did anybody tune in? i put it on during commericals of the ESPN's broadcast of the GPF (which didn't have many commericals happily!)

Evan performed twice, he looked realy comfortable and relaxed... Kimmie did a nice number... I saw Brian B. Pretty good show, except that as usual the camera showed too mcuh of the singers and not enough skating.

Caught the last hour and a quarter. I was impressed by Kimmie -- she looked so poised, I thought, and is really gaining a "quality" to her skating, IMHO.

You're too right, tho, there was much too much focus on the singers -- often the crowd would gasp and you'd know you'd just missed a jump or other highlight element.

Liked it better than I thought I would ... Brian still looks happy and confident, Rudy looked well. Evan had a good skate, the one I saw. ...

I taped it while I watched the GPF! I hope to watch it later this evening...if I ever finish the holiday baking!

I agree about Meissner- her first piece was the first time I've really seen her attempt to translate her personality onto the ice. She should come up with a short program that does the same.

I do think there was a little too much of Wynona shown during Meissner's second piece, though- especially at the end.

And another thing I would like to mention- anyone catch the ads for US Nationals? These guys are already doing a far better job at promotion and exposure than ESPN/ABC, and it's not even January yet. There was also a "US Figure Skating" segment where Kimmie talked about her preparedness for Nationals. I don't think there's a better time to ramp up promotion than now, although I think USFS needs to do more on its end. How about trying Youtube? Advertise the Ice Network on there if they're not already doing so.

Was that a 3F-3L combo from Meissner in the fluff about her? What did you guys think of it? I thought it looked pretty good, perhaps underrotated, but I'm glad she learned it, and I think it already looks better than the 3/3s she's been doing thus far in competition.

Yes, RD, absolutely caught the really top-notch promo for nationals, with Peggy talking about how meaningful the title was, then the sound bytes about it coming up again in January. Nice work!

From the 15 seconds I saw of Brian skating while Wynonna sang, he looked very strong to me.

Seriously, I have every line of her face and every one of her perfectly formed porcelain veneers (sp?) etched in my memory forever! How many different facial contortions of a singer do you have to watch while there is perfectly good skating going on at the same time?!?!!

The same was true of Brian's show Saturday. Too much of Barry Manilow's botoxed immobilized mouth and not enough BRIAN! ( love Barry Manilow, but sheesh!)

I have seen ads for Nationals starting with Kristi's show. I am glad that they are starting it early. Hopefully more people will tune in.

honestly I don't think it will make much (if any) difference in the ratings. The same people that watch these shows will likely be skating fans who will watch Nationals ANYWAY.

More promotion is good but it doesn't always equal more viewers. Look at NASCAR. ABC and ESPN practically hyped it to the hills and they are still experiencing a ratings decline from last year. (according to SMW)

That said, it's nice to see a network paying more than just a passing thought of attention to a non-Olympic FS event on TV.

I now have Boitano's and this special on one tape, and will squeeze the Tuesday show on to the rest of it (it's in the extended play mode, so I can record a full six hours on to it). Once that is recorded, I will watch the whole thing and fast forward through all the commercials and fluff pieces.

I enjoyed the show. Less of Wyona would have been better. I thought Kimmie was fabulous. She is now bringing maturity and style to her skating and I like it. She connects with the audience, has great edges and speed and her jumps looked spot on. Her arm movements have improved drastically, she knows how to use them now. Nice to see Brian, Joannie and Amber too.
