What programs do you find consoling?

I like to watch Artur Gachinski's 2011 Worlds LP. Just to remember that that is the skater I fell in love with, and that is the skater I know he can be again - playful, free, fun, charismatic, clean and solid and lovely.

This set, along with Lyra Angelica 1998 Nationals, would be what I would watch
skateluvr, In lieu of flowers, please accept the following programs as a celebration of your mom's life?

Janet Lynn, who felt her skating was from God, and a gift to the rest of us, respresenting God's promise

Michelle's 1998 East of Eden. Nothing forced, very elegant. And the music is quietly soothing. I'm sorry to hear about your mother.

I'm confused...who's mother are we talking about. I'm very sorry for your loss. Is it Skateluvr? Haven't been on the board all day so I think I missed something.

I think Michelle's East of Eden program is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I love that piece of music anyway but the choreography, her facial expressions, her softness on the ice - all together were perfect!

Skateluvr, I've been thinking of you and sending prayers today.

I know these programs are meant for you, but I confess to having watched them, too. I hope you don't mind.

They are wonderful, and they remind me that our sport can provide beauty, laughs, thrills and excitement, and, yes, consolation in our darkest hours.

God bless you.

As usual, I drift off topic by including music. Skateluvr, I thought of this on my way home, and it's one of the most sublime pieces of music ever: Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis."

I don't know whether any of you are familiar with the Narnia books. Sometimes several of my friends and I try to come up with music that best embodies each character. To me, this is Aslan's music.

Skateluvr, if you listen to it, I hope it brings you the refreshment and solace it brings me.

So sorry for your loss Skateluvr. Here is another Janet Lynn program that never fails to move me with the ethereal quality of her skating.

When I watch these performances, it just makes me feel like there's a higher power. They're not all consoling but certainly gripping and bring out lots of feeling and emotion--happiness, wistfulness, etc.

Michelle Kwan "Kissing You" 2000
Lu Chen "Butterfly Lovers" 1998
Sasha Cohen "Moonlight Sonata" 2009 (the original, not her retooled competitive LP from 2010)
Natalia Mishkutienok and Artur Dmitriev "Liebestraum" 1992
Kristi Yamaguchi & Denis Petrov "One Day I'll Fly Away" 2002 (STUNNING! One of the most beautiful pairs skates I've ever seen--every lift, every spin! And it's only SOI.)
Meryl Davis and Charlie White "Die Fledermaus" 2012
