Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club

It’s rainy in Toronto today, per Zhenya’s IG story. That’s going to be hard for Jason to comeback to after a sunny weekend in SoCal.

I like Meyer lemons too.

^Jason lived in Colorado and Chicago, so he’ll be fine winter wise. But I’m just talking about today, lol.

How is Toronto at clearing snow? Most Jason fans remember how he totaled his car in the snow not long before Sochi because, as he said, Colorado doesn't treat the roads the way Chicago does. As someone who moved to CO not long ago, I was appalled at how little is done to treat the roads here for ice and snow. It's pathetic compared to the eastern U.S. Anyway, does Toronto do a good job with this?

Toronto has good snow clearing....even 'storm trains' with plows that run all night to keep the metro clear above ground.

But the amount of snow will be less than the Rockies, or Ottawa and Montreal, or even Buffalo as it gets the benefits of the "lake effect" .

That said, I'm not sure between Moscow and Toronto, which is colder and snowier.

I really thought, the Yuzu-Cheesecake in this German magazine was just a coincidence :laugh2:

Is this the one, you were thinking of?

Something like! That cheesecake is pretty with the rosette, though I think Mr. 2xOGM Yuzuru might like the round and golden topping on the one made at that café in Toronto: https://www.instagram.com/p/BgAJxOEnMZY/?taken-by=littlepebblesto

Who knows if it's a coincidence? Perhaps it's a plot

This is starting to be more like Cheers than the Office Space watercooler.

I've heard that Montreal and Ottawa are more efficient since we often don't get nearly as much snow here. However, last winter was very cold and snowier than it has been in very recent memory. Even parts of the harbour froze enough to support shinny and ice boating, which were, as I was told by my late father-in-law, more common in the colder winters of the past. Perhaps it's for the best these activities in the harbour are not as popular now, as I'm not sure Brian would encourage his skaters to indulge in ice boat racing in the middle of the competitive season, or even braving the natural ice for some figure skating like this gentleman did lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXM0KU56I8U

ETA: see! I've safely guided us back to figure skating

We'll, it's true that Ottawa and Montreal have the drill down pat...

I'm not sure if the great chains of snow sucking trucks followed by dump trucks is a Toronto thing...but the snow load isn't as great...

And in the spirit of fun, I'll share this trailer for the classic central Canadian preschool favourite "Snowplows on Patrol":

*raises hand* Buffalo-area resident here, can confirm. Though Toronto did get a couple pretty good storms last winter IIRC.

They don't do the dump trucks thing in Toronto. They mostly just plow the snow to the side of the road and hope it melts. If it doesn't, and they are desperate, they use something called a metromelt that loads and melts the snow, then trucks away the resulting water.

Correction: it dumps the water into the storm drains as it goes. See:

I’m not so sure Montreal has it down pat.... https://youtu.be/HfDZixZFzms
