I think with the incredibly fit bodies of modern day skaters a lot can be done with hair and cosmetics to transform people. I think of both Meryl and Charlie as people who look so different off ice now. Actually it is obvious to me Meryl had her nose done after her Olympic year and DWTS Win. One must look close how much better it looks when she reunited with Max the next season.

Still there are many gorgeous skaters across the decades. I think of them in categories- maybe across the world- different nationalities or races. All have their beauties.

I think of Asian ladies and I think Shizuka Arakawa from Japan, Zijun Li of China and Yuna Kim of Korea as well as So youn park as example of beautiful skaters from Asia.

From Europe I think of Katarina Witt and Katia Gordeeva, and the ice dancer Angelika Krylova as very beautiful.

Because America is a melting pot we have so many ice princesses. I think Dorothy, Kristi, Michelle,
Sasha and Alissa and now Ashley as stunning skaters.

Who else would be on your list!

How about the men?

Young Kurt Browning? Alexei Yagudin? Gorsha Sur? Sergei Grinkov? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Canada I think has had some charming ladies: Jose choiunard for cuter and perky, Jamie and David were stunning- sad they split. Certainly Tessa Virtue personified pretty ice dancer in those lovely sexy dresses. And I think Scott Moir has a certain something.

I really think Surya Bonaly was very pretty and her costume and hair were unique.

Who would you love to have had coffee with? Just to chat of course!!!

I don't think speculating on whether or not a skater has had plastic surgery is appropriate.

I guess I don't get the point of this thread, are we really having a beauty contest? There is nothing wrong with finding a skater attractive, most of them are very beautiful people but when I watch figure skating this is not really something I notice. Strength, surety, skating skills, interpretation- these are the things I find beautiful in skaters. It doesn't feel right to judge these athletes like models. Are athletes who aren't as physically attractive as Kiira Korpi less? People will forget what athletes looked like someday, they won't forget their titles.

Maybe I'm too sensitive but I've worked with younger girls for many years and am hyper sensitive to propping physical beauty up. It's like Maria Sharapova earning more money than Serena Williams. It's not fair, and it's not because Sharapova is a better athlete.

Well, #1 is Maria Butyrskaya and it's not just her looks that make me feel that way. #2 Jennifer Robinson from Canada. They really needed to give her more close ups because with all of her qualities...Her eyes are beautiful!!! #3 Ashley Wagner...She's such a big performer that I was shocked by how tiny she is. Like Jennifer, her eyes are stunning and I never got that close to her. By the way, I hate rating skaters on their looks but I'll add my last two skaters. Alissa Czisny and Cynthia Phanuef. Gorgeous...

It is fun to talk about it because it gets judged. Best looking women who are thin are rated higher. Just like Sharapova. It is human nature to respond to looks and its super important to skaters. Peggy Fleming was the first skater I recall who had a nose job and many facelift so to look good on tv. If looks don't matter why are so many skater female and male died blond???

The older I get, the more I understand beauty of these young athletes. Their youth, optimism, strength, talent, health make them all beautiful. It's a brief time, hopefully they embrace it.

Yes, ALL OF THEM are beautiful, indeed it is so. It is like with flowers- all of them are beautiful, though a beauty of one flower is incomparable with the beauty of the other flower... So all of them are beautiful but in slightly different way, and they all together make a mosaic of figure skating complete ( sorry once more for my feeble English)

This topic immediately reminded me of Gabby Daleman, she's such a gorgeous young woman! I'm not too sure of her ethnic background. Whatever it is, she has great genes.

To somewhat digress: I hate the term "exotic beauty" as it implies that the person is foreign.

Gabrielle looks like ... Pocahontas, doesn't she? Aboriginal / Indian / First Nations ancestry is possible. I agree on gorgeous.

Does anyone know here?

Still not sure how ethically appropriate is this thread but amongst current skaters these are whose physical beauty I find almost distracting:
Maria Artemieva, Natalia Zabiako, Madison Chock, Ivett Toth, Romain Ponsart, Guillaume Cizeron
the past ones: Kiira Korpi, Sasha Cohen, Laura Lepisto

Madison Chock is absolutely Beautiful. As are Gabby Daleman, Tessa Virtue, and Vanessa James from France http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hb_HTu9qv8M/T1_5hubbd2I/AAAAAAAADRw/GCUAQRwe13U/s1600/vanessa_james.jpg

And some skaters dye their hair a darker color. Are you trying to imply blonde hair is considered superior or more attractive? :palmf: Reminds me of someone who used to post here and was banned for good reason. I also hope nobody today thinks they need a nose job or facelifts to participate in sport. That's pathetic. And it's one thing to lose weight to become a better athlete (although even that can become unhealthy, as we've seen) but you equate thinness with attractiveness, which is a terrible message.

Are you sure about Fleming, I seem to recall it was Zayak?

The skaters from Russia Europe USA go blond. It's a glamor sport- denying that is plain stupid. It's been discussed many times if you search topic. Why ban light off season topics🙄

I’m too young to remember Ludmila Belousova and Oleg Protopopov in their competitive programs, but my mother told me that neither of them was particularly good-looking, but when they skated they looked so divine that nobody could compare to them.

I believe that good technique, grace, musicality and artistic talent makes skaters look good on the ice. It gives them a presence. Facial features don’t because it’s not cinematography where facial expressions is a major way of conveying emotions, and consequently we get lots of close-ups. And even in cinematography acting talent is more important than facial features for making an impression. And when speaking of looks, one should bear in mind that personality makes more of a difference for how a person looks than facial features. Hair and make up specialists and computer editing can give an actor more striking features, but they can’t make him look intelligent, noble or inspired.

I believe skaters dye their hair (in various colors, including a magenta hue on some strands of hair by Meryl Davis and Serafima Sakhanovich for a short period of time) for a variety of reasons, same as non-skaters do: trying something new, showing off, looking more striking (just for personal satisfaction or to attract prospective romantic partners). TBH wherever I walk into stores, public libraries and doctors’ offices, I see lots of people with dyed hair among both general public and staff. So I don’t believe skaters’ reasons for dying their hair have anything to do with their profession. I really don’t think any skaters imagine that a different hair color will give them higher PCs. And if beauty in general were rewarded by the judges, Silvia Fontana and Kiira Korpi would have been the greatest fs legends now.

Thinness gives skaters a physical advantage in jumps and it makes female skaters easier to lift and throw, so many skaters try to stay as thin as they can without compromising their health, but, in case of women, it doesn’t make them more beautiful. What’s attractive in a woman’s body is curves, which is why breast and butt implants exist. But no figure skater would ever do it because the ability to perform difficult jumps, lifts and throws is what gives them higher scores, not beautiful figures.
