Thoughts on Ashley Wagner

The only quote I remember is "skating in Korea is popular because of me" - modest, huh?

Well, it's absolutely true
And I also do agree that Ashley has better line and musicality...she comes across as much more polished even though she's a lot younger.

Ashley rocks. She's versatile, has big jumps, and very good spins. Plus, she skates to music that suits her, instead of trying to become a baby ballerina type. She's one of my very favorite ladies in the world at the moment.

Our top juniors all seem to have distinctive taste: Ashley -- jazzy, Mirai -- cutesie, Caro -balletic

I'm actually really excited to see Ashley's new programs, classical (if you consider saint-saens as such) and tango. I'm impressed that she has her new programs choreographed so early in the season already. She seems a very level-headed young lady.

I think any of the ladies who plan to move up from Junior to Senior are already working on new programs. Ashley, who is going Senior internationally as well as nationally, will want to participate in some of the summer competitions so it pays to be ready.

Rachael, Mirai and Caroline are probably still going to do the JGP, so they will have to have two versions of their competition programs. All three were very involved in summer competitions last season, and I would expect them to do the same this summer.

Ashley, Mirai and Caroline will all have to do Regionals and Sectionals (unless they are exempted by conflicts with GP/JGP events).

How will Ashley fit into the GPs this coming season? I can only see her as a US third entry at SA over Czisny, Taylor and Liang, given either Meissner and Hughes will be at Skate America.

Joe.

Ashley won bronze at Jr Worlds and silver at the JGPF. According to the GP selection criteria, either of those honors guarantees her at least one invitation to the GP. If the USFS picks her for Skate America, that would give her a second GP event.

Originally posted today in the Mirai Nagasu thread:
Although, Wagner is old enough to do Senior Worlds. Any word yet on if she's going to stay Junior or not for this season? Still, there is an overwhelming amount of talent in the field next year and someone could finish relatively low at Nationals and still find themselves on the World team.
Ashley Wagner has already debuted two new senior programs for this season (see my brief report post on page 1 of this thread).

too much jazz

I like Ashley. I don't think she is the best of the three junior ladies, but I like her. One thing I hate, though, is that she uses too much jazz. She needs to experiment with different genres of music. Jazz bores me (sorry jazz fans).

First welcome to GS carolinefan177! Great to have you here.

I am open to people not liking Jazz, that is fine, but it brings to mind "when something different is tried it isn't liked, and when the same is done it is said to lack creativity." When personal expression is exhibited in various ways, it is often not "approved of." For me it was refreshing to click on a YouTube link and here some Jazz accompanying a skater. I wonder if there is anything that would not receive critisizum. JMO I think it is nice Ashley changed it up again this year, but I hope it didn't have to do with Judges complaining about the music.
