I think calling Gracie depressed is jumping the gun a but. She had a late start after a slow summer. She's rapidly getting up to speed and should be fine by nationals. She has made it clear her training just wasn't there ar Skate America.

Pretty sure Gracie has used the word depressed more than once to describe how she was feeling.
True StitchMonkey, but I think the point that KatGrace1925 is making is that everyone is (surprise!) completely writing her off because of her subpar performance at Skate America. It seems like people are blaming her lackluster showing on her state of depression rather than her lack of preparation, and I think her problems were the opposite. I also have a theory that she probably wanted to withdraw from Skate America because of her lack of preparation, but she probably couldn't due to USFS's pressure, and the fact that they plastered her picture all over their advertisements for the event.

No, I haven't forgot about Japan Open, but that's not the point of my post. She was not ready to compete at Japan Open. She was not ready to compete by Skate America. She was not at her best because she was not ready for either. Its pretty straightforward.

Exactly, and she admitted to us all that she was not prepared or well trained due to her summer activities. She made a conscious choice to start her training late and she will hopefully deliver at Nationals. Polina is a huge question mark at this point and other than Ashley and Mariah Bell, there is no clear US# 3. That's why this weekend is such a big deal when it comes to Gracie. BTW, I'm excited to see Nathan go against Adam. Though I don't expect either of them to finish above Bronze, it will be a good indicator heading into Nationals.

Do you think Mariah is the clear #2? She skated well at SA but that was only one event.

Well, at this point, yes. I certainly have her ahead of Courtney and Gracie and they're the only US ladies that I've seen. Other than Ashley, who I still have believe is the #1 Lady in the US.

For me, until one of these other women beats Gracie when she's in top form, she's still #2. At Nationals and Worlds, she has only lost to Ashley in her senior career.

Well, as they "And therein lies the rub" With the exception of Med and possibly Miss Osmond. I don't think any skater can beat a perfect skate from Gracie. The problem is, those clean skates from Gracie are becoming few and far between. When was the last time we saw 2 solid programs in the same event from Gracie. Nationals was a great, but not perfect performance from Gracie. At this point, I just want Gracie to skate well for herself. IMO, what she needs is confidence, the rest will take care of itself.

She stated in an interview I watched that she was down, but not quite depressed. She also stated she was over that period in her life and feeling so much better. She then used terms people didn't understand to explain she was not prepared for Skate America due to a late start.

Even imperfect with a couple small mistakes the USFS will send her to worlds, she is scorred well on an international stage. She is also considered a very complete skater, with a high technical ability. Unless it's a complete implosion at nationals she'll be on the podium and headed to worlds. Even with an implosion, all she needs to to is give the USFS a reason to believe she'll be ready by worlds, they've proven loyal to their top skaters over and over again.

This comment is very true. However, I think Gracie needs a perfect skate for herself and for her confidence. Hopefully, she doesn't read these boards but, commentators have big mouths and so does Christine Brennen. Gracie has to know that there are several people who doubt she'll make the world team and I think that must be very difficult for her to deal with. I can't think of a time when she hasn't been considered at the very least, the most talented skater in the US. Even if she may not be the best competitor.
I think that sentence is very true. I think Gracie needs some more seniors Bs to get her confidence back up and get rid of some competition nerves. She's always been a little inconsistent in competition but with all the attention on her performances/physique/comments, she's probably even more nervous to compete. Her fans on Instagram seem very supportive so I hope she only sees those comments.

Well I could make the snippy comment - we all would like to forget. I think we all know she has potential - real potential and we have seen it at various times. It would be boring and presumptuous if people were robots and could give perfect performances all the time. Sadly politics, sponsors, skating feds, family, coaches, choreographers whatever all have roles. There are only so many spots and so many medals. But let's not give up and cheer her and her competitors on. I wish we had a medal for them all. pretty courageous to put themselves out there - especially with the vultures lol on this site. Seriously wish her the best.

I think Gracie if she skated cleanly would win - seven triples over anyone. The judges love her and will reward her well with GOES and pcs. The only skater who could beat her on their best day if all were clean imho is Carolina - but she really hasa never shown she could land everything ie 3 3 and everything else and Mao but she hasn't skated cleanly in a while and she would need the triple axel. She is missing too many other triples. Med, Pogo, Rad, Lip, Sotnikova, Maria S, Mi yhara all have too many weaknesses. I assume you are talking about Kaetlyn Osmond - I am afraid of getting pummelled here - but for some reason I really think this skater is the real deal. She loves skating, performing and really has huge tricks. I still think injuries are an issue and learning the triple loop is a challenge plus she continues to work on her spins. But if she skated cleanly and judges could see her choreo and all she deserves a shot -what is it about the Canadian ladies - Manley, Chouinard, Rochette and now Osmond issues with nerves, consistency, but huge jumps and wonderful personalities and somehow underrated especially their programs - I watched some of Joannie's really intricate wonderful programs compared to even the Great mao and yuna.

Clear #2 is Gracie - though she will need to medal in France in order stay the clear #2. If she fails to medal, I'd say she would move to "holding onto shaky #2" position.
In the running for #3: Mariah, Courtney, Mirai, Polina. It's a real shame Mariah only has one GP shot. Another good outing internationally could move her into the "favorite for #3" position. USFS should send her to Zagreb.
