Posting my favorite performance piece of hers… not a comp.. to Billie Eillish “Lovely”..
Though there are jumps they don’t dominate the performance; I watch it for the excellent moves and music interpretation alone. I especially love the abrupt from “sad to fight” change in rhythm at 2:31

I wouldn't mind cutting out, say, a jump element in general. Jumps are the part of skating I am perhaps least interested in (not saying much, considering how much I like skating in general - jumps are still awesome).

I wouldn't minimize the rotations, like, turning quads to triples or triples to doubles, but taking out a whole element while keeping the difficulty of the others would be fine with me to allow more expressive moments.

Let's say he had other reasons :slink: BTW now he needs to come up with other ways of getting his deduction than bombing jumps and injuring himself. Maybe a costume deduction? :laugh4: Scathering something on ice?
 
I think we could ask the same question about many aspects of skating. Could someone do a program with no gliding on an edge? Could someone do a program with no steps and turns? Could someone do a program with no spins?

If they did, would it really be a figure skating program?

It depends.
In example, there are TV shows like Dancing With Stars on Ice in many countries. Sometimes it happens that the involved celebrity has started skating, like, two weeks ago and, of course, the choice of steps and turns is rather limited. However, with some help from the partner and some stretch of imagination, it will work as a figure skating program :)
 
The best shows of that type that I have seen were the Canadian offerings that paired a figure skater or ice dancer with a famous hockey player. Of course the hockey players could already skate and quite a few of them displayed a lot of musicality and showmanship as well. :)

and... sometimes, they did do throw jumps :) (it's called or was called battle of the blades)
 
That's an interesting show idea indeed. I looked up some videos on YouTube. Visually, it looked not that much about figure skating as about hockey players having fun time. But, since the star sport in this show is ice hockey and figure skaters are dancing with (sigh, let's be honest with ourselves), that's the very thing. It would rock in Latvia, an ice hockey crazy country, too... if we had more and better figure skaters, sigh again.

The most recent season of BOTB (2020) was actually pretty impressive in terms of figure skating technical content.

I think this was the best 'ice dance'-like team so far in the show, especially in terms of the hockey player's skating skills.

This was one of the best 'pair' style teams. Vanessa James and her hockey partner also did a triple throw (flip) on the show, I can't remember which episode though. But I think Meagan and Wojtek here meshed better component-wise.

ETA Here is Vanessa James and her hockey partner's routine. They also attempted double twist.

He is a lesser known skater who is not going to EC and Worlds this season. That's why I'll share his competitive programs from British Championships to give you an idea whom I am talking about. Sorry for the jumps that are still there :slink:

Great suggestion - I was at British Champs last weekend, and thought Freddie's programmes were great - really interesting and unique.

BTW, if you're able to stream UK TV, then BBC iplayer has a great documentary, "Freeze" about British ice skaters - Freddie is one of those featured. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0bjjz8q/freeze
