Ikr!
To be honest the only thing I found sliiightly missing from it is that they usually weave some sort of small narrative in with their FS (i.e. Romeo and Juliet, Odette being taken over by the back swan, a kind of tragic fantasy theme of two lovers with Violin Muse, and the general story of JCS). Even though I got the impression of Dracula and Nina I just felt it needed a little more? I understand trying to include that along with the large amounts of mandatory elements and preperation time for them must be incredibly difficult...
I still love our beautiful skaters V + T, but Aceiel, you really have a point here. Both V and T skated pretty well, but I was disappointed in the programs – especially the long program. So many of the patterns over the ice are just as they always are… Jumps, throws, as per usual, nothing newly conceived or constructed in a unique way. Maybe figure skating – especially pairs skating -- is more limited than I realized.
The jumps and lifts require a certain approach to be executed properly and safely, so I guess I have to accept that the approaches will ALWAYS be the same. (which is a point you are making). But what about some new ideas between the basic elements? The music is so beautiful and lends so much opportunity for an exciting denouement, but I don’t see that the choreography relates to the music at all. (Only toward the end there was one section that really worked.) There is no synthesis, no real story-telling (which is what V + T are so good at). Is it only an Olympic year when choreographers are inspired to do their greatest work -- to find depth and complexity in their programs? V+T can do anything – why are they given so little to do? Sigh. Still I’m glad to see them on the ice again. It’s been much too long.
The ending of the long program was different when I saw it last year in training. They had Max bite Tanya’s neck and she then collapses to his feet. That ending was rather cliché but this ending seems a bit muddled. (And it would be good if each of them could “ring the bell” at the right moments!) But as many of you say, maybe they are still working out the kinks in the program and it will improve as they polish the rough spots.

I think that this is incredibly false. What do you all think? Will V&T medal? What place? I personally think that they have all capabilities of winning another world title. Here's a link to the article in case any of you are interested in taking a look:
