The Judging Controversy Thread

I have no idea what this page is about because quite a few of them are under my "ignore" list. lol.

A comparison video between Yuna and Adelina's Free programs side by side:

Thank you for the video, brianjyw. Much appreciated.

@leafygreens: Yes, the ISU has the burden of explanation. The results of investigation should be, at a minimum;

1) No anonymous judging
2) More neutral and transparent judge selection
3) Judges with checkered history should not be allowed
4) Most importantly, the composition of Tech Specialist Panel should be scrutinized. Preferably there needs to be a different selection mechanism there. They escape criticism even while judging is decried around the globe. (How often do you see TV commentators dare predicting a tech call? Outside of the obvious, such as falls or two-foot landings?) IMO the Tech panel was the most suspicious in rigging this Olympics. And in general, tech panel can single-handedly determine the color of medals and skaters' ranks in a tight race.

There is going to be no investigation on this issue. ISU and IOC pretty much ignored those who complained.

yeah, this seems to be the case. to their credit, they've created a system that guards them well from having to explain anything.

They've created a system where people don't care about figure skating, I will give them that.

obviously, people do care, as evidenced by 157 pages of debate.

i actually still haven't seen anyone who has looked at all the data, and come up with the conclusion that the results were totally 100% unbiased and fair. that says something to me.

Yup. It is saddening to see some folks try to manufacture a bogus story instead of engaging in debate with good faith. I thought the "athleticism" argument was ludicrous, and now I see someone saying that Adelina had actually "better choreography." lmaowtfbbq. It's not like they did not see the thread discussing the emptiness and tastelessness of her programs. (they did)

"Better" is arguable, but objectively it was more "intricate" if you measure turns in both directions and how the skater is moving about the ice (i.e. is she doing a lot of back crossovers to gain speed or using a greater variety of steps and turns).

Tastelessness is a matter of taste.

Emptiness is more quantifiable. The fact is that Sotnikova had more skating content in her program than most of her competitors. Would this thread or that one be a good place to spell it out?

No they will ignore the objective content that can be measured like transitions then keep harping on how artistic Yuna is.

The irony of the whole thing is so many people come to this forum spewing nothing but personal opinions and favoritism towards their own skater. They then turn around and use this bias approach to argue against certain judging biases. I think the real war here is one for respect and civility if I'm not mistaken.
