Stars On Ice 2018 Tour - US

Seemed like the audience was pretty into it. That's always nice to see!

I can´t believe that people really pay to see this :disapp:

Oh my god, I was thinking the same thing. I don't even watch galas and would never pay to see an ice show (whereas I'd pay to see a competition.) But I am very glad that the skaters have these opportunities to make some money since we all know figure skaters rarely gets big endorsements.

Oh my god, I can't believe the people who are dissing SOI for being a show. It's not "either or". When you go to a comp, you're getting a comp. That's great, and I loved the summer comp I went to last year. And it was free, although I would have paid;)

But if the only "live skating" that comes within driving distance is a show, then you go to a show. And you take it for what it is, and you enjoy actually seeing skaters in person.

And if the only opportunity I ever had to see skating in person was a show, or to see my favorite skater was a show, I would grab it with both hands (and have), rather than sit home and watch a comp on TV.

YMMV.

:agree: I am glad there are fans that think like this. :thank:

For me, the pressure, tension, and nail-biting atmosphere of competition is the most fun. But, a favorite is a favorite, and I enjoy seeing my top favorites in any scenario at all. To each their own -- I know you will have a wonderful time seeing Jason! Enjoy!...SOI will be in my area April 29, and I would probably go to see it except that I will be out of town that weekend.

I just watched the guys number and I thought it was fun.....I don't expect perfection when I know that these skaters are individual performers who are getting together to have a good time. If I want perfection, I'll watch a Synchro event.

Even though by a few more show runs that number should be perfection. They have done it many times with a group of men from all disciplines just like this and can do it again.

Hi el henry, I think it is absolutely ok that you like and watch ice shows. I don't care for them - is it wrong to say that? Must we all think like one?

No, we don't all have to think alike. That's one of the thrills of being a skating fan. This happens every season and I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's just passion for our favorites, don't let it bother you.

If you don't like ice shows, what are you doing posting in this thread?

Anyway, I'm not the biggest fan of the group choreography as it seems a bit half-done and there's a lack of real coordination going on compared to group numbers in the past (like 4 years ago), but I very rarely get to see skating live and I think seeing some of country's best skaters do two solo numbers is worth the price. I mean tickets were as low as like $25 where I'm at and went up to $85 at the most (not counting Ticketmaster fees), so it's a good price.

I'm not el henry but there's a big difference between saying you don't like ice shows to saying I can't believe people really pay to see this which was the original statement by Chapis. The first one is a personal preference and the other is a negative judgement on anyone who does pay to see the show.

I also think it's one thing to watch the show or see clips and critique things based on your observation and taste, but it's another to go into a thread dedicated to an ice show just to say you don't like ice shows and make critiques about it. I do think the I can't believe pay money to see it is also pretty harsh considering people here have paid money to see it.

Looking to see if any links of Ashley's La La Land have been posted because I am really interested in that program and she only performed it once in competition. And the only video of it that we have has Tara Lipinski talking over the beginning of it.

I don't believe people will spend time or money on many things. But if it makes them happy, I'm not judging, just saying it's not my cup of tea.

I think it's an interesting dynamic...someone who doesn't like ice shows, would never pay to see it, and posted in support to someone making a judgment on those who paid money to see it, is relying on those who may enjoy ice shows and/or paid money to see it to post a free video of a performance from the ice show that may have been the reason why people paid money to see the show live in the first place.

Isn't internet amazing.

Hmm, looks like someone's disparaging remark was removed. This group pic with Scott Hamilton from ShibSibs Instagram looks really nice.
The outfits look classy and elegant, not gaudy at all.

They look great. You also need to remember that some skating fans, including myself, have never seen those costumes before as I haven't been to Star On Ice in years. To me, as long as the skating is good, they could be in sweats and I wouldn't care.

Hi pearly, no we don’t have to think alike. Of course I like competitions and if Skate America or Nats were within a three hour drive of me, I’d be there with bells on. If they were in the same arena where “my” SOI will be, I’d throw a party for everyone on GS and we could all (take a very long) walk to the arena

But they’re not, and I’m not, and my very first opportunity to see Jason live will be at SOI. You bet your sweet bippy I’m spending $$$$ on it. Not to mention the other skaters are icing on the cake.

As @Katmari said, there’s a difference between “I’d never go see it” and “I can’t believe you want to go see it”. So as long as no ones judging me, I’m good:agree:

I attended SOI in Orlando last night, and was with the two clubs that were allowed to watch the pre-show practice. It was SO fun and the skaters were engaging and seemed to enjoy that there were excited attentive fans there.
The show itself was wonderful. Seeing the numbers live is just something I can't even comprehend. I cried when the Shibs skated their Fix You free dance. The little kids next to and behind me giggled the whole song because they didn't realize that the first lines of fix you were "When you try your best but you don't succeed". I had a raging headache not related to the show (not sure what triggered it) so I was already trying to ignore that and wish the mother of the kids had told them to stop loudly giggling and quiet up. But it was still enjoyable.

I sent back some custom illustration work to a few of the skaters who I follow, and Ashley posted the one I made her on her Instagram stories. :D

Overall a fantastic show, and I highly recommend attending if you get the chance.
