Wakaba Higuchi

watched Wakaba's free. her outing is similar to TEB. yet PCS dropped 4 points. and it is in Japan (On the contrary, Maria's PCS increased significantly comparing to TEB outing). which is weird and interesting. Satoko's PCS is high in Japan which is understandable. Satoko is the default No. 1 Japanese lady(but her PCS may drop outside of Japan) and Japanese fed need someone in the final securely. But Wakaba's PCS drop is really weird. Maybe some strings were pulled or some deals were made in the grand scheme of things.
Or, maybe, Judges just dont have a clue how to score PCS.
Anyways. Wakababy seems is going through puberty right now. Her skin is not in a good condition as well (some acnes). Hope she can sail smoothly through this turbulent period of her young life and always has a peaceful mind and come back better at each future outings. Just do your best.

I'm hoping for a strong showing at Nationals. I know she placed 3rd and 2nd over the past two years, but since she's officially competing at a senior level this time, a good placement might help her PCS.

More importantly, a good placement at Nationals, I am saying at least silver, would guarantee her a spot for the worlds.

I completely forgot about the Worlds team too! I'm curious to see if she'll be selected. Japan doesn't base their selections just on Nationals placement so I hope she makes it.

Considering almost all senior girls were more or less strugglling this season, as long as she makes the podium I think that should be good enough. But it would definitely be a tough decision for the Fed to make selection, so we will see.

I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear those discussions as to who goes where! Could be VERY interesting!

Japan has so many ladies, they might do the thing where they send one team to 4CC and another team to Worlds. I forget if they've done so in the past.

I don't think they have ever sent a full different team to 4CC before

But I think this season they will want to send their top skaters to 4CC at the Olympic arena in South Korea. Even Yuzuru has already expressed his wish to go. I believe Wakaba will have no problems making the podium again; the Eurosport commentators in my country were saying Wakaba wants to "dethrone" Satoko at Nationals and after not making the GPF I'm pretty sure she will be rested and fired up.

"Dethrone" sound so dramatic :p As a fan, I'm always worried about Wakaba's consistency (no pops please!). She always performs solid during Nationals so it's probably me just being worried.

It's probably just the US who sends a different team to 4CC; I remember them doing so in the past. I'm glad that Japan wants to send their top skaters since that means more international experience.

Small clip about Wakaba that focuses on her speed. The interviewer asked her if lowering the speed a little will lead to more consistent jumps. She said she think it will be easier to jump, but doesn't want to do that since speed is her trademark. I guess she pops a lot more lately due to bad timing with the jumps.

She looks so cute with her hair down:hap10: As a person who is absolutely obsessed with lipsticks (I think I have more than 70 lipsticks:yay:) , I gotta say Wakababy has an excellent taste of choosing the right colors to go with her makeup as well as the costumes:dance:

kudos to Japanese figure skating media. Hope they could have done that when Yuna is stilling competing (and comparing to the rest of the field ). Of course, they would NOT do that then:biggrin:

Her basic bladework and edges are very strong. Arguably the best among the crop of recent junior turn senior girls. I think it is necessary though for her to reign in the speed in some places. Judges evaluate SS on how the skater can control and vary speed and gain speed and turns and edgework, not just speeeeeddd. Certainly I agree she should attack the jumps full on, the way Yuna and CaroK did. Just that she should not be a speed truck throughout. CaroK used to be a speed truck in her younger days which didn't allow her to showcase her true SS or take on more varied choreo. Wakaba has such good basics that I think it will work out. With her speed, I suspect she may do better tagging on a 3R as her combo than the 3T.
