Sota Yamamoto

Who is this J3 BTW? How dare he/she score him so low!:dev2:

I thought so too. Jia Yao was judge 3. She gave lower scores overall. but thought Sota's scores were particularly low compared to other judges.

She gave 4's and low 5 for components while other judges gave 6's and 7's. He also got edge call for combo (3Lz+2T)

Not sure if I've managed to soothe my ruffled nerves yet, but I'll try: Good luck tomorrow, Sota! Best of luck, and please skate just for yourself, and ignore them judges; they're not worth being nervous over. As we say: those who want to beat a dog will always find a stick. And the 3A isn't worth it either. Stay calm, stay healthy, try to be clean. That's all you can do. The rest is just perseverance, knowing he's loved by many, and some help from the J federation (like the NHK spot if Dai doesn't want it, pretty please?).

Ohhh... a Chinese judge? Those 4's are just unbelievable!:palmf: I wonder if it's because he doesn't have his jumping prowess back yet.

In any case, is there a video of the FS yet? :hap10:

Well done, Sota! 141 points of his free skate!

I LOVED the program! His jumps were mostly good, too!

Yaaaaaay! :yahoo:

ETA: OMG did Sota just win Asia Open? :eeking:

Yesss! Sota just won!! I am crying [emoji24][emoji24][emoji24] I am so proud of him.

I just woke up to check results, hoping that Sota might have climbed up in the standings... and he WON!

Haven't seen the FP yet, but I heard he landed a clean 3A. :yahoo:

Ahaha, exactly what I did and felt yesterday. Sans the waking up that is, as it was afternoon for me. I couldn't believe it, but super happy for him. I hope his PCS start going up now (not that they shouldn't have been much higher before).

I was very lucky to be at Asian Open and I saw Sota live! I'm so happy and so proud of him! It's been a rough couple of years, and I hope this win helps boost his confidence. Have a great season ahead, Sota! :luv17:

You lucky girl you! :drama: I'm so jealous. :hopelessness: Did you get to take pictures?

I know, it was so lucky! He is very polite and nice in person..I think he was tense during most of the comp so we just greeted him and said good luck. I didn't get to take a photo with him but, I do have video of his podium moment: https://twitter.com/glassesnpillows/status/1026103819568959488
It was my first time to go to a skating competition and we were lucky to be sitting beside the area for the skaters so I even got to give my gift to him (I was too shy to ask for a photo)! :)

Here is Sota before the medal ceremony: https://twitter.com/tomao_jomz/status/1026139830235746306 (he was much more smiley after the comp)

I really hope for good things for him this season! Go Sota!

Thanks for the link! Some really good stuff you have there (I like your words about Denis, and wow, Koshiro looks so tall and thin in that RT!). Ohh, how can one download that RT portrait photo from the medal ceremony you have there, where Sota makes that hilarious face?! :drama:
Sota definitely seems super-polite, and from the photos I've seen so far from his career, he seems to really like presents  And banners. At Heroes and Future, he specifically bowed to a fan sitting by the skater exit as he passed by (she was brandishing a huge Sota banner and even standing up so he could see her). Aww. Oh wait - does he speak English, or did you wish him good luck in Japanese? This is important for an international Sota fan to know. :)

Glad you had so much fun at your first competition. If I may give a piece of advice, if you ever see Sota live again, don't hesitate to ask for a photo. I made the exact same mistake as you last year - I was too shy to call out to Keiji at Nepela Trophy, and have regretted it since.
