Wakaba Higuchi

Are you fond of Wakaba? And you are going to Worlds 2017. Hope she will be there. Japanese Nats 2014 is memorable competition for me. I watched Wakaba and Shoma live at the first time. they were junior but just thriling. my standard is if this skater excites me or not? She was lady version of a cannon ball (lol). Since then Ive had the specia feelings with them.
Yes, her costume change to red is a big success! Pink is a bit childish. She looks beautiful when she does make-up.

I really enjoy her skating. I was so excited to see her skate so beautifully at Lombardia and again at Trophee de France. When people talk about her height (small), I have to stop and think about how tall she is. To me, she is such an amazing combination of power and delicacy, that it makes me completely forget about her height. And after looking at Yes Way's photos again, I love the SP costume too!...Yes, I am going to Worlds 2017 and am praying that lots of my favorites will be there! Your 2014 Nats experience must have been amazing!

Her ability as a jumper is too great, so her artistry hasn’t been spoken so much. Japanese media like sterotype and Marin is artistic skater, on the other Wakaba is a jumper. Actually, last season she didn’t get PCS. But off season’s training and her programs this season work well so much!
Good luck at NHK, wakaba! I worried about her pop, but if she can skate almost clean, there’s a chance she will get the result within 2nd. Further, her PCS may be growing. In this stage, it is important for you to keep good performances and add PCS.

Just to note, 'PUNK' means a kind of rock music or a worthless person so English speaking posters may not know what you mean. it's 'Pop' in English. :agree:

I'm rooting for a clean FS :cheer: Her SP was not perfect, but I hope she's not too discouraged by it.

Edit: A thing I noticed while updating the first page. Wakaba really likes to place 5th, doesn't she? :drama: 5th in the SP at nhk, 5th in the SP at Trophee de France, 5th in Jr Worlds this past spring, not to mention 5th in Japan Open in September. She usually gets it together by the FS but I thought that was interesting. Hopefully this pattern ends very soon :agree:

I was sad for wakaba. But your positive view cheers me up. Yes fs has a lot of jumps and she still has the chance.

Go, wakaba!:cheer:

Wakaba is skating second in the last group for the FS today :cheer: Good luck!!!

Wakababy has improved so much and she wasn't bad to begin with ;)

Good luck in the FS!!! :yay:

Best wishes for a great FS today. She is so awesome, I forget that she is only 15! Keep fighting!

Poor Wakababy:slink:you can tell she wants this so badly. I just hope she would not overthink in the free program.

Wakaba stated earlier that she really wants to make the GP Final. I hope that's not putting extra pressure on herself.

So true! And that's easier said than done. Hope she doesn't get a bad case of nerves. Don't know if it's even mathematically possible at this point, but I have her 2nd in the predictions game. Of course it's just for fun anyway, but I think anything can happen. I know she'll get great support from the wonderful audience too.

She is young, she is competitive and she is so ambitious, in a good way. Gladly she has certain talents to pair with, but she needs experiences by learning her lessons. I dont actually mind whether she can get in to the final or not, I just want to see her skate like the fierce girl at 2015's junior worlds. If she can skate like that, she will get what she wants coz apparently judges like her; they are more than willing to reward her jumps, her skating skills and her improved performance ability.

Well said! At this point, it's all great experience for her, and yes, it does seem the judges like her. For her young age and first year as a senior, it does seem that she manages her nerves well.

I was really happy that her PCS were pretty high at her first official senior gp (trophee de France). It was almost 3 points lower at nhk which didn't make me happy, but I was glad to see that the judges were liking her so early on.

Updated the first page with NHK Trophy results. Overall, I think it was a solid GP debut! I wasn't able to watch her skate because of the livestreaming issues, but I'm proud of Wakaba, regardless of placement. I'm disappointed in her drop in PCS (I'm confused why it was so much lower than in France...), but I'm looking forward to Japanese Nationals :)

I am quite confused with her PCS as well. Anyways, considering only one Japanese girl barely made the final, I think it would not cost her too much for missing the opportunity. Not going to the final should leave her plenty of time to prepare for the national.
