Oh for god sake, it's her current jumps that she needs to concentrate on. This girl's priorities seems to be not on the right place in my opinion. :bang::bang::bang:

Her double axel is really good. Why not try to see if she can do the triple? And for now, she's just practicing it.

They (or more like her coach) are talking as if they're targeting it for the next season. Lord knows we don't need another triple for Mirai to under rotate. And what worries me is if she tries to attempt that jump, whether it's going to bring the rest of her program down, as if they haven't been down enough (be it by fatigue midway through or the possibility of her collapsing entirely if she fails on it as a lead up. What I'm trying to say in a nutshell is I don't have as much confidence on her doing it as I have on tuktamysheva who seems to have worked out and solidified the rest of her jumps this season before contemplating on tackling the mighty triple axel.

I so agree with warwick. 3As and quads are for skaters who have fully mastered their other triples---that means they and can fully rotate and land them. Chances are if Mirai attempts her 'triple' axel it will be UR anyway, and it will probably disrupt the rest of her program, a lose-lose proposition. What Mirai really needs is a serious jump coach to fix her UR problem. She doesn't need to leave Tom Z to get help from an additional source.

What Mirai needs to focus on after mastering her triples is expression instead of the 3A tbh, her exhibition programs are expressive but she's usually quite stone faced during her competitive programs and it bores me a lot. And I'm saying this as someone who's a fan of her.

Glad to hear that Sammi is having a good experience with her new skates/blades. So often we hear of skaters having boot problems, so I'm excited to see her improvements.

I agree that Mirai needs to fix her other jumps before adding a 3A to her repertoire. Hope her new layout works better for her, point wise.

Next weekend can't get here fast enough!

She's been working on it:) she has a beautiful double. Glad to hear she is fit and ready. Wishing her all the best!

I guess that means Mirai is sticking around. ONe wonders though it is a different jump if she is constantly underrotating triples already how is it logical she will land another half revolution on top of the triple evne if a double axel is solid?

Not sure. I think it's something she messes around with after practice. I interested to see what her new jump layout is.

3A in both programs will help her a very long way though. Her +3T combos are almost always underrated like Wagner and Asada. With a 3a she can afford to not do them, a la Asada. Her loop and salchow are actually alright most times, this season anyway, so this opens up for her to repeat those jumps instead of the flip, which she also almost always underrotates.

I hope Mirai changes her lp layout for national's. Her currently layout isn't working. 3f2t 3lo2aseq 3lz 3s2t2lo 3lo 3s 2a should even score a little better. It's more important for her to turn out a scoresheet without a UR mark than anything else. I don't get this obsession with triple triples when you are getting consistent UR mark. It's as if Carolina's success last quad inspired no one.

Who knows... we can't judge Mirai's strategy until we see how she does with 3A in competition. Maybe 3A is easier for her than 3-3.

Mao did '3A without 3-3' strategy for a while. But Mao's been doing 3As since she was a little girl. I dunno if Mirai's will be that good... (and if Liza brings 3A, I doubt the inevitable comparison will work in Mirai's favour).

Every skater needs to have fun. Every skater needs do some things on ice just for enjoyment. Mirai has said she *likes* training the 3A. Give her something she enjoys and can motivate her and that she can do for love and passion of the sport, not just for competition prep. To me her training the 3A is a form of mentally training to keep her love of the sport and I think that is a good thing.

Richard Dornbush loves backflips, when asked at his Social Scene interview last year what he does for fun, he said "backflips with my friends". He can't do them in competition obviously, but he still trains them because he likes them. They are his thing or sorts. Hell, why can't Mirai train it for exhibitions for that matter? I am sure plenty of people would still enjoy seeing a lady to do an underroated, but attractive 3A in an exhibition.

It just seems everytime the 3A and Mirai is brought up people react as though if she is training it, she is not training anything else, or that she should only be grinding away at what her weaknesses are. There needs to be a balance, in the 3A keeps her happy when training the grindy stuff, it is serving a purpose.

I will close out with one more point I have made before. Do you think she would rather people talking about her being left of the Olympics, or do you think she would rather people talk about her 3A attempts? Who cares if it is under-roated, it is more than the other ladies and a better subject than last year. If nothing else it is a great distraction from last year's messiness. Frankly even catty comments about her 3A would be better than almost any comments about last year. By trying something no one else is, she is giving us all something different and better to talk about. Honestly I think it is a pretty good idea to come in with some obfuscation ammo.

Mooche Smooche Mirai...

May U B Miraibulous as Vamcouver,
Miraivolous as WC10 in Caribbeam,
UR B a Miraige, 3A B true Miraicle.
Hodge Podge dodgy judging no more,
Down with murkiest of federation politicks,
Sorrow be gone, Regrets no more...
Bye sad tears, off that upside down frawn,
Welcome sparkling teeth, brightly eyes, meritocraticly so.

Leave out all too nice polite Japanese American pie courtesy,
Down some Mirin, Fire up sum Wasabi spicey,
Memorize Kweendom memorandom,
Murmumr voodoo from Witt Karmen,
Stare down La Courtney, Polina, and Goldie with mean eyes,
Scampaer over lil Chen, Sam, Hannah, and Gao all mercilessly,
Even out mirror Diva Wagner with that :jaw: /  meme plenty.

El Miraiachi home ice famously,
Here's to your seconds, third, fourth,
....fifth, sixth....twelve chance to the worlds FINALLY!!

People may say I am crazy,
drunk on Miraigarita too many,
but these made in USA Miraijuna is sumfin, real potent fluff..
chill, spill, thrill, mega Miraithon saga epic worthy gud stuff..

I agree that if Nagasu wants to try it, let her try it (who are we to tell her she can't) - and also, people forget that Nagasu went to the 2010 Olympics and was ALREADY an Olympian. It's not like she was deprived of that "once in a lifetime" experience in '14 since she had it already. Of course, it doesn't make it any less painful for her, but in the end, if she needs a distraction so be it. Obviously she still likes skating or she would have quit already.

3A for Mirai?

What a strange strategy for a skater who has trouble rotating even the simplest of triple jumps. Now she wants to do the hardest

If she puts it at the beginning and fails will the rest of the program collapse? She isn't exactly the strongest skater mentally so if she misses the opening jump the rest could possibly get pretty ugly. She also has problems with her stamina in the second half of her programs. Is doing a 3A early on going to drain her of even more precious energy she needs for later on?

I am fascinated to see at how this will all turn out!

:agree:

Is there a tune that this poem can be sung to? ;)

Can't remember which tune I sang last time MM :p, but it was really good... especially after plenty of Miraigarita and other 'stuff'!

(apologies for ruin the flow on the discussion on 3A.... but seriously 3A???!!!! :drama: Liza, Mirai, Who next?)

She doesn't have any trouble rotating a double axel. With a different coach to help her, she can learn the correct technique from the start. I say, go for it!
