What happened with the spin in the LP is this:

the change foot sit spin (right before the step seq) was counted as combo spin, instead of a one position change foot spin so the other combo spin that she had planned in her program was not counted.
It was not about not performing a low enough sit spin (otherwise it would have been a level 0)
These 3.5 points lost cost her the title.

I think the tech panel was really smart in keeping her scores as low as possible.

Low? She got positive GOEs for the first two jumping passes! I thought she would get -0.5 or anything like that, both jumps looked scratchy, there was no speed whatsoever out of the jumps, the 3-jump-combo looked so laboured... Both jumping passes got +0.4 GOE (though two judges gave -1).

And positive GOE on her spins? Where does that come from?

The +1.6 GOE on the spiral sequence? It was good and less wobbly than normal, but +2 by most of the judges?

Question is: did she really accidentally repeat a spin? Or was it a computer error, or did someone indentify the spin wrongly? If that is the case, she needs to become champion of course - she shouldn't have to pay for the mistake of the tech-controller / computer.

I still think Kostner's PCS are absolutely ridiculous. I mean she does have great skating skills, but I find her artistry lacking. Congrats to Lepisto for her first Euro title!!!

Laura Lepisto deserved the title, because she showed more than the other skaters. Plus she skated clean! She has terrific spins (better than Kostner), better artistry (she reminds Kwan) and her jumps were good.
On the other hand Kostner's jumps were tentative.

I would rather criticize the overall quality of Euro Ladies skating. Just remember the level of skating in 1999 and 2000, when the top5 skaters had all 5 triple jumps planned.
Even Katarina Witt could win this Euros (with two 3T, two 3S, a 3F and a 3L) with more spin, steps and spiral training (in the 80s there was no need to have difficult spins)

That is a bad judging call and a bad results.

What more did she have ? NOTHING at all ! Her program isn't even on par with good juniors. Come on, she shouldn't even be on the podium.
The russian girl on the other hand should be.

Lepisto wins with three triples. Three of the simplest mind you. What a great champion ....

People seem to be a bit upset that Kostner didn't win? Honestly, I thought she was held up last year to win the title. This year she had a really bad SP (I didn't see it, but that was a really low score) and I thought her FS score was surprisingly high. For a moment I thought she would win the title with two skates that left a lot to be desired. Laura didn't do her absolute best, but there was a good spark (probably due to the enormous support from the arena) and her landings looked more secure than Carolina's and her spins were faster. I think Carolina will probably do better than Laura at Worlds (because she does have more difficult jumps); but that's okay; it's a good wake-up call for Carolina, and it's all in her hands right now to peek in March.

Nice to see the skater from turkey make top 10. Leonova was the only free skate that really was her best i think.

Unfortunately Leonova had a level1 layback with -GOE, a level2 flying sit with 0 GOE, a level2 step sequence with 0 GOE, level4 spirals, but with no GOE and a combo spin with slight +GOE.
She has to improve in spins, spirals and steps to be competitive. And obviously also in the PC scores.

I'm not a fan of Kostner by any means, but that has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard (if that's indeed what happened) and I think the ISU needs to take a real serious look at what's going on with a system that generates results like this (not for the first time either).

The last time I checked the skater was allowed up to 2 revolutions in upright position when finishing the spin (and I saw many skaters finishing their sit spins and doing an additional revolution or 1,5 while in upright position). Maybe Caro did half revolution _too much_, in which case - tough luck, but IMHO there's a reason why a sit spin is called a sit spin, and the 2 allowed revolutions should be more than enough to exit the spin.

Under 6.0 (which I've never been a big fan of, to say the truth) the results would probably be the same - or Caro would place even lower. The penalty for missing required elements were way higher under 6.0, and coming back after placing low in the SP - virtually impossible.

It is indeed an extra half revolution the tech panel explanation. Though i looked again my recording and it looks fine to me. Can someone else not partial say something? And i mean not biased neither pro caro nor Laura.
In any case would this be the first case this rule is applied?

WOW, I´m very happy for the medals Finland won!!! Two medals was the goal, so it got done. I have understood that this means that Lepisto and Poykio will be the skaters to be sent to Worlds. If Poykio had not medalled, she would have had to compete against Korpi at Nordics for the place at Worlds.

I was watching the competition live, and Caro stayed in the upright spin much longer than just for half a revolution... I think it was like 3 revolutions or so. Unfortunately... It looked like she was so early in the music that she decided to spend the time in the spin, which was a stupid mistake.. It's so bad that that sort of mistake cost her the title, but on the other hand Laura was very clean and consistent!

Congrats to the top 3, everyone of them was very good!
