Can't wait to hear Mandy Capristo singing the national anthem before the German Grand Prix at Hochenheim tomorrow.
So, to get ready for it, I decided to re-live the moment that, after being a long-term fan of the girl group she was in, I realised that this girl was something special in her own right:
Mandy Capristo - "If I Were A Boy"
This is actually part of a medley that the members of Monrose (the girl group formed by the 2006 series of "Popstars" in Germany) performed at the Comet Awards in 2009.

While writing this comment, I found out that the Comet Awards haven't been held since 2012. Really disappointed to hear that. I enjoyed watching VIVA's build up to them every year, and watching the LIVE performances from the big night.
And I am even more disappointed that Viacom are closing down ▼▲▼▲ at the end of December. It was my favourite music channel for many years (back in the days when Gülcan Karahancı and Collien Fernandes were the main presenters). But, I haven't watched it since about 2010. It was already going downhill by then because of "reality" shows, so I dread to think what it is like now. (Probably similar to what MTV is now like over here - no music at all! :disapp: )
Really hope the channel gets a big send off. After 25 years on air, it deserves it.

FINALLY! For nigh on 20 years I have been looking for a particular recording of a song, and I've finally found it!
When I was on holidays in Cyprus in 1999 (and any time since, in fact), this was the version that was always being played on BFBS Radio. But, I have never heard it anywhere else since. And no amount of searching for "La Vida Loca Long Version", "La Vida Loca Extended Version", etc. was coming up with it.
But, it only dawned on me this morning to look up the track listing on the Single, and copy the names. And I found it pretty much straight away!

And just for the record, here is the Spanish version:

This week I have been watching The Voice: Kids (UK ver), and absolutely adored this kid Yaroslav. He auditioned for the The Voice Kids Russia, but he was apparently passed over by the judges.

During the semis, he had a sore throat, and couldn't sing as he wanted. When it was over he was clearly unhappy. Later when it came for his coach to pick who went through, he had already given up on himself. It was emotional. He was very shocked when Will picked him. Instantly congratulated the two who couldn't go through on their performances.

He looked a lot happier in the live Final. He said it was because Will believed in him. He didn't win. But I think he gained a lot from his experience.

I wasn't watching it, because I never liked the format of The Voice. For me, the Battle Round is unnecessary and cruel. Because you could have 2 brilliant singers up against each other, and only 1 goes through. And then the next two battling it out could be just average singers.
Ironically, though, the past few days I have been looking up old videos from a different children's talent show, the Kiddy Contest. It is an Austrian singing contest that has been going since 1995.
Now, I knew that 2 singers who went on to be in bands/groups I like had had their first taste of fame in the Kiddy Contest:
- Mandy Capristo (Winner of 2001 edition) who went on to be a member of the group formed by Popstars in 2006, Monrose.
- Christina Klein (6[SUP]th[/SUP] in 2004 edition) who went on to become the lead singer of rock band LaFee.
However, I had only ever seen a video of Christina's performance before. So, when I heard Mandy was going to be singing the anthem at the Formula 1 race yesterday, I decided to see if I could find her performance too.

Now, as you can see, the normal lyrics of the songs have been replaced by specially written German lyrics. But, as I had only seen Christina's video before, I hadn't realised that this was actually part of the format of the contest. I thought Christina was just being clever!
Anyway, I have since been looking up other contestants from down the years. And have found some other names that you may recognise:

I’m not even sure how to categorize this. At first I wasn’t sure if I even liked it but as the song unfolded I just found myself more and more drawn into it and her voice. FYI: This song takes almost 2 minutes to truly get going. I’d be curious to hear any feedback on this song and artist if anyone should feel compelled to share.
