State of Russian Ladies in skating: 2014-15 Season

Gah, that's an awfully crowded field... wonder where I'll get to see Maria Stavitskaia next? :drama:

I really wish Tukt could show more class than this:

Seriously? Yeah, you had a great season, but wow, humble much? I am not hating or anything, she is a brilliant skate, but wow, take some lessons on class, or something.

Edit: To clarify, I really admire her and love her as a skater, she shows incredible amounts of perseverance and seems like a genuinely friendly person, I just wish she would have some modesty since she has yet to win an Olympics or a second World title, especially with *cough* Mao on the horizon.

Liza is my least favorite Russian lady... but if you follow that instagram link it says it's for a magazine cover... i.e. she didn't set this up herself and is almost certainly being paid.

What is your problem with that?
I think there is nothing wrong with these pictures as long as she doesn't comment on other skaters like some others:rolleye:

It looks like its not her personal pics, but rather a marketing thingy, or some magazine stuff that she was paid/asked to do.
TBH, watching Tuks and the way she talks about her skating in the interviews, i highly doubt she would chose an outfit like that for some personal pics.

Wow, a nasty personal attack over just a photoshoot. Congrats, you've just scraped the very bottom of the barrel. And your
"edit" is hilarious: "oh I really do like her, I just think she is classless and lacks modesty". Get over yourself.

Wow, the stuff that pops up on this forum... Some truly, ah, fascinating thought processes.

Russia having a separate junior nationals for JW selection makes it that much simpler for girls to compete on the senior GP during the fall and then still get a chance to compete to make/at Junior Worlds. Due to this, Sima staying in juniors doesn't make sense and if Sotskova wants to go senior too then she should be able to...is the Russian Fed really so attached to the saving GP spots for the likes of Artemieva and Gosviani? There's enough space for 9 girls to each get 2 assignments, of these only 3 have even secured 2 assignments each with certainty:

1.) Tuktamysheva
2.) Radionova
3.) Sotnikova (as a comeback skater)

Among the rest, the following ladies have only secured themselves 1 assignment with certainty, but are likely to get 2:

4.) Medvedeva
5.) Pogorilaya
6.) Lipnitskaya
7.) Leonova

So even if ladies 4-7 each get 2 assignments (it is likely) that still leaves room for Sakhanovich AND Sotskova to both move to seniors and get 2 assignments each if Russia maxes out its spots (which it probably should, given Cesario's retirement and Gao's likely retirement/absence from the GP circuit, Carolina not returning, Vicki Helgesson's retirement, etc). Further, only 5 US ladies (excluding Cesario) are in the top 24 SB list while 8 Russian ladies are (7 of them in the top 10!) and only 4 US ladies are in the top 24 World Standings list compared to Russia's 7 ladies.

Point is, the statistics and competitive results show the reality, and both Sakhanovich and Sotskova are more deserving of getting senior GP assignments than the likes of Miller, Nagasu, and Chen from the US who competed internationally multiple times the past season and didn't score as high or place as well at competitions as Sima or Mariya, and yet there's a good possibility that all 3 of those American ladies will each get 2 senior GP assignments while Sima and Mariya are stuck in juniors...

Also Sakhanovich and Sotskova have one 1 secured assignment if they move to seniors

Even if it was personal pics, why can't she dress herself up when she wants to? I've never really done anything substantial and have never been the "best" at anything among my peers but I can dress up as a queen if I want to and post it to social media. She's 18, if she wants to show some skin and wear a sexy dress, that's her business, she's not hurting anyone

This is really interesting, thanks for breaking it down. I still wonder about Sotskova though, this upcoming season would be her best bet at getting a Junior Worlds medal before Nugumanova and Gubanova are in the mix but if she stays back a year then going senior the season after she might not be guaranteed 2 GP assignments... hmmm hard choice

I don't see the big deal about the pics. It's a photo shoot and she likely had very little to do with how they decided to dress her. The vibe that I get from reading her interviews (when so someone is kind enough to translate or Google does it) she comes off to me as very humble and certainly not a I'm the Queen type. In fact, she has said her friends are more excited about her wins than she. As for having her having not won an Olympics, I am more impressed by Liza's achievements than some people who have won an Olympics because she put together a consistent phenomenal year and did not just get lucky at one competition. I don't think she was being diva.

Liza's photoshoot is gorgeous, a perfect way to sum up her flawless season! Long live the QUEEN indeed.

I think the people who need to take some lessons on class are the ones who judge people personally based on some photos that a person has every right to take.

Quite hilarious. I know you're upset that Liza's 3A is better than Mao's (and we won't talk about the Lutz), but really?

It's obviously for a photoshoot. Anyone who can't see that is...well...

It's nice to see the true QUEEN getting some nice pictures done. :)

If you're easily offended by what Liza does and says, don't go to Lazukin's instagram. You won't be able to handle all the shocking language and imagery  But that's Liza, she really doesn't care what people think about her. Or maybe she didn't care about that a few years ago and now she just doesn't know how to delete those old comments and posts

dear Karne... Miss Ice is Yuna's fan, not Mao. Hence the queen reference...:p

It's a beautiful photoshoot in deed. I can't understand how people nitpick Liza for posing for a magazine cover? She is getting paid for it. What's wrong? She's the current queen.

And yup, right now she is the Queen =P
And hopefully will be for like next 10 years

I don't think there is anything wrong with Liza's photoshoot, except that the queen reference is not strong enough: her shoes are a kind of modern platform, and the wallpaper in the background is not reminiscent of a royal interior setting.
