Women and the Quad

Elizabeth is officially the third woman to land a Quad in ISU competition(also the third to land Salchow) and the first senior women who did it.

Sadly, if Tursynbaeva is known for one thing, it's for failing to rise to the occasion when she's perfectly capable of doing so... :scard8:

I replied (after Universiade):
Er... right. :slink:

Pardon me for repeating myself... um... :)

She's got a silver medal at Worlds to show for it! Congrats to her! :cheer:

Better see it from this angle https://youtu.be/JHB58ApmJ04?t=341 - what a beautiful jump :cool2: Even despite she had not exactly perfect exit from the jump - I am surprised it received so small GOE. I mean - Nathan had very similar exit from his 4Lz in WC2019 SP - and had huge GOE for it
Still, comgratulations for Eteri - she just managed to put ISU in a trap singlehandedly  Even if they will decide to raise the age to prevent prepuberty girls domination via quads - it would just mean Tursynbaeva domination without any competition to boot (since her body and height is tremendously rare for 18+ age). I have no doubt that they will put atleast two quads for her in FP next season - and a possible 3A in SP. In would be impossible to compete with it for 18+ ladies with their more standart bodies since I don't believe in postpuberty ladies quads, tbh - UNLESS you have physical traits like Tursynbaeva. In some sense you could call her "Simone Biles" of senior figure skating

It's also possible that it will be the only 4S Elizabet ever lands in competition, so I don't know if trying to upgrade to two quads is worth the risk. Already, her 3S-3T in the bonus earned more points than her 4S so there's probably other modifications she could look into before needing to add a second quad.

Considering that she began to place 4S in program only couple of months before - it's very good result. Trusova and Scherbakova both trained their quads more than a year to make them more or less stable - so Tursynbaeva success rate now I see as a very promising sign. I am sure her 4S will become much more stable after summer training camps. Also quads are always extremely useful point-wise since they can replace the more cheap jumps allowing to put more expensive combinations in second half.

I think there is room for a 3A but maybe i hope too much. Her 2A is not bad.

She said she started landing the Quad Sal 2 weeks before Four Continents, so that's around late January which was barely two months ago. If she is to add another quad it would be to replace a 2A (assume she is able to tack the +3T combo somewhere else). A fully rotated quad fall is worth 4.85-1.00=3.85 which is equivalent to a 2A with +2 GOE so it definitely worths the risk.

You are forgetting the +REP that will come with not being able to land it in combination a second time. She would need to ensure her first 4S is landed in combination, else she loses another 30% of 4.85 = 1.455, leading to a score of 2.40 (give or take).

Raf sounds jealous, and it's black envy, unlike Orser, who reacts on the success of other coaches and athletes with respect and dignity.

Raf allows himself very sexist statement in his recent interview - basically saying that he doesn't like Tursynbaeva's quads success because she has childish body  And thus, seniors age still should be raised (regardless of the fact that Elizabeth is 19 already) :drama::laugh:

Silly statement really, as he should know next season there will be at least two new senior skaters capable of quad jumps.

Well he's not wrong. For a 19 year old Lil Bet's body is very much that of a 12 or 13 year old and that undoubtedly helps her with rotating the quad. However, she's the exception as the majority of 19 year olds do not look like her. Give credit where it is due. She landed it and it was done well.

Honestly I don't see the ISU raising the age limit at this point. I think if the quad girls come in and dominate next season the topic will come up again but I still don't see anything changing. The women's field is moving toward more 3As and quads. People are going to have to catch up or get left behind. Simple as that.

It's a strange critique for him to make. Nathan isn't exactly Sylvester Stallone out there on the ice. Certain body types just lend themselves to rotating fast.

Raised to what? Does he think she's still growing at age 19? That's very rare in females.
