after yesterday's party we got familiar with all Major Lazer's latest EP 'Know no better' :laugh:- every song is great, but this one above is just FIRE, would love to see this kind of rhythm in some of Latin SDs this upcoming season...

A podcast of somebody reading a selection of Katie Scarbrough's cancer blog posts.

Katie Allan (as she was then) was the girl who first put Northern Ireland on the figure skating map. She was the 1996 British Junior Ladies Champion, and 1997 Northern Ireland Senior Ladies Champion. But she then had to retire through injury.

Although her career was relatively short, her success in that time meant that she became the inspiration for all the skaters from Northern Ireland that followed her.

Katie died from bowel cancer in 2013 at the age of 32.

One thing I loved about Katie was that, despite living away from Northern Ireland for so long, she never lost her accent (it is amazing how many people from here do!). So, I was a bit concerned when I pressed play and heard an English accent. But, that was just the narrator. Thankfully the person they had reading the posts had a Northern Ireland accent (albeit a different one to Katie).

It was very emotional. And I'm not afraid to admit that there were a few times during it when I welled up.

But, the most emotional part was the last 10 minutes or so. The final 2 blog posts were heartbreaking to listen to. After the final blog post, they played a recording that Katie made for her husband. Just hearing her voice again was enough to set the tears off.

As a figure skating fan, I was a bit disappointed that Katie’s skating background was only mentioned in passing once in the podcast. And her final trip home a month before her death, including going to a charity ice gala held in her honour, was completely left out. But, Katie wrote so much in her blog that it would have been impossible to fit everything into the podcast. Hey, her episode is already the longest of the series by 25 minutes!

So, on the whole, I think Georgina Scull did a great job of telling Katie’s story.

It was a fitting tribute to an amazing woman.

I spent the day going thru and listening to a bunch of records that my parents used to listen to. I was blown away when I looked up some of the music videos. Insane amounts of commitment to emotion. I'm not sure if I'm more impressed or just simply entertained.
