Yu/Jin & Peng/Zhang switch partners

I should clarify I have no ill will towards Zhang but I just think he has had plenty of chances and has been given breaks. Just like I don't think Mao has really had it harder or been treated harshly copared to other skaters. It is just my observations. I didn't like the way I saw Zhang treat his partner when I saw them practising. I also don't think it is fair to Y/J Besides I am not sure if there is enough time. Maybe the Chinese SF is panicking a bit after worlds. But this is just a sport and sometimes we forget that.

Leaving aside the obvious atmosphere between them which can't have helped her, listen to any commentator and they will tell you that the man is responsible for the throws. He chucked Peng into throws no one had any hope of landing, and then neither he or the coaches showed any concern, even when she hit her head at TEB.
Reading this I remember a few lines in Gordeeva's book where she wrote that she was always glad that Grinkov never tried to hurt her when they did the throw. That he was very patient with her. It sounded as if, in many partnerships, the male skater would get so frustrated with the female skater that he actually would throw her too far or in the wrong direction so that she would have to take a bad fall. Troubling.

Peng is no longer "much smaller" than Zhang. I was shocked at Worlds to see just how tall she has grown. Her head now reaches nearly to his shoulder.

Jin is a bit smaller than Zhang, so the switch between the two team sounds more implausible.

I doubt that this was their decision, someone had to push them.

Why are you trying to blame Zhang for Peng's mistakes and for wanting a better partner.

It's like trying to blame Trankov in his previous pairing and say he was "ruining Ukranian figure skating" by taking Tatiana away.

Sorry but no.
I think you are forgetting about one very important detail: Yu does not want to switch. But according to you it is a good idea, because Zhang wants and because he has talent.

Sorry, but no to your reasoning

I don't care what kind of medals this Yu/Zhang team's gonna bring. This partnership is built on lies and threats. Yu has no idea this is going to happen before she heads to Canada. She thinks she and Jin are getting new programs and feels quite excited. And now she's trapped in Canada, being pressured into a partnership with an old man. Yu doesn't want it, and that should be the end of the discussion. But no... Chinese Fed seems to fly people out to Canada to make Yu change her mind, people she feels close to. That is SHADY!

Their throw technique is a very Chinese technique, they try to throw huge. I don't personally know enough about the specifics but it doesn't seem to be more off than what we've seen in the past?

yeah, it's a good technique. go ahead and throw huge. just don't throw her in the damn boards. you know who had huge chinese throws? pang and tong. did tong ever throw his partner in the boards? no. zhang can do his huge throws, but it sure is no sign of genius to always do that a couple of meters from the boards. it's not like there is no better place for that on the huge ice rink. also, he threw all of his partners into the boards. maybe he should fix something about himself? maybe it's not them, but him.

edit: also, zhang's oly silver was not really his, it was earned by his female partner's act of bravery.

Also, it is extremely unlikely to be a rumour. Yu/Jin's fans launch a "Object to splitting Yu and Jin" campaign on micro-blog. Yu clicked the "Like" button.

Wow, lots of hate for older skaters in this thread.

If Zhang is healthy and wants to be competing, I don't blame the Chinese fed for supporting him...to a certain extent. I don't mind that they want him to keep competing and with a good partner, although I disagree that they have promoted P/Z over a better pair. I understand their desire to pair him up with a lady who is more consistent than Peng, though I do feel bad for Peng. He's consistent on SBS jumps, great lifter, and pretty decent at everything else. US pairs would kill to have a guy like Zhang.

Even so, it's incredibly shortsighted for Chinese fed to break up Y/J. Big mistake in the long term, I believe. Still, there's no need to hurl insults at him for wanting to continue to show his talent in competition.

Yup, I noticed that too. Quite a bit of ageism and also hate being directed personally with certain unfair presumptions being made. Uncool.

But ,there are some real information?

Because I've only read a first message with a speculation made by someone who does not give sources and all other messages are just insults to the Chinese Federation and personal insults to Zhang.

I try to sum it up for myself:
The Chinese Fed wants to change those partnerships. We assume that Zhang wants to change partners and it seems obvious that Yu doesn't.
Does anyone know/heard rumours about what Peng and Jin want?
Do we have any information from David Wilson or Lori Nichol?

Could you provide a link to that page?

If you can read Chinese and have a Sina micro-blog account, log onto Sina Weibo, find Yu's account "神谜小雨", on her page you can see all the posts she "Liked". One of them is that campaign against the splitting of her and Jin. Maybe you don't need your own account, idk. Just google "Sina Weibo" and find her page.

I know someone asks DW about this on his social media, but he doesn't answer.

Here's the thing about sensitive news in China: if you wait for it to be "real", it's a conclusion, a done deal. No protest or campaign is gonna reverse the "real" news. That's why the fans are still trying when there's no official news. Because the official news is a decision no one can shake.
