I remember having to learn that one for a Toronto Conservatory exam, although I couldn't play a bar of it now, and I doubt if I played it as well as he does. (In the summer, we used to leave our front door open, so all the neighbours heard me practising. When we were preparing to move when I was 16, one of the neighbours said to my mother, "We're going to miss your daughter's piano recitals in the summers." Mother said she was never sure if the woman meant what she said, or if it was really "We got so sick of hearing her play the same pieces over and over!" )

to John Williams - a national/international treasure! I have many of his CDs with the Boston Pops, as well as several movie soundtrack ones. One of my all time favorite CDs is the "Summon the Heroes" the one he did for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. I ALL of his Olympic fanfares & what he composed for the Statue of Liberty.

I heard today that actor James van der Beek, who played Dawson Leery in "Dawson's Creek", died yesterday from bowel cancer at the age of just 48. And I just had to post this as my tribute:

I watched "Dawson's Creek" when I was a teenager, and this scene always stuck with me. I loved this song so much that I actually recorded it onto an audio tape!

Definitely drawn from Slavic folk music; a dated version below but the tempo is perfect (so many get it wrong). This was performed in Roumania under the scrutiny of its dictator.. worth visiting again just for the conductor’s enthusiasm!

We're familiar with Laufey and her song "Promise", which Alysa Liu used for her short program.

This song has been played a lot on NY radio, it sounds pretty different from other stuff on the airwaves here.
