Wakaba Higuchi

Happy about the new hair accessory too! And congrats for winning the competition. I'm sure she'll train hard to polish these programs. I can't wait to see her in her next competition.

Miss Higuchi is dealing with puberty quite well. I assume this season will be hard for her as she is still growing. I hope she will settle down by Olympic season.

Video from Japan Open

Protocols. She was 5th.

Besides the 2 pops, she didn’t do too bad. No UR on the 3Lz3T nor ! on the 3F. The pops are getting concerning though.

Looks like Wakaba has a good long break between competitions after Japan Open? So hopefully her programs will be well-polished by the time of her first senior GP event - Trophee de France in November. I'm going there, really looking forward to it!

I just realized she has 6 weeks until TdF. I'm wondering if she’ll compete at East Japan Sectionals at the beginning of November to get into competition mode. I hope you'll share your wonderful photos with us again!

I really love her EX. I just watched her Carnival on ice performance and there was that scary moment when she lost her hair accessory and then almost skated over it

I just came back from East Japan Sectionals where Wakaba competed. She won of course, but she had a tough time in the SP with a 1Lz and 3Fe2T. Yikes.

The pop on the lutz looked like her blade got caught in a hole or something because a big chunk of ice flew up (I thought her boot had broken) but apparently she pulled a muscle. She looked really good during the warm-up though. Her SP costume looked better live than on video. I don't know if it's because she had the skirt trimmed or videos just don't do her justice.

In the FS, she popped the flip but attached the 3T<2T to the end of 2A.

She looked frustrated because of the flip but she did well considering she didn't even have to compete here. I hope she didn't tire herself out before TdF. The FS must be draining on her, she could hardly walk once she got off the ice.
Also, she has a new FS costume. The design is almost the same except it's red with gold embellishments + colorful glitters with a matching gold + glittery headband. Red suits her much more than pale pink so I'm happy about the change. Good luck to her next week!

Thanks for the reports, mikaboo. Hope Wakaba will have good skates at the upcoming GPs.

Wakaba looks like a queen in the red Scheherazade dress

Maybe it would be wise to move the 3Lz-3T combo back in the first half of the program? But then it'll change the choreography...

News clips from today's FS. (with Akari Matsubara and Yuna Aoki from the junior ladies)

The costume looks much better live, especially the embellishments which looks to be overly decorative on TV.
I think the SP costume is a little shorter than before too

The color looks great and it's a gorgeous costume. The style is still the style that makes her appear shorter, but it makes sense that she wants to go with the Scheherazade look.

The color is definitely much better. I'd prefer a different design as well but I'll take this change rather than none at all :)

thanks, thanks mikaboo for the detailed repots!
Actually, i come to expect Wakaba and junior ladies these days, since the current main senior ladies cant get rid of UR, DG, edge error, etc. they've taken a long time to correct, but they cant. it's very disappointing to see their TES decreasing right after their performances... they cannot compete with ohter countries ladies evenly as long as they dont erude those deduction. And im afraid such a day wont come.

I hope all is going well for preparations in Trophee de France! I'm so grateful for the costume color change, since I didn't like the shade of pink in the earlier costume. based on pictures, the accessories/embellishments are a bit much in my opinion, but I'm sure it looks better live. The results at sectionals aren't ideal, but I hope she can perform strongly at her (official) senior debut!

The new costume is SO much better, though the head piece costume looks too big to me. But at least, yes, I like it much more. :)
I really hope she'll slay at TDF. Crossing fingers! Go Wakaba! :cheer:

Really looking forward to TdF... especially since (if I remember correctly) Wakaba said in a recent interview that one of her goals was to beat Mao... and saying it "out loud" would help motivate her.

I'll be cheering for both Wakaba and Mao (erm... and many of the other skaters too haha :-D), so mostly I just hope for beautiful, clean performances by everyone and never mind the scores...!

But, I would be so happy if Wakaba can do well enough here, that she has a chance of reaching the GP Final. That's no easy task, but I am optimistic! :-D

Go Wakaba! :-D

Wakaba skates LAST in the ladies SP for Trophee de France. Wishing nothing but the best for her senior gp debut :cheer:

I posted this in the general SP thread but I think it's worth repeating here:

It's so strange seeing everyone in the forum complementing Wakaba's artistry  As a junior skater many posters (including myself) commented that her jumps were great, but her artistry needed improvement. I'm so glad that these more mature programs are allowing her to express herself better, and I'm so happy that it's being recognized as well. I can't believe that she would've scored 70+ had she not doubled the flip! :jaw:

Overall, I consider this a really solid debut. I loved seeing the 7's and the couple of 8's in her PCS scores :)

Great GP debut. So happy for her. Can't wait to see her in her new Scheherazade costume tomorrow.

appreciated Wakababy's artistry from day 1, from the day my eyes landed on this girl. NEVER A DOUBT.
Because this girl has true and real musicality and it is extraordinary. Her artistic talent eventually everyone will detect and has to admit.
Just watch how her speed swells and fades with music. Only a couple seasoned senior skaters can achieve that.
Cannot wait to watch more from this naturally gifted exceptional musical girl. She is a raw diamond.
Wakababy also has very strong tech element. but I will not expect extreme consistency from her. It is physically impossible with her physique and jump quality.
But artistically I have very high expectations from this girl.

Wakaba!

your potential score is already so large! you had a great senior debut!
go! wakaba! i wish you can win at Nationals!
