Virtue and Moir capture second Olympic gold

Is there any news on what Victor and Moir have planned to do aftem:r the Olympics? Are they going to retire or continue on to Worlds? Someone now has to break their record in skating. Well done 🇨🇦 Canada. Proud Canadians!

Just got my answer on CBC. This is Tessa and Scott’s last Olympics....CBC is calling it Canada’s Gold Rush.

They and their team has find the only way how to surpass the French team and they did it perfectly. They would loose with heir programe from last year which was more similar to the French team's style and they are better in that field.
It was a memorable competition and their 2 programs will last for ages to be rewatched by many not even yet born I think.
Chapeau!

I've already been re-watching both V/M and P/C FD's all evening last night. Honestly I may be one of the few Canadians who wouldn't be (too) upset if the results for 1-2 were reversed. Both teams were magnificent. And V/M already have a team gold and the 2010 title, so I wouldn't have thrown myself off a bridge if they had lost to P/C.

FD of the french were better. No chance that the difference beetwen them is even not a point. It is a joke

The panel of judges was mostly pro canadian it was fixed- that was no better performance then in the team event

Of course they could do that (and lose some points), but that was not my point.

While I don't see any purpose in speculating what would have happened without the dress issue, I also don't think it's necessary to diminish the impact that this had on their program or belittle their efforts in keeping it all together like the poster I quoted was doing.

Anyway, congratulations to Virtue/Moir on their victory! They brought their best exactly when they needed it the most.

But didn't the dress issue affect their performance, and ultimately their scores? They ended up taking the hit anyway, it seems. Personally, I love their Moonlight Sonata program, even though I was rooting for V&M. It was an unfortunate incident. But they are young, and there's always the next Olympics. So long as V&M don't return ...

P/C twizzle in the SD was really bad. She was late obviously compared to him. I don’t know how come you think it’s a worthy of that score.
The judges love P/C and want a fresh face to win Olympics. But the mistake in SD was too big.

You're right, I noticed that too. It would be hard to twizzle in those particular circumstances.

That was a phenomenal competition!! I'm a bit sad for the French, but I keep telling myself that four years ago they were watching the Sochi games at home, now they very nearly won the gold medal. They should be just as proud of their hard work and especially that glorious free dance.

I'm insanely happy that Tessa and Scott were at their very best last night, it was every bit as good and possibly better than their Mahler in Vancouver, for different reasons. Now of course my friends who tune into ice dance every four years are speculating if they were a real life couple. Heh. (I don't know what to tell them.)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

They should have a baby.

No they couldn't go to the referee and get it fixed. The same thing happened to a Canadian couple, they went to the referee, the referee refused, they went on to finish the program. I think it was at 4CC during the time V/M were taking a break (and there was space for a Canadian dance team other than the current top 3 at 4CC).

Wow, and they let Tonya fix her lace!

Ok, provide a detailed breakdown and quote the rulebook if the scores were so egregiously inaccurate. If you had a real case, then this wouldn't be a problem would it? :rolleye:

😮 WOW this thread is up to 12 pages..Papadakis/Cizeron is only at 1 page.
Just congratulated them on their silver medal..

The french didnt captivate the crowd like Tessa and scott and is it me or does Papadakis come off cold interviews? Tessa and Scott deserved this win they skated lights out and it was fire those opening swizzles were lit!🔥🔥🔥🔥

Congrats to Tessa and Scott. I actually thought the difference in the short program should have been significantly higher between the two- I think the V/M short is miles ahead of everyone else's. I thought the overall order was correct, but many people were going to be mad regardless of who won. What a great way to end their career as competitors.

I hope Gabby and Guillaume continue; I don't see who else can catch them in the next four years and I want to see more from them. Hopefully they're not too discouraged and will continue to compete and develop.

Big shoutout to the Shibs who fought against the momentum of the other American teams and delivered two good programs to get the bronze. They were the only team that went and grabbed the bronze medal with their performance.

Congrats to Tessa and Scott. I really enjoyed their perfomance. I don't break out my goat emoji often but I did for these two. I enjoyed the French free as well, but I did notice the crowd didn't respond to them as much as they did for V/M.

Papadakis seemed very unhappy (or forced happy) in the few instaces I saw her in interviews etc. I don't blame her though. Nobody goes to the olympics to have a wardrobe malfunction

I lost my mind when Tessa and Scott skated. It was spine tingling, perfection. I’m so happy they won.

Now for my rant. Ok.. so looking at the score sheets.. for the SD how do you justify giving P/C +3GOE on twizzles she clearly messed up. And how do you put P/C ahead of V/M In the SD?. The US and French judge did and RUS judge for PCS only. Come on.. Tessa and Scott should of been ahead by at least 3-4 pts after that SD at minimum. I also don’t understand how P/C beat V/M in the FD either. I guess it comes down to what style you like more but I thought V/M were loghtyears ahead in that program too. Anyways that will always be unforgettable

SMH @ people complaining about V/M's FD score, they've been judged harshly all season. Their score here is actually well deserved (although I believe they should've gotten a higher score)
