Wakaba Higuchi

Sorry for the double post, but anyone have any idea why she is always tweeting quotes from this guy? Who is he? https://twitter.com/HayatoSuzuki11/status/944564842635124736
No idea who he is, but he calls himself a Sports Mental Coach. I don't know if that means he's a "proper" sports psychologist? Perhaps Wakaba just finds his posts helpful/profound/whatever...?

Actually, I have to wonder if maybe a sports psychologist is exactly what she needs, to get rid of that 3S mental block...!

I hope Wakaba will bounce back from this disappointment and come back even better and stronger. Both of her programs were SO wonderful this season. Hopefully when she has a few days to think, she will feel ok about how her season went this year. Very anxious to hear the announcement after the men's to hear what her assignments are. I still haven't given up on the Olympics!

I am Team Wakaba 100% over everyone, but I’m torn—if she’s named over Kaori she’ll have to deal with the blowback for years. Much like Ashley Wagner has. It could make the mental game more difficult for her. Well, it’s out of our hands.

does that mean that wakabond did his last mission? we will not see it until next year it is so unfair.

She's been assigned to Worlds. I guess they think she has potential to do better than last time. Wakaba really grew on me this season so I was hoping to see Skyfall in PC. Well, hoping she can do well in Milan for herself and to help get those 3 spots back.:pray:

I think she will get 4CC and I'm hearing Worlds too? Wakaba really grew on me this season so I was hoping to see Skyfall in PC.

no she got world is long to wait until I'm sure she would have been beautiful at the Olympics. it is still underestimated I must calm because it's not fair for Kaori.
and she said it will be good for her future. she had no chance of getting hurt
JFS again disappoints ...

A visual of my current feelings. I am so gutted for Wakaba. She deserves to go (that doesn't mean that Satoko and Kaori didn't). She was robbed twice on the GP, was perpetually underscored in PCS even though she made huge improvement this year and had the best programs of any lady. Honestly I don't even care who medals in the Olympics anymore.

I hope Wakaba is able to see what a strong season she's had and build on it. She is too talented- she could definitely stay a force through the next quad. Don't give up Wakaba!

I edited my post. She just has worlds, but she is a 1st alternate for 4CC so she might be there as well now that I think about it.

I'm glad Wakaba got Worlds' so that we can watch her lovely programs again. If this had been the end of her season, I'd have missed her terribly.

yes but it's not the Olympics :( I know they wanted to reward everyone.
but she is not in an easy situation, that they do not complain of the consequences.

good on a positive note she will be able to rest and maybe we will see her before March:

I'm a little miffed that Wakaba is on the world but not 4CC team, I feel like such a large gap between major competitions is just a disaster waiting to happen. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lady pull out of 4CC to focus on the olympics, so hopefully we'll still see her there. If not, I hope she does some senior Bs to keep her programs sharp and up her confidence and WS ranking.

All that aside, congratulations Wakaba for making the world team! So glad the season isn't over yet!

So sad to know that Wakaba won't be at the Olympics :( I'm glad I will at least get her to watch her live at Worlds

Aww, there's an article saying that she left the area with red eyes, in silence. I hope she can forget this crushing disappointment as soon as possible and have a glorious redemption next March.

She was probably planning the serious business, of which things she was going to throw or break, when she gets home ;-D LOL

She just tweeted:

“Another four years will make the achievement then that much sweeter.”
So it seems she is already aiming for 2022 Olympics...!
She is a fighter, and nothing can keep her down for long!

I was surprised JSF decided to send her to World's. It's a huge responsibility, winning back 3 places is at stake. JSF are putting a great deal of faith and trust in Wakaba. I hope Wakaba will be inspired by this vote of confidence...

(Personally, I take it to mean: JSF had a hard time choosing between Kaori and Wakaba for the Olympics, and it was a close thing. So if Kaori gets Olympics, then Wakaba gets Worlds. Just my opinion :-D)

By the way, I hope Medvedeva will go to World's too, after Olympics... so she and Wakaba can spend some time together there :-D

That’s my opinion as well. If JSF didn’t want to support her, why would they choose her to compete with Satoko to get 3 spots back for Japan? They’d have just chose Kaori or Mai instead. But they didn’t.
Don’t be too negative. Yes it’s a pity for the Olympics, but they definitely do not put her aside. She’s capable of delivering, and they trust her to do it at Worlds.

Of course I'm disappointed Wakaba will not be going to the Olympics; I could tell her team took extra care to give her two amazing programs for the big competition, and to me still, she has the best set of programs this entire year. In a season with multiple repeats, warhorses, and safe choices, I applaud Wakaba for daring to go outside of the box, even within her own country, to try something new and exciting. Her programs are so dynamic and eyecatching that they even introduced her to many new fans this season. I hope she knows all of us are rooting for her :) I had a feeling that regardless of 2018 that she would continue until 2022. Maybe this year just isn't her time, and I'm relieved to see her determination to work hard until 2022 to make those Olympics that much sweeter. I've been rooting for Wakaba since her junior debut and you bet I'll be rooting for her all the way until 2022 :agree:
