Tatsuki Machida | Page 43 | Golden Skate

Tatsuki Machida

I hope so too!!!!! I hope he continues what Machida has started this season.

Is there any reaction pic from the wonderboy Olympic champ himself?? lol

Yuzuru was admitted into the hospital and did not attend the announcement ceremony..

When I heard about this I was shocked and sad. I really wish he could have gone to worlds next year for one last skate  But even though the decision was partially financially motivated I think finishing school and going to grad school is a good thing for him. Honestly he doesn't seem like the type who would be able to do variety shows and commentary like other retired skaters. So I'm happy for him, I want him to be successful in whatever he chooses to do in the future.

I never a huge fan of him but I fell big lost right now.
Also Yuzuru as a his good friend/teammate/rival and all his teammates would be feeling sad more than us here.
Thanks Tatsuki for your great career. Wishing him all the best .I hope to see him as a unique choreographer or a great coach in the near future.
I trust he will succeed in any field. He is the one who will be so much missed.

He's one of the skater who skate artistically and treasure every details of the program. How to deal with this heartbreak? So many rising stars in Japan now but no one could ever replace this guy. :((

I really doubt he's going to come back. He said he's done with figure skating.

Anyway - I saw practice pics from Medalist On Ice and he will skate to East Of Eden. Although he's been skating to this program in galas all season, he could only end his career with the program that will no doubt remain in many skating fans' memories.

Maybe he will do a Plushenko. How many times did he comeback? ;)

When Plushy came back he did: one team gold in Sochi, one silver in Vancouver( many people think he sould have won) two European champions titles, 3 Rus Nat champion titles and one time silver medalist... I wish Tatsuki such results as Plushy's if he will come back ;)

i don't know what to feel. Right when I start feeling his Sym 9 LP at GPF (as I have stated) that the program is more cohesive vehicle... oh dear Tatsuki please come back whenever you feel comfortable.

Tatsuki's sudden retirement was shocking. What a huge loss for Japan, and for the sport in general. Not just his skating, but his unique personality.

In 2013 I made the trip to the US, for Skate America. I basically went to see Daisuke Takahashi and Mao Asada - I'd never seen either in competition, and 2013 SA was my last chance before their "probable" post-Olympic retirements.

Takahashi was not on form. Asada was divine. Jason Brown was a star.
Volosozhar/Trankov and Davis/White were awesome.

But what I remember the most from that competition... is Tatsuki Machida.
This was the competition where the "new" Machida exploded onto the scene.
What a priviledge to have been there.
He went on to prove himself as one of the top skaters in the world.

I saw him again at this year's Trophee Eric Bompard, and the GPF. They weren't perfect performances, but again - what a priviledge to have seen those EPIC and unique routines in person. And how precious those experiences become now, in the light of his retirement.

I wish him well, whatever path he chooses.

Tatsuki skating his swan song at the exhibition gala for the Japanese National Championship. East Of Eden + speech + bit of Je Te Veux
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSksarW8YLg&feature=youtu.be

Farewell, Tatsuki. May you find joy and success in the new life you're building. There will be no one like you in Japanese and even world figure skating.

Thank you Ionap for the link. Just came back from attending to some family obligations so missed the live stream of the gala.

Tatsuki's choices for his farewell exhibition brings back memories. "East of Eden" at last year's Skate America was the first program of Tatsuki that I saw, and I was simply blown away by his performance. I had no idea of who he was but immediately resolved to know him better. And the more I learned about him, the more I became a fan of this complex individual. He can be so reticent, anti-social even (once likened him to Garbo), but with things he is passionate about, he can be so loquacious. So diffident off ice, he is quite the diva on it. As for his self-choreographed "Je Te Veux," I remember the discussion in this thread of the dangers of his smoking while performing the program (for instance, what

if he fell). Later, a poster who has followed Tatsuki's career longer linked us to his program where he was brandishing a samurai sword and half baring his chest. I wonder who among the present crop of skaters can do that. Well, maybe Misha, but he doesn't have yet Tatsuki's technical prowess.

Tatsuki may not have the Olympic medal I so want for him nor become the national champion of his country (Simon Reed commented that in any country other than Japan he would have been the runaway winner), but to me he has left an indelible impression on the sport. Thank you Tatsuki for all the joy you have brought to us skating fans. With your singular passion and meticulousness, I have high hopes you will also leave your mark in the academe.

Yes, I believe I was the one who posted his Aranjuez EX program. Such fond, bittersweet memories now, because I also recall the enthusiasm we had when we talked about his next season and his future.

I had already cried twice yesterday, but watching his performance at the gala, I could not stop the tears from falling again. I'm very glad to have been a fan of him for almost as long as I have been a figure skating fan (which is, admittedly, not a very long time, but still) and to have seen his brilliance. I will not forget him; he skated in a way unmatched, with a style that was so different and unique. His genius was one that perhaps could not have been universally appreciated, but I hope that he knows what loss he has left behind him. He has inspired me with his drive and motivation, how he continued on past the low points and kept skating in his own way, never conforming. I wish him all the best for his future, that he may still inspire in this next chapter of his life.

I really find him so hot when he does these kinds of programs. He instantly becomes a different personality. What a chameleon!

Tatsuki, you retired a bona fide CHAMP! And I adore you just as much as I adore Mao! My 2 all time favorites!:)
