Yulia Lipnitskaya

Eh, I don't think there's any need for that.. this is likely a reporter trolling for a story... though it'd be nice if Slutskaya were a little more self aware considering she didn't go to euro's or worlds the year after the 1998 Olympics when she didn't have a 10th of the attention and scrutiny on her as Yulia did this year.

And she didn't have a 10th of the internal competition that girls have in Russia right now. Practically there was her and Maria, only.

Interview with Irina Slutskaya: http://tass.ru/sport/1992606

I guess two silver GP medals and GPF are "nothing" and "nowhere" for great Irina... :sarcasm:

That seems like a stupid comment to make - was Yulia on Liza's level this year, no, but seeing as how the previous season Liza was not on Yulia's level - we can't really look at 1 year of poor competitions (and really it was only the FS's where she looked bad) and say 'this skater is done'.

There was a funny(to me) interview after Euros IIRC where Yulia was asked if Slutskaya was her idol growing up... and IIRC Yulia said she didn't even know who Slutskaya was growing up. (I find that hard to believe and I think she may have interpreted the question as "did slutskaya's success spurn you to try skating?" or something similar)

Yulia said it many times that she didn't watch figure skating when she was younger so it's not really very hard to believe this. And the girl gives the most honest interviews since Martina Hingis(something I value alot). Irina might've felt offended who knows for sure Yulia doesn't give a damn, she stays true to herself.

Who are these friends, I am curious? Her classmates? Or training mates?
The girl is Maria Stavitskaya, she switched from single to ice dancing this season, skating in Zhulin's group now. Guys're Moris Kvitelashvili and Vladislav Tarasenko, both from Eteri's group.

I am not really aware of the russian ladies of 2000-2005 , but having read somethings in wikipedia , irina should know fr

Listen to this and imagin yulia skating. I can remember all her movements 😍

It really was a perfect fit for her. I love the speed and power of the StSeq. It's a bit wild like her Sabre Dance was but much more subtle and delivered with precision. I'll always think of her and those stripes every time I hear Мегаполис. Same thing with SL and Don't Give Up On Love.

Loving all the photos of her just having fun with friends.

Ok...so I remember someone asking if she would ever wear a gopro and skate. I think her response was that it was a good idea. Well...I'm ready to see some gopro footage.

Yeah...I think her reputation as a flutzer or lipper is a bit over played by fans and judges. I hope she uses it to master her technique and become better overall for it.

Don't worry. The judges use the edge calls when you are not consistent overall. If she comes back as in 2013-2014 season, and even better as I would imagine, you'll rarely see an edge call.

In unrelated news it seems she is turning into a bad girl. :hopelessness:

I love it!

Even the UR calls are based on consistency.
So as long as she comes back strong and consistent, she might get away in most cases IMO.

I find the whole advertising campaign a bit weird... I may be completely wrong about this, but I thought I heard that there's a "bad guys wear Adidas" meme in Russia or something.

What do you mean? I don't get it. You heard that only bad guys wear Adidas in Russia?
Maybe you're referring to the interview of Adelina's manager, when he said that Nike deals with "Real Champions", only, meaning that Adidas does not?
