US Team: 4CCs and Worlds (updated)

I rather they send Tessa Hong. The other two girls are going to bomb so hard with terrible PCS. No chance they will do anything to help the current situation.

That makes no sense.

SP/FS PCS personal bests for them:
Glenn: 30.88/61.52
Tennell: 25.86/54.64
Hong: 24.89/48.69

Tennell's PB is over 16 points higher than Hong, and Glenn's PB is over 30 points higher.

Ouch for Castelli/Tran. ice coverage's reasoning makes sense, but that still has to sting. I hope it makes them so mad they get their SBS jumps together.

When will USFS start sending athletes who are competing as juniors internationally to junior worlds? That's when they need and can benefit from that competition, not as a consolation prize for a good showing at senior nationals.

They usually do a good job with pairs, dance, and men. Ladies.......idk.....

Yes. Starr and Tessa to Jr. Worlds. Tessa is 14yo, she will represent the USA in the jr circuit for the next 2 years, she should get this opportunity. Starr is the de facto junior #1 since Kaitlyn is age-ineligible.

The other two have no business in the Jr. circuit and they aren't that good to begin with. Why waste the spots on them. It's not like they are Karen Chen.
I very much agree. USFSA should have taken the opportunity to invest in these two. That FS from Tessa was mostly nerves. They should send her to more big events like that so she could get over it. Same with Starr. No offense to Bradie and Amber but their is way more potential for Starr and Tessa to be World contenders. I highly doubt Bradie and Amber will do well. Oh well..

Anyway, it says a lot about the quality of US pairs that they would rather send Alexa and Chris to Worlds and they haven't competed all season. I don't blame them. If Alexa and Chris are looking good, and Denney/ Frazier had the best international results out of everyone else who competed this season.... this is honestly the best team to send for what usfsa is working with.

omg, they gave Zhang and alternate spot for worlds. Do you know what this means? She gets funding!
She doesn't even have the TES to enter so she's getting sent to a senior B too!

I know it's unrealistic, but I hope someone gives up a spot for Mirai on the 4CC team...

I can't believe that Tessa is THIRD alternate! She's not even first alternate! I thought for sure she'd be chosen for Jr. Worlds! I guess three pops in a row mean no JW! It's just shocking!

No surprise on the ladies world team at all. Ashley will probably decline in spite of it being an Olympic test skate. She does NOT competing in 4CC because it takes away from her training. Apparently Gracie is the 2nd alternate, so at least she's got that. So much to process.

When is the USFS going to realize sending mediocre junior eligible skaters from Seniors never works. Give the kids a shot they won't do much worse.

That's probably just about right. According to NBC C/T aren't expecting citizenship in time for 2018 but for 2022 and I believe USFS knows this so they are probably giving other pairs that might represent the U.S. in 2018 more international exposure and recognition.

Mervin and Marissa train and live in Canada full time. Mervin will never get a US green card (permanent resident card) when he does not live in the country. No green card, no US citizenship. The 2022 Olympics are only 5 years away. It takes 5 years of holding a green card before citizenship can be obtained. Unless he already has a green card and is living in the US, he will not have citizenship for that Olympics, either.

Doesn't Ashley usually skip 4CCs? I hope she does again so Mirai can go even in a pre-Olympic year.

I do not think she will skip it this year. It's the Olympic test event, and she is already down an event from her normal training plan/ cycle since she did not make GPF this year.

Ashley says every year that going to Asia is more taxing on her now that she is older and interupts her training. She had a chance to go to golden spin but declined so she could focus on training. I think it would be good to compete in this arena, but she's going to want to focus on worlds as always.

Yeah but Caroline got an alternate spot behind Gracie, even though she finished above her at Nationals. She isn't even considered for 4CC.

Needs more poltiking

Well, Ashley usually announces almost immediately if she's declining 4CCs, so if we haven't heard anything from her by tomorrow I'd assume she's going. Last year we literally knew by around now that she was passing on it and Mirai would go, she was that quick to announce.

I think whether she'll go is a toss up. I lean toward no because of her past policy but as others have said she may not want to pass up the Oly test experience.

Not suprised S/K are sent to 4CC and Worlds, other teams didn't really show how great they are at Nationals or even in GP series. But I'm suprised C/T are not even going to 4CC. Their ranking will go down after this season....

USFS sending 17 year old Amber (who still has time, IMO, and a lot of potential) and 19 year old Bradie to lose to prepubescents. Bradie had her chance last year and did poorly, winding up in 11th, and to be honest she was better at Nationals last year than she was this year, by a lot. Big mistake.

I'm interested to see what Amber does (she went in 2014 and placed 7th). I think she could be a bit of a late bloomer like Mariah Bell, if she's given more opportunities to shine.

Not sending Tessa is a mistake. She's the closest answer the US has got to Zagitova/Gubanova/etc. at the moment. She's no where near as strong as them, but she could be by the time they are seniors. Her SP showed so much potential. Her LP was a disaster because of nerves. NOT giving her more competitive experience will only hurt her in the future. :disapp:

I can why they wouldn't send Starr...her jumps aren't quite all there yet, though I bet they will be next year, but the competitive experience would've been much for valuable for her than for Bradie. What on earth is USFS thinking?

I feel bad for Mervissa, but it makes sense, especially in a pre-Olympic year and they can't go to the Olympics. Thrilled for Alexa and Chris, and I'm so excited to see their programs!

Ashley shouldn't go to 4CCs. Due to her age, I find it unlikely that she'll be able to peak at both Worlds and 4CCs, and a poor showing at 4CCs won't do her any good. She's been the Olympics before - I don't think she needs to test out the rink here.

I definitely think Bradie is a mistake! Either Starr or Tessa would've been much better. I compared the TES of Starr and Bradie and Starr was a higher TES in the short and pretty much the same score in the long. Starr has more consistent triple triple jumps and would've gained valuable experience for next year. Tessa had a case of NERVES. She hasn't competed at nationals in 3 years! Of course this would happen. She shouldn't be put at the bottom of the list because of a case of nerves. What the heck are they thinking?!

I also feel like Ashley would be better off not going to 4CC. Of course if she managed to win it against the Japanese and Canadians she would have great momentum for Worlds.

But I would think she would prefer more time for training (continue to fix URs, spin levels etc). Especially with Oly spots on the line at Worlds...

Whatever she decides, rooting for her like crazy!

I am really suprised that US fed gave an advantage to C/L over C/T. Didn't expect that since they usually rely on Nats results. HOWEVER, I'm partly subjective but I'm glad though. C/L showed lots of potential just at Nats and they could be hopefully doing well in the future. But trying to be reasonable, C/T were a hotmess at Nats and barely defeated C/L anyway, they are not consistent at all, haven't showed any great results in these there years and C/L may have actually showed more potential than them.

Cain and LeDuc also have been around the block for years. Not sure how you think they have more potential. They don't. They are equally messy and inconsistent.

If you want to talk true potential, C/T have a lot higher than C/L. They were former world medalist, Olympian. Tran was in the mix with sui/han and s/k for years.

Caroline doesn't have minimum TES for 4CCs and there's no competition for her to get it in time. Bavarian Open, the most likely suspect for those needing Junior Worlds or Worlds TES, is the same weekend as 4CCs

Cain and LeDuc certainly aren't new to skating or in their early teens, but they've only been skating together for 7 months. I think it's fair to say they have some potential.
