Concerti grossi and Faust cantata by Alfred Schnittke. Psychedelic music, good for crunching numbers at work. I was brought there from an audio-production of a book that used some of the music. He takes a nice baroque idea and tonal stuff he and other folks wrote and makes a lava lamp out of it. It's for those who had enough romanticism for a while.

Nigel Westlake's Antarctica Symphony, and it really is crying out to be used by junior skaters...

Romeo & Juliette symphony by Berlioz. Distant sounds, Great banquet and instrumental version of the Capulets garden scene would make a nice alternative to Nino Rota IMO. It's a lot of music though and would need to be cut.

Heard a snippet of a piece of music yesterday that always gets to me. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, and full of pride. So, I listened to the whole piece this morning:

John Williams & The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra - "Jurassic Park"

They actually did a whole concert together of his work:

I haven't watched the concert yet, but I am really looking forward to doing so. Reading through the time-stamped list that somebody posted, there are so many familiar tunes that I love!

Not long to go now until the New Year's Concert. 6 weeks from today!

One of my temporary partners as I moved around the country was an excellent pairs partner. Built like a rugby player and solid technically. But he would NOT skate to anything classical or romantic or lively. So with him, for club shows, we worked our way through the soundtracks of his favourite movies: Apollo 13, Dances With Wolves, Henry V, Robin Hood, Born on the Fourth of July.... (Secretly, I loved the music myself, and would probably never have got to skate to some of them with any other partner.)

Putting the final polish on our program for the club winter show next weekend. Surely others better known must have used this, Joni Mitchell's River, with the repeated line "I wish I had a river I could skate away on".
