And thoughts: Gold has a good chance at repeating but she MUST overcome the "defending a title" pressure and come through...Wagner needs all the luck in the world if she wants to reach her goals (but good for her for setting them)...and Edmunds should not feel bad about her struggles because she is not the only one this season dealing with similar setbacks.

I don't think Ashley's goals are unrealistic. Gracie isn't exactly the most consistent skater, especially under pressure. I also don't think it is outside the realm of possibilities that Ashley could beat one Russian at Worlds like Anna or Adelina.

I agree to disagree. There is a lot Courtney could do – starting with firing her dressmaker! Her lp’s dress is a disaster it accentuates all her weak areas and a wrong colour too, she should avoid white at all costs, besides it is wrong for Anna Karenina anyway (in my opinion) No time really to change anything before Nationals but I would just dye that dress black – she would look so much slimmer straight away. Anna Ovcharova is of very similar built to Courtney and it was amazing to see a transformation from some peasant girl (SP) into a chic parisienne (LP) all by way of one LBD (little black dress) of the right length, broad shoulders covered and cleverly so in lace, high waist line, a slimming V cut on the back and what a difference it made!

Courtney needs to find the person who was making Sasha Cohen's dresses. That person was very good at hiding her body flaws.

The bigger point is this: she'll need more than just her absolute best skating to get where she wants to go.
And Wagner isn't exactly "the rock" herself, anyhow...even she seems to acknowledge that.

Of course, none of the American women are consistent. I like Ashley's chances mostly because I think Gracie will have trouble defending her title, as she hasn't yet shown that she can thrive under pressure situations consistently.
And Courtneys's makeup is awful. She needs to tone it done a few shades.
I'm sure Ashley thought the same back in 2013 when she defended her title for the first time. She was told that the first time defending your title was awful and she found out the hard way how bad it was. Gracie better be prepared for more pressure then she's ever faced.

Maybe she is just that confident that she can win. After all, she is the reigning US champion, an Olympian and she already has an international win.

While she had an excellent SP at NHK, her LP certainly won't cut it if Ashley brings her A-game. But you have to go into these things with confidence and skate your best instead of feeling like everyone is gunning for you. It's not a position that I envy.

I remember an old article from Icenetwork, they described Gracie as someone full of confidence, so she may be really relaxed.

Gracie had a sore foot at NHK and couldn't do her 3/3 in the FS, but she won nevertheless. The key event is the SP: if Gracie nails her SP, she can build up a tremendous lead just as she did at NHK and it won't matter if she has a mistake in the FS. It isn't as if Ashley is always superclean herself: she is a chronic underrotater and doublefooter. and historically the SP has been her nemesis. She cannot afford to fall way behind in the SP and hope to make up the difference in the FS. That worked out in a 6-competitor GPF, but won't in a 20+ competitor US championship field.
^ yeah, pretty much. That's what I'm getting at - Gold does NOT need to be perfect to win. She can probably win even with a couple of falls. Hell, Wagner did it in 2013...and if Wagner can, anyone can!
Having said that, though, Gold's mistakes tend not to necessarily be falls, but more often doubles or pops. THOSE will hurt her. In that case, she does need to be careful.
