Pair skaters Wang Xuehan (Chinese: 王雪涵) & Wang Lei (simplified Chinese: 王磊; traditional Chinese: 王磊) represent China. Xuehan was born on Jun 1, 1998 in Beijing, China, while Lei was born on July 11, 1988 in Harbin, China.

They are the 2016 Chinese National champions.

This pair stands out from the crowd. She has such amazing charisma and natural performing ability, she just grabs my attention at the first sight. The pair has great chemistry. I'm falling in love with this pair, and I expect to see great things happen to them.

Anybody feels the same way?

Yes, I like them. I first saw them last year when they just began the cooperation for one year. At that time they already looked incredibly good. The girl used to be noticed as a promising single skater featuring in excellent presentation several years ago when she was about ten or twelve. But in the following years she has been struggled to finish a triple loop or Flip or Lutz. It's quite a surprising news that she finally decided to swift to pairs and pair with Lei Wang. They are quite fortunate because Hongbo Zhao began to work as a coach at the same year. Hope the new group can make progress with the new coach.

CoC is the first time I saw them skating, and in fact, the first time I ever saw Xuehan at all. I saw Lei Wang with ex partner but didn't pay much attention before. Lucky girl to get a good start from the very beginning in pair skating.

They definitely earned their spot at COC and I am glad they did. Their name was not on the entries till about month ago. Finally coach Yao Bin proved his choice was not bad at all, even the pairing of Peng/Zhang.

Yes, I agree. She has such a cute face. Such a joyful smile on her face. Lovely chemistry and connection between her and partner throughout the program. Chinese teams used to be criticised for lack of artistry but these new young ones are showing such chemistry, artistry and interpretation of music. Of course, all the technical elements are to die for as well. Very impressed with all of them - Peng/Zhang, Wang/Wang and Sui/Han. The girls are rather small in stature but the guys do such a good job in watching them and holding them through the technical elements. Also loved how Peng/Zhang is developing. Zhang who used to skate with Dan Zhang is now doing a great job in growing his young partner. You can tell he is so sweet towards her being the experienced skater. If you listen to the British commentary which is my favorite commentators, they praised the way Peng has so grown in her posture & carriage.

Are Sui/Han coached by another coach, or is Yao Bin still the Chinese pairs programs head coach? It'll be interesting to see how the politicking goes for the 2nd spot-- I prefer Peng/Zhang for this Olympics. But I see Wang/Wang or Yu/Jin outshining both P/Z and S/H-- just prefer the pairs with better lines/extension.

Hongbo Zhao is now very involved with coaching these younger pairs. He was at the boards with Peng & Zhang. I expect that some of the improvements the young teams have had is due to his work, both on the ice, and in structuring their days.

Wang & Wang's Singing in the Rain program was such fun.

And Peng & Zhang's quadrupe twist is amazing, as is her run out in throw jumps, and the distance she gets in them.

Sui & Han have better basic skating than they did before her injury.

Yes, Hongbo Zhao is the Chief coach of pairs, coaching all national team pairs except P/T. He is responsible for all the training but he said he also consult with Bin Yao. Coach Bin Yao is the Coach-General (?) for figure skating. The training strategies are definitely different under Hongbo with new emphases on details and program compositions. Hongbo said sometimes the skaters feel impatient as they thought that they've done good enough while Hongbo still trying to correct small details. I guess they would give it a second thought after seeing what the pay-off those "nit-picking" have.

China now has a transparent rule for olympic selection. one best domestic event result (30%)+ one best international (70%) . Although there have been media coverage favoring P/Z, Hongbo said recently that the rules will be followed strictly, whoever score higher gets to go.

Right now P/Z had a better domestic score, S/H higher international score, with P/Z having higher total. But S/H was seriously injured during the national GP, so they should have an improved national score later on. It's hard to tell right now. It will lay out clearer after NHK.

So amazing how improved all the Chinese pairs are! I seriously have enjoyed all their performances so far!

Wang & Wang were a real treat. Sui now has a rival in the "skating with joy and euphoria department" in Wang.

Thank you Mrs. P. I agree. I have watched all the 'pairs' from Cup of China. Loved the Chinese teams - artistry & athleticism. I watched their performances over and over again. What a breathe of fresh air these young Chinese teams are. The expression on Wang's face - just gorgeous!! Peng's carriage & posture remind me so much of Xue Shen's - only a sign of great things to come! Peng is also so secure in all the landings of her throws - just great! The team that I found 'boring' unfortunately was Savchenko/Solkowy. Though they won gold - they were technically predictable and their artistry was 'OK'. I didn't see any 'sparkle' in their performance at all. They looked solemn and tentative . Have to force myself to watch the rest of S/S programs while I could watch 'Singing in the rain' over and over again. S/S LP's music had been used by Shen/Zhao in 2008 I believe and Shen/Zhao skated a far superior program.

Just learned that Xuehan Wang is the first figure skater paid by her parents instead of the government to reach National level! She belongs to a private Beijing skating club Shi ji xing, Centry Star Or Stars of the Centry. She was a single skater and had some decent results in national level competition when she was younger and just paired up with Lei Wang about a year ago! She was reportedly chosen as one of the girls to be sent to US but preferred not to go (don't know if this is true). instead she went to a normal school and train part time at her own expense. The part of school going is true for sure. It looks like she paired up with Lei Wang in May 2012, and likely has put school on hold.

I think this pair is underrrated. Hard to believe given they medaled on both their GPs last year, but it's true. No one is really talking about them - the attention is on the other Chinese pairs, seems like. One thing I appreciate about this team versus the other pairs is Xuehan Wang's expressiveness. She really shows a lot of emotion in her face when she skates.

I guess the lack of attention last year couldn't be helped, really. China has a really deep field with the other pairs also giving quality performances. The fact that P/T came back for 4cc and worlds didn't help either. S/H and P/Z went to worlds, of course, and Y/J were eligible for junior worlds(though i'm still annoyed they couldn't go to senior w). W/W were not age eligible for junior worlds, and China doesn't do senior b's(unfortunately), so they kind of were forgotten, although they're easily one of the top 10 pairs in the world. Anyways, I'm glad they have two GPs again(though it's not a surprise if you consider their SB score ofc), and I just hope they skate amazing in those two events.

Will be interesting to see who China sends to Worlds this year!

S/H and P/Z are a given and most likely will skip nats to prepare for 4CC and Worlds while Y/J and W/W will duke it out again. Y/J have more momentum at the moment and they're the reigning junior world champs again so sadly I doubt they'll send W/W anywhere unless Y/J bomb their gps and nationals. Point is, give four spots to the Chinese pairs already, they need it badly.
