State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

Is there a way to watch the Russians Nationals, I don't live in Russia. I've been watching the season on Ice Network but they don't cover Russian Nationals, which is a shame because the Russian skaters are the best.

I didn't understand this. You think Yulia will be sent to Worlds, unless Anna does well at Nationals. Is this what you mean?

IDK if this was posted elsewhere but over at FS the word is Adelina is officially out of Russian nationals. At this point I really hope she just takes the rest of the season off and rests.
I've been wondering whether or not burn-out was going to be an issue for Liza T this season. She's competed 7 times already; the average skater competes maybe about 6 times all season long (2 GPs, Final, nationals, 4CC or Euros, worlds). She's still got a long way to go but momentum is on her side. If she has issues though, I'm sure Elena will be right there to sneak in for the title.
The ladies' event at Russian nationals is going to be more exciting than worlds this year...:dance:

Well...to be fair Sotnikova did compete in a Russian Cup event.
She did skate relatively well there, doing a 3/3 and not falling in either program.

Well good news is she is practicing again(that's what it says on the post), hopefully she can still get some form of competition in and get sent to Worlds. I don't agree she should just take the season off. But that's just my opinion, I mean it seems she's been off already since she won the Olympics.
She's in her prime right now, 18 years old, not 14 or 15, she doesn't have time to waste either, I think she should be trying to be one of the best figure skaters ever, but maybe the Olympic gold is enough for her, I don't know. I think if she's feels healthy enough, she should at least try to compete this year. But That's just my opinion, she'll do what is best for her.
Euros / 4CC does count for standings points if the skater does not go to Olympics / Worlds.
The US often sends singles skaters other than the medalists to 4CC so that they can get World Standings points. Since all 4CC countries get to send 3 skaters, it's an opportunity for a third Canadian lady to get points as well.

I'm not too worried about Adelina right now. She might have a chance to go to Worlds. But I dont think she'll go to Euros. It would be better imo if she skips this season altogether and be fully recovered and competitive for next season. Its not the end of her competitive career if she skips this season, it would actually be better if she rests and avoid further serious injury.
As for who'll go to Euros/Worlds, I think it'll all depend on nationals. I love Yulia but she needs to be consistent enough on her LP to go to Euros and Worlds. Same for Anna. But I think Elena and Liza are locks for Euros at least. I'd love to see all four go to Worlds even though thats impossible. I'm just really excited for nationals next week, it will really be an exciting compeition!

Well, she is the Olympic Champion, and she can do B Competitions.
Same thing for Bobrova&Soloviev. Although they might be ready for Euros.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't Russian Ice Dancing Teams a little thin, right now? If so, it's really different to send a good team who has been out all season with an injury when your Team is thin, but in a highly competitive field where the "worse" finishers of the field who could go to Euros/Worlds have 1 off the podium finish each this season.

That's a different issue. The question was how would Adelina go to Worlds if she hasn't competed yet. What I'm saying is that she can go. She can partecipate in B competitions and she is the Olympic Champion. The Fed can choose which one to send there. Obviously the first and second place from russian nationals will be in the team. Unless Leonova wins it and in that case I'm not sure.

I think Adelina still has a chance, given that she's the reigning Olympic Champion. Yes perhaps the Russian Fed will have to see how she does in several B competitions.
If Leonova does well at Nationals, I hope she gets to go to Euros and/or Worlds. And I love Julia but if Leonova does better than her at Nationals, I hope the Russian Fed will still send Leonova to Euros, and maybe Julia to Worlds? I still have no idea how Russian skaters are selected for international competitions. Seems to be a less transparent process than say, Japanese Nationals.
Not keen on Leonova... she has been to Worlds and Euros 10 times and has came away with only one medal... a World silver after getting 7th at Euros. She has had plenty of (lost) opportunities. She's been no more consistent than Yulia/Anna this season. A clean Leonova will not beat a clean Wagner or Gold while a clean Pogorilaya will be about tied and a clean Yuila would be ahead. Medal wise, there is zero point in sending her to either Euros or Worlds.
I hope Sotnikova skips the season.... tbh, I do not like when skaters miss the grand prix and go on to the world championships... even if there's an "injury".

You are right, but I sorenkay made the point. A clean Leonova will not beat a clean Wagner or Gold while a clean Pogorilaya will be about tied and a clean Yulia would be ahead.
However, if Yulia continue to have problems with the LP, I doubt they are going to send her anywhere.
Russian fed selection is not like the Japanese, it's more like the USA If I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, they can choose the skaters for the Rus Team. Obviously the 1st and 2nd place at Nationals will go for sure, but I have no idea how they may divide the girls for Euros and Worlds.
