and left us scratching our heads.

Yes SS teammate Anna gets no breaks. Davydov has a nice team. They need more respect.

I think there are some things which I don’t agree with, for example, Petrosian‘s PCS in last JGP and Kulikova‘s scores too, aside from Samodelkina and Akatieva‘s PCS. All could have scored higher. But I always think at the end of the day, these competitions don’t matter as much. Scores change as season goes, and of course it’s more accurate when the skaters compete against each other, rather than across competitions.

This always happens on JGP and GP: one competition some girls get generous calls and GOEs, the other they get hammered by the panel. I don’t see any gross injustice thus far. Either way the standings would have been close between Samo and Zinina, as well as Petrosian and Muravyova, it could have gone either way and it’s okay the way it is.
Nothing bad happened to Sofia‘s career, it’s only her junior international debut and I’m pretty sure her, Zhilina and Akatieva will be going to worlds barring any meltdowns or injuries.

Sofia S is extremely talented, and already has 3A and all quads aside from 4F. Rusfed will be shooting themselves in the foot if they will not nurture her talent, and I don’t think they are stupid enough to do that. I’m sure she’ll get it together eventually, she’s already looking miles better than at that Moscow championship. She’ll give Akatieva a good fight for medals.

I think we agree that Sofia S is very talented and does need to be nurtured. I think she's a little bit or a good bit bigger than most of the other junior girls and that's a factor too. But she seems to have her quads down it's the short program they need to make cleaner for her. So far it seems that the SP has been an issue for her kind of the way it has been for Sasha.

I think SS could end up as a number 2 junior girl this year. Or maybe she will shock the world the way Alina did in the 2016 JPG final.
