Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir

Yes, there are plenty of them! LOL

Will they compete at 4CC, anyone knows?

I suspect they will since its the Olympic test event, but I haven't heard anything. Since the 05-06 until their break, they competed there 6/9 times and one of the seasons they didn't they had to withdraw because of Tessa's 2nd surgery and the other two were Olympic seasons.

Yeah, I think a lot of skaters that usually skip 4CC might attend next year just because it'll be the Olympic test event. Can't hurt to get acquainted with the arena you'll be skating in at the Olympics, especially because it's brand new.

Also selfishly, I just want to see them perform their programs as much as possible...

Ice dancers rarely skip 4CC, except in Olympic years. And I remember them explicitly saying they were glad to attend 2012 GPF as it was the test event for Sochi. So I think it's very likely they'll go.
Plus I have no idea who could go instead of them since Canadian ice dance teams are an almost extinct species :drama:

considering the top 6 was all made of canadian and usa teams last year, and that at least one other country (korea) also had 3 teams, I think we can easily assume Canada has 3 spots... it does for worlds as well...

Yes, and I am not even sure that Canadians have three spots for 4CC. I don't know how it works in that competition, though. What placings do the two top teams have to get there in order to get three spots?

For Four Continents, all countries automatically get three spots in every discipline.

(Meaning all countries that geographically fall under the Four Continents umbrella.)

IMO, it would be more accurate to say that V/M competed at Four Continents seven out of nine times -- every year except the Olympic seasons of 2010 and 2014.
I would count 2011 as a year that they did compete at Four Continents. They won the 2011 SD .
They did not withdraw until they already had started competing their FD. They interrupted their program b/c Tessa was in pain; went to the boards to confer with MZ; and then Scott informed the referee of their withdrawal.
(Not counting 2011 would signify to me that they withdrew before the SD and/or did not even show up in Taipei -- neither of which was the case.)

Anyway, I am thrilled that Tessa and Scott won NHK as well as the GPF :dance2:.
Onward and upward :yay:.

Thank you both for explanations. So, if one of Virtue/Moir, Weaver/Poje and Gilles/Poirier would not go to Four Continents, another team could get that third spot. I guess it would depend on the placings at Nationals. Soucisse/Firus seem like the most likely candidates.

Even if all geographically-eligible countries get 3 spots at 4CC, the entrants still have to meet the minimum TES criteria. And it will be slightly harder this year to do that, as results in junior events will not count toward 4CC qualification.

Yes, of course.

The TES minimums for Four Continents this year are 19.00 SD and 29.00 FD.

Canadian couples who have met the minimums (at Senior comps), in addition to V/M, W/P, G/P:

- Arnold/Williams
- Linden/Voldeng
- Sales/Wamsteeker
- Soucisse/Firus

I believe other Canadian couples who had the minimums are no longer competing.

This was taken from a teleconference held today. No audio as of yet, but Lois Elfman was nice enough to share what was said through Twitter.

Next up, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir teleconference. #CTNSC17

Scott Moir says he and Tessa Virtue are pleased w/their season thus far. More lessons to be learned. Eager to match up w/Canadian talent.

Moir/Virtue excited to return to Canadian Championships and aren't taking lightly. #CTNSC17

Virtue says how neat they've been at this for so long and they still get to be students every single day. Gaining insight is exciting.

Virtue says they're working on a different style of skating. She and Moir are pushing themselves every single day. #CTNSC17

When Virtue and Moir competed at 2006 Canadian Championships in Ottawa, their now coaches were the champions. #CTNSC17

Moir said they looked up to Dubreuil and Lauzon in 2006 and still do now. #CTNSC17

"We've been welcomed back very graciously," said Tessa Virtue. #CTNSC17

One of the reasons they picked Dubreuil and Lauzon as their coaches is their vision. Trying to get more run of the blade. #CTNSC17

"All part of the magic of training," said Moir. #CTNSC17

Moir said he and Virtue felt pressure at their early competitions. Time off changes how you view things. #CTNSC17

"That's the fun of it." "It's exciting to go to a competition and have so much pressure." Scott Moir #CTNSC17

Virtue says there have been minor tweaks to the free dance. They've been working with an artistic coach from Cirque du Soleil. #CTNSC17

After concentration on technical elements early in the season, now they're working on the emotional elements they want to portray. #CTNSC17

As a young athlete, you don't necessarily understand everything, said Moir. The GP Final was really exciting and appreciated. #CTNSC17

"We want people feeling what we want to portray," says Virtue. Hoping it will continue to grow until Worlds. #CTNSC17

Pressure to make sure they stick to their plan. When they execute they expect to win. #CTNSC17

The difference in their new training locale is Dubreuil and Lauzon's philosophy. Also, off-ice support is excellent. Everyone integrated.

"Every time the Leafs are in town, we're not here," said Moir, much to his disappointment.

Both @tessavirtue and @ScottMoir are working on their French. #CTNSC17

Virtue says no awkwardness w/Weaver/Poje. Longtime friends. "We know they're going to deliver excellent performances in Ottawa." #CTNSC17

"This will be the 1st time we've come up against them since we retired....We haven't pushed them down." Scott Moir #CTNSC17

"We fully expect them to bring everything they have next week and we will do the same." said Moir #CTNSC17

If they qualify, @tessavirtue and @ScottMoir said they will go to Four Continents. #CTNSC17

Virtue says they're trying to amalgamate their old mindset w/what they learned in show skating. It's a work in progress. #CTNSC17

"We decided to be back in this position and embrace all that comes with competition," Virtue. #CTNSC17

All videos of their SD are now unavailable or muted on Youtube:curse: (apart from the NHK one on the CBC channel), is it only my location or is it a common problem?

Seriously, next season they MUST pick music with no copyright issues, because it's a pity not having their programs on Youtube for everyone to admire

Wait, do you mean their FD? Or their SD (Prince)? Because as far as I can tell, all the SD videos on YouTube are still working for me. So it could be a location problem on your end.

Their FD always gets copyright muted because they used Sam Smith. People have been uploading the performances to dailymotion instead.

The FD has always been muted on Youtube. However, I used to be able to see the SD (I even watched their Canadian Nats performance), but now I can't anymore and it's driving me crazy I don't know what happened:hopelessness:
