US Olympic Team Announced

Anyone else finding it hard to believe the Olympics are about to start? Since 2020 it's been a guessing game and hard to get as excited as usual since anything can happen at the last moment. Hopefully by Paris things will be more normal and running on schedule with no threats of postponements and we can get hyped again with actually international crowds being allowed back.

Jason flew from Toronto to LA to catch the last charter. Surely they would have been offered that? My complete surmise is that with so many teams, their coaches wouldn't go as well, and they wanted to keep training. Me, I would have picked that swag in LA:biggrin:
I don’t think Jason went back to Canada after U.S. Nationals; he had been training (with Tracy) at a rink near his hometown in the Chicago suburbs. It’s more likely that he flew to LAX from O’Hare.

I couldn't believe it either, but Jason did in fact return to TCC for a week after a week in Chicago post Nats:

He needed to go back to pack his six bags. Literally😂

So presumably the flight to LA left Toronto. :)

Seems like taking needless chances in this era of the virus. Why not stay in the US for a week? Well if he and the other skaters gets to China safe and sound (or has already arrived) the point is moot.

They have arrived, according to Jason's IG stories.

It was surprising to me, but everything now is risk assessment. I also find it surprising that skaters would travel on commercial planes if charters are available (not that I know anything about their availability).

And at least now we get to see Tracy in Team USA gear:biggrin:

It's odd that there has been radio silence from Team Alysa. Surely if she had flown out, it would be commented on somewhere by now. Given that she was positive for the crud at US Nationals, I wonder if her PCR tests did not go negative early enough for her to have flown out by Charter #2, and they are still waiting out an additional time period in order to meet all the testing conditions prior to departure. Or there is some active decision-making by USFS going on behind the scenes, to decide whether to sub in Lindsay. USFS may have requested that Team Alysa not comment on anything for now. I'm strictly speculating, mostly because I have nothing better to do at the moment.
I haven't heard anything from Kaitlyn and Jean Luc, but I don't think it means anything bad.

Just read somewhere that Kaitlyn posted on her Instagram within the last 24 hours, that her folks came up to Montreal to see them off. So we can assume that Hawayek/Baker, like Chock/Bates, are en route. (not necessarily on the same flights though)

This leaves only Alysa Liu as Status Unknown amongst the US primary team members. Alternate status also unknown, most people presume they are not traveling to Beijing.

Surely he could have had someone send the bags to him, sheesh.

Well at least we can say foolish decisions regarding limiting contacts to avoid covid taking people out of the Games is not limited to 1 country.

Does anyone know the ISU's protocol for the alternates this Olympics? Like at what point are countries/skaters at a 'point of no return' for putting in an alternate due to a main team member testing positive?

I was so relieved to see Vincent's post that he had made it and even had a practice!!!! These are the weirdest Olympics where I hardly care how they skate, just that they're able to get to the venue without drama!!!

So there are three batches right?

Vincent batch, Mariah batch and the Jason batch? Alysa should be with the Jason batch? Or is there one more flight?

Mariah and Jason were photographed together in LA so I think they were in the same batch (aka flight)

IIRC Alysa flew over or was supposed to fly over on the flight that took Vincent.

Also, Montreal Ice dance teams aren't necessarily flying with the other USA team members.

Madison and Zachary flew Montreal-Zurich-Beijing separate and IIRC that is what the other US ice dancers from Montreal are doing.

Well considering the media were pumping her up, I would think there would have been some photos of her boarding the plane in Team USA swag, and Vincent and Karen who flew over together have already been photographed at practice

l said IIRC. I swore I saw her on Vincent's live story that day and also, they train at the same place so it would make sense, but YMMV.

Maybe she was in the Vincent flight. She posted a pic of herself and her super cute doll so maybe she's on that flight and just laying low.

Who knows, but its Olympics they've got pictures of Vincent, Nathan and Karen who were on the first flight to Beijing practicing, so if she was with them it would seem odd that she's not been photographed.

You didn't look at Kaitlin's IG stories, I see? ;)

Her story showed her parents waving to her from the hallway of her apartment. No contact that I could discern and it looked to be far more than six feet. And since I believe Kaitlin is a native of upstate New York, her folks could drive to Montreal in a day, without being exposed to anyone else and without exposing anyone else.

Sweet, and safe. :)

Huh? There are plenty of non-contact, safe ways to see a loved one. Are you just trying to play tit-for-tat and criticize US skaters, because others have criticized your pet Russian skaters? Poor move on your part, you just look silly since you don't know any specifics, any more than the rest of us. I suspect both Kaitlyn AND her parents are savvy enough to not put her Olympic experience at risk.
