Yu/Jin & Peng/Zhang switch partners

I still think that the federation is very short-sighted.
I think that Yu/Zhang is their solid plan B, almost A1 if Sui/Han would not handle the pressure. Because I think if everything goes well Sui/Han are going to be their number 1 for upcoming Olympics. And Chinese medicine is a well known asset for Team China in every sport, they can do wonders sometimes. I mean we've seen Pang/Tong skating with terrible injuries and still medalling (of course before ultra elements made their effort less valid for medalling).
So... I think they are going to push big elements with Yu/Zhang. It is not going to be easy for them.

^But the claimed goal is 2022. Even if we accept the ISU age for Zhang, he'll be 37 years old! He's already been injured, he's just not going to last that long. His other age would put him at 40 for 2022, and that's just beyond ridiculous. It's insanely short-sighted.

I agree, my bet would be on Peng/Jin in 2022.

Let me put my bet on Yu/Jin then.:dev3:

If he will be able to perform according to 2022 technical requirements (those that guarantee top 3 placement at Oly or Worlds) then he is going to compete. Come on, his job is not as tough as a single skater one. If he can jump at 37- and he only needs thriples, make lifts (and he needs to have a lightweight, well trained and very flexible partner (which is no problem according to Chinese Federation current decisions;)) and do throws (and Mr. Zhang is a tough guy, 37 is a good age for throwing light and regal;) girls)- then what are we all talking about, eh? It doesn't matter how he is looking according to our judgemental (very judgemental!) viewpoints, if he can- he can. Plus ancient Chinese medicine we know almost nothing about. With all due respect.:dev3:
OR- and we forget one more thing: if he can bring China Olympic spots and be a valuable asset for Team Event- then he may not be needed to place top 3 by himself- his achievements could be used for those reasons. Team Event is going to be an all veterans event I bet.

Just saw their new program and Peng actually emotes the hell out the performance! I guess it's official that Zhang sucks the emotion out of his every partner

I haven’t had the heart to look at them yet, especially if Yu looks sad (and that’s before they’ve started learning the quad throw, which they’d have to do to become one of the top world pairs). Moreover, I’m very sad for Yu/Jin’s coach who has trained and then lost such a wonderful pair just as they became no. 2 in China. And she didn’t even get any replacement, as it appears that Hongbo Zhao is training both Yu/Zhang and Peng/Yang now, right?

yeah, Yu looked like she hadn't slept for DAYS... my gosh! Hao Zhang looks like a truck driver beside the dedicate Yu. I am not sorry for my words.

I think Peng/Jin is getting so many compliments is because Peng doesn't look like a kid beside Jin. That was always my feeling when watching Peng/Zhang but now with Jin she looks youthful rather than childish.

I hope that Yu finds happiness in her skating despite the unfortunate situation she had no control over. While she does look very much like royalty, I didn't see any spark or energy.

I actually do not see any spark or expression from Yu with either partner. She is rather stone faced. Just my opinion. And I just watched some of her competitions with Jin and she actually isn't that strong of a jumper. But I do feel bad for the girl. Must be hard to be forced to switch partners as I don't know the alternatives. Is it to quit skating? If she doesn't want to quit, she should just try to make the best of skating with her new partner. Besides, I think she matches well with Zhang, they have better height difference. But boy, if she's been skating with Jin since they were children, it really is a shame to force the split on her. The situation is unfair. But what can she do? At the same time, I see a lot of potential with Jin and Peng and from their first exhibition together, think they are lovely, finally, a nice looking Chinese pairs team whose skating I'd like to watch now.

And then they are going to find another 15 (12 in secret) - years old girl for daddy Zhang after dismissing Yu :slink:

I think that this isn't easy for Zhang either. I mean, he very likely has always been considered to be a desirable partner and somehow his new partner would prefer her old partner. And I always got the impression that he's a nice, caring guy. So I think that he'll work hard on his relationship with Yu.

I don't think the issue is Hao Zhang, even if he's a nice guy, he can't do anything with a partner who doesn't have chemistry with him. Chinese fed or whoever made the decision is so...

Finally watched the exhibition and the new SPs of both Peng/Jin and Hao/Yu.

My bet is on Peng/Jin doing well this season, they both looked happy to be skating together and Peng was solid!! Yeah, I agree, I haven't seen Peng enjoyed herself so much in a skate till now. This is still early in the season, given more practice and time, this can be a solid and very presentable SP.

Hao/Yu, to be honest, they were technically better (just slightly) than Peng/Jin in terms of speed and the split twist but.....there is no 'connection'. I agree with others here that Yu looked like she hasn't slept for days, she looked terribly pale. It will be interesting how the judges see them.

The 4 person ex on the song 'Say Something' - why or why? Why would you do that? Honestly, who come up with that idea? It was simply awful and a punch on my face as a fan of Yu/Jin. Plus, the music choice, 'Say Something'..........really? Well 'Say Something' indeed!! If the skaters were really allowed to 'say something'. How about 'don't say anything'. Just awful to watch...........:noshake:

Here are clips of Yu/Zhang and Peng/Jin's new FS uploaded on a Chinese site.

I hope that at this point, no figure skating fans would be surprised by their partner switching although this new would be still very brand new info to some until they actually appear to perform in the GP series and 4CC or even Worlds considering casual fans. Yu/Zhang is assigned to Skate Canada and Cup of China while Peng/Jin's assignments to Cup of China and NHK Trophy. Funnily to say this to myself, my initial shock was moderated as time went by.

Yeah, one snoozefest and a bigger snoozefest...

I still think Peng & Jin seem to have more potential. There's more of a connection IMO, and she looks so much better than ever before. It's good that at least their SP is fun!

I do not agree. Yu/Zhang technical potential is big. She is a wonderful skater and her landings are so smooth. Hao Zhang has maybe not the best skating skill but he has so much experience and power. I think they will go for the quad twist and better indiviual jumps soon. Maybe 2A+3T as he did with zhang.

He and Aljona are pair skating history and the only athletes who competed already in salt lake city 2002!

Their technical potential might be huge, but their lack of emotional connection bothers me. They are just so boring to watch!
