TV coverage of Ladies SP

The Truth Booth was a setup by NBC for the skaters to talk about their performances after they skated. Rather than having an annoying color commentator ask the usual questions, they just had the skater in front of the camera speaking freely.

I liked it, actually; the skaters said the usual stuff, but they got to speak as much as they wanted w/o interruption. Nagasu handled it extremely well, even remembering to say "thank you" at the end, but all of them were quite personable. I thought it much more effective (and fun) than Q&A.

Nice coverage, but couldn't enjoy it because the computer I use to watch TV on crashed. :( had to find another TV. also, couldn't record it at all...would have had it in hd too :(.

Therefore I missed most of the telecast. Anyway, I saw it on "That Network"...I still would like a copy of a recording if anyone has one.

It seems to be up and running now though so I'm fine for the primetime broadcast.

I thought the coverage was pretty good so far. I think they are going to show the top ten ladies tonight live, plus some dance.

Do too many cooks spoil the soup? I don't see why we need Bob Costas AND the other guy AND Scott Hamilton AND Sandra Bezic AND Tracy Wilson AND Dick Button AND Jamie Sale AND David Pelletier. (Loved seeing Michelle, though. :) )

I really liked the close-up of the blades. It gave me more of an appreciation for how much the new judging system puts on the tech panel and judges. Even in slomotion I couldn't really tell whether jumps were underrotated more than 90 degrees or not (except Caroline Zhangd triple toe in her combination).

As for the Lutzes and flips, to me it looked like every skater they showed wobbled back and forth so much that I could hardly tell the difference.

I wasn't crazy about the Truth Booth, although both Mirai and Rachael were cute.

My comments on what I saw:

I liked the analysis and the "truth booth" segments. It really gives an event that has been covered the same way for years and years a fresh feel IMHO. I think the image quality is better too.

The skating wasn't too bad either- I saw parts of Kimmie, Rachel and Ashley but missed Zhang and Nagasu. (caught those on IN during the live stream though.)

I do think there could have been fewer commentators though. Keep Costas and Button, Bezic and Hamilton, Joyce and Wilson for scores. I don't think we need Tom Hammond or Jamie and David although I did like the latter two on Olympic ice earlier.

Actually, Caroline Zhang's performance wasn't as bad as I was expecting. She just had no zip or attack. I think she was overwhelmed. I bet she'll come back strong in the LP.

I agree. First of all I don't understand the reasoning at all for Jamie & David. When the event started and they announced Scott and Sandra, I thought OH NO!!! Then they showed Jamie and David and I was very confused.

I am so impressed with our young ladies...great competition.

I love skating!!!

MM, too many cooks in the kitchen for sure!!! I think that was total overkill. AS much as I love Dick Button, and I do, we don't need Hammond (is it?) and Bezic and Scott (love you both, but just saying)...and Sale and Peltier .....although, they rock. Choose and be done with it so we can focus on extended coverage and extended commentary.

The blades thing was cool as was the attempt to be better at explaining the judging. Totally a move in the right direction, imo. Again, we just need fewer 'stars' involved in the explaining so we can have sustained explaining.

Truth booth - so against my bettter judgement, but i loved it.

Rachel: she exudes maturity beyond her years, but I agree, the hair do was something of overkill. Other than that, her skating is great - I hope she can work on levels in the future so she can say: watch out, here I come!!!!

OO - love her and hugs!!!

All the rest - too fun to watch - my mom cried when Mirai skated - which meant I stayed calm, cool and collected - but, what a joy. Where did this Katrina come from??? some how i just never heard of her or don't remember. Wagner - go for it!!! Kimmie - you rock!!! Emily - you are missed. Alyssa - so brave and beautiful!!!! Bebe, I missed your short - rock on in the long!!!!! sorry if I missed someone.

Am sorry...but... you've said, that ladies are starting at 8 p.m right? so why am looking at the Insider..it's just me?

Perhaps you have a NBC channel that isn't Eastern time. Like here, it's only 5:00 p.m. on the West Coast and we have to wait three hours until it gets broadcast here.

so does anyone know witch channel on JLC's I could watch the nationals right now! thanks and sorry for so much asking,,,

I quick check of kpvi tv says it's from Idaho which is Mountain time. That probably means it won't be on for a couple hours there. It's only the 6:00 hour right now there.

Here's the kpvi website:

It's still an hour earlier than we on the West Coast have to wait!

Edited to add that the afternoon broadcast was shown at the same time across the country - that's why you got that one at the same time as the East Coast. But primetime they hold for the 8:00 hour.

Just watch one of the other NBCs on JLC...

You aren't the only one, it's on from 2am-5am here, I've already sent an email complaining to my NBC station.
