Yu/Jin & Peng/Zhang switch partners

if this is true i think the Chinese Federation should bud out. And maybe Zhang who was already lucky to get an oly silver in paritcular and teh Chinese Federation should take some advice from that Disney classic move and just LET IT GO!!!!!

This possibility seems a little too ridiculous to be true, but considering the choices the Chinese Fed has made in the past.....

Honestly, in my opinion, anyone with common sense wouldn't make this decision especially this close to the 2018 games. China might be trying to focus on the 2022 games, but even so, that wouldn't make much sense either. Yu/Jin have had a lot of success as a team, being 2 time World Junior champions and making the Grand Prix Final two consecutive times in their first two years as seniors. Peng/Zhang didn't do that bad last year either. I can't even imagine them switching partners at this point... They'd be quite incompatible as their styles are both so different.

:laugh2: I haven't seen the animation film yet, but have a sudden urge to watch it.

But I am sure Yu/Jin would be treated 100 times better lol

Thinking of Takahashi/Tran's unfortunate case, no. Only singles are popular in Japan, so the Japanese federation didn't care Takahashi and her new partner to get funded. On the other hand, Tran became to represent USA with a new partner. I just hope Yu/Jin's coach and federation really think hard because Yu/Jin forms a great partnership already.

I respect Zhang he is a great jumper and lifter... but his throws are really scary! I don't want Xiaoyu to get more injured:sad21:, also are they sure she is a much better jumper than Cheng Peng anyway?
This is very puzzling and depressing

IMO Peng's problem is on the mental part more than on the technics part, she was so young when she was picked to pair with the Olympic medalist, how much pressure the girl has gone through, no one can imagine.

Maybe it's a good decision for Peng, which can turn down the pressure for her a bit...

Some fan close to the athletes said Jin agreed but YU doesn't want to skate with Zhang, so she has no partner at the moment....,,,

What a drama!

When I read the headline the first thing I thought was, ok, wow, they want to give Peng Cheng a chance to develop. She's still the youngest of them (I suppose she really is the youngest, despite those age controversies). It's still only rumours and we don't know what's going on in the background anyway. Maybe more than one skater is wanting this change. Maybe the fed believes in Peng Cheng and in Jin Yang. Just my thoughts ...

I know that many do not like him, and insult his physique and age... (which I find crass btw). but he is a great partner... most girls, young or less young will benefit from the experience of working with a living legend.

I don't want to insult him, but his physique and age are good reasons why it doesn't look beneficial for Yu to switch to skating with him.

And also, the main problem is still how un-supportive he looks of Peng. He throws her out there like a potato sack and then acts like he doesn't care when she has to take a hard fall. Seriously, her falls were by far the scariest of the ones I've seen in practices, and most often than not, he doesn't seem to care to look after her. Maybe this is just my impression, but I don't think so. And I'm pretty sure any young pairs lady would feel better if her partner showed a bit of interest in her health.

I have to agree, he looked far more supportive when he skated with Zhang Dan. And he was used to throw a tall woman.

Mr. Zhang has had his time the sun; I never found him that extraordinary.

I disagree; he hasn't had his time in the sun, because he's never had partner worthy of him. He's always been held back. I could see SO many times when he was with the "other Zhang" how he kept wanting to break out and skate with abandon, but he never could because she was such a blank slate. The frustration was palpable on his face. And now for the past few years he's been with a young girl who was hoped to be able to grow into a star worthy of his talents, but it hasn't happened. She makes so many mistakes.

I want to see how he can skate when he has a partner who can keep up with him. At his "old age" he is still very consistent!

Please say this isn't true!

Do the skating gods not think we've had enough drama this Olympic cycle with Ilinykh / Katsalapov and Sinitsina / Zhiganshin swapping partners; Moore-Towers / Moscovitch and Purdy / Marinaro breaking up; the whole Savchenko / Szolkowy and Popova / Massot affair; and Takahashi and Tran finding it impossible to re-create their magic with successive new partners after red tape put an end to their brilliant partnership???!!!

I cannot understand why the Chinese Federation would want to do this. Yes, Zhang Hao will probably be looking at retiring in the next few years, leaving Peng Cheng looking a new partner. But, why split up a very good partnership now just to give her one?!

OK, so Peng / Zhang have had a disappointing season compared to last season. But, I have my own theory about this, which I brought up during the GP Final. (See here for my post, the replies on the next page, my later reply here, and Tastetherainbow's reply to it here)

If it is delayed puberty, giving Cheng a new partner now won't suddenly get her back to the form she had last season. If anything, it will set her back further as she will be learning a new partner at the same time. And it will probably destroy her confidence in the process.

No, better for Cheng and Hao to stay together for now, until her body has settled down and he decides to call it a day.

Yu / Jin are a proven partnership. They have had a good season. There is no sensible reason to split them up. Unless of course they aren’t getting along.

A few months ago in the Riga Cup Pairs SP thread, I brought up the fact that Xie Zhong goes through partners like I don’t know what (my first post here; conversation continues over the next few pages). Now, I assumed that it was Zhong expecting instant success, or else being hard to work with, that was behind him constantly changing partners. But as the conversation progressed, the suggestion came up (from breathesgelatin and Hyena) that maybe it was the Chinese Federation that was behind it.

As I said at the time, I don’t like it when Federations interfere in partnerships. So, I really hope that this is not what is going on here.

By the way, does anybody know what Peng Cheng’s former partner, Zhang Tianci, is doing now? Is he still skating, or has he retired?

I want Hao Zhang to have a good partner too! But not Yu. Yu has a partner she likes already. Leave her alone><

I have to respectfully disagree with the commenters suggesting that Hao is not supportive of Peng and appears uncaring. I always found the opposite, that he was always quite positive at the end of a programme where she had fallen again, that he has comforted her and kept smiling coming off the ice and I observed this support during practice at worlds so know it's not a fake impression I got from the veneer of TV coverage. I'm a Hao Zhang fan, yes, but this rumour does indeed seem a tad perplexing...

Well, granted, it's a circus-on-ice. But still, it's kinda sad...He and Peng used to make a good pair...

Ah!

I thought he had re-trained and was doing the tight rope or something!

But, with the way things are going in Pairs at the moment, it is starting to have the feel of a circus.

It seems the clowns have been put in charge of partnership decisions...
