Yu/Jin & Peng/Zhang switch partners

It's not like the Chinese skaters are Guo Jingjing. Now she's rich.
But they're comparatively well off. And they can travel the World.
This may sound unfeeling, but they're getting paid for what they're doing and we all know that at work we sometimes have to work together with people we don't really want to work with, even in the "free" World. As long as everyone involved is treated with respect I'm fine with it. And we don't know yet what the results are going to be and what all skaters involved really think of it. I'm trying to be open minded. :coffee:

Most jobs don't require you to be in constant physical contact with a partner, day in and day out, and put your health & personal well-being at risk by doing so. There's a big difference between sharing an office with someone you don't get along with and letting them throw you across an ice rink (especially when you've seen what the last partner went through). To be ripped from a partner you trust and respect & worked well with for years, and given to a much older man with whom you have no chemistry? That's not being treated with respect.

All true, but you assume that Yu and Zhang don't get along. When I wrote that I'm trying to be open minded I meant also that I wouldn't assume such a thing just yet. And humans tend to try to make the best out of situations, even bad situations. So I think it's very likely that they will get along. Same goes for Peng and Jin.
Will we get a pair with the chemistry of Yu/Jin? Of course not. It will be a different thing. Could it be good? Yes of course.

How is Yu supposed to get along with Zhang when she's apparently the the most opposed to the switch.

That she'd prefer to continue to skate with Jin doesn't mean that she can't get along with Zhang. Why do so many people here assume that she doesn't like Zhang? We don't know! She's apparently training with him for more than 7 days. So she cannot be really obstinate. She's a grown woman and left with little or no choice I guess she'll try to make the best out of her situation.

So, is there a confirmation of this switch? A lot of people are treating this situation like it's confirmed (also with the thread title change)

however, we have to think about Li Na.... who got fed up with the federation taking her prize money.... it's not the same in figure skating as winning a competition doesn't make you a millionaire.... but yeah... there are issues in both systems

JSF also take a large portion of their skaters' income?

that's my question too. Everyone talks like a real split and about Zhang like the only guilty is when there is no information or source.

Nope. Everything's still in a strange state of limbo right now. It's been a week and there's still nothing from any of the federation officials, from coaches, etc.

IFS went back and deleted their comment claiming that they had "confirmed the information" about the new partnerships.

The only thing that we know for sure is that Yu Xiaoyu's been liking posts on Weibo opposing the split.

So.... the partnerships haven't been officially confirmed at all yet, for all we know they may currently be in a trial stage.

Hope whoever came up with this insane idea backs up. Less than two seasons to the next Olympics, and I don't think Yu is better than Peng in sbs jumps. Basically Yu/Jin did a lot of 2As which are easier to do. And after Zhang retires after 2018, Yu will have no partner. I don't think it is good for anyone here. They should find a retired female single skater for Zhang if they think Peng is not good enough. I am glad at least Sui/Han are holding it together.

Peng can't even hold 2A-2A sequence together, so I guess Yu is marginally better. But you're absolutely right--Yu is by no means significantly better than Peng. She's also quite tall. I think she's growing taller by day, just like Peng. Zhang blames his back injuries on Peng crashing into him when doing the twists. Well, Yu isn't much smaller.

And if Zhang has his way, he's skating all the way to 2022. He's not gonna accept a "retired female single skater", and I say it totally in a non-creepy way--it seems like he wants his partner young and small. Preferably a teenager. I'm not insinuating anything. But he trades in his old partner for a younger (if not in age at least in experiences) skater twice already.

So the title has been changed as if it were confirmed as a fact..not just rumor or speculation anymore.

This is the most shocking news of the season to me. I liked Yu/Jin and Peng/Zhang respectively, but I don't know my heart can be warmed up for the switched new teams with the same degree. I can't imagine Yu/Zhang on the podium at the 2018 Olympics. I wished the federation seeks a new partner for Zhang among single skaters who has goods and a frame with an acceptable height difference to Zhang, not with this shocking way.

Zhang always strikes me as a weight-lifter while skating. Seriously. Does he have a cool head in seeking a new partner? Yu, only 20 years old, looks very delicate, and it is really hard for her to partner this aged married MAN for the new season. Is he a superman physically? Will he still be able to skate at very high levels after the 2018 Olympics? It seems that nothing is currently on the minds of those Chinese officials but the so-called hollow & abstract national glory. Poor souls!

If this all goes down I don't know if I could really bring myself to watch these new pairs. The whole time I'll be thinking "she was forced into this" and that upsets me more than anything. Also, I don't think Yu and Zhang match at all; in style, in temperament, there's nothing about these two that's compatible. There's about a million other reasons why this idea is horrifyingly bad but I'm too tired to list them all here.

And if he wants a smaller partner this doesn't make sense at all. Xiaoyu's taller than Peng Cheng.

This! I keep imagining them skating to centre ice and the announcer...I don't think it's possible to concentrate on the performance when I keep thinking about this controversy :(

have to say that this is one of the saddest things regarding this season for me...

Yu and Jin are/were (?) PERFECT together in terms of presentation, chemistry, musicality, movement. Yes - there were issues with jumps, but out of sudden pairing her with Zhang?! There won't be any chemistry and cohesion - it will be like pairing a weightlifter and ballerina...

The delicacy and intricate relation/aura Yu and Jin are able to create on ice is unmatched, in my eyes there won't be ANY benefits of those changes for anyone, only a big heartbreak for each one (mainly for Yu and Jin) carefully covered by Chinese Fed.

Sad...

Do you have evidence for any of that?
