Yulia Lipnitskaya

I don't think it was necessarily attempting to have something new - Yulia has attempted to do music that was from the country/culture of where Worlds is that season; last year her original intention for the FS was going to be Mulan, she went to CoC and Worlds was going to be in China as well; this year she went to SA and Worlds is in Boston.

Thanks for the information! I didn't know there's a logic going on here, it does make sense to choose her music that way.

I'm not sure who is responsible for that, but I agree, for instance - she worked in off-season on improving her fabulous spin, what resulted in adjusting her head position to create stunning perfect teardrop spinning shape, but would you agree, that it would look much better if she let her leg go sooner, like at test skates?
Is that extra rotation necessary?
- she is drastically losing the speed and fluency of movement,
- it's not estethically pleasing (she looks like holding her aking knee tbh.:rolleye:)
I know she has been probably concentrating on her jumps more atm., bur these little details were always Julia's forte and she needs to use them to her advantage in my opinion.

Thx for pointing them out! I didn't notice these details, but you're totally right that they are significant to Yulia. Personally, I prefer the test skate, it looks much cleaner and sleeker, and makes me feel like it's Yulia's style. And I also like the old way she moves her arms, it makes her rotate faster.

Nah, her head was kinda hanging out in 2014, now she is leaning it back, "hiding" it between her arms* creating perfect shape - it looks amazing.
Just let that leg go, girl! :p

* I noticed that Zhenya is doing the same in her spin btw..

I'm also afraid that the new coach will change Yulia's style. Her body movements have some kind of poise that no other skaters have. (The kind of body movememts that you can recognise immediately without seeing her face)

I can hardly see Urmanov changing her movements for bad. If anything he will improve her in that area.

I haven't noticed any such changes with Deniss Vasiljevs since he started working with Urmanov. He has only improved. I can't imagine that he would do anything to change Yulia's style.

Urmanov should be intelligent enough to know that Yulia's style one of the things which make her special. A change would most likely be a change for the worse. I think he will concentrate on calming her down in competition, rebuilding her self-confidence and improving her jumps. With more self-confidence her style and expressiveness will also improve.

Of course not and we are speaking about Urmanov here. His best qualities as a skater always was his artistic part. Both in terms of musicality and body lines and movements.

Skating and now living in Sochi every day has to sort of feel like she is attending university except that this university is one of World class athletics. I imagine it's inspiring and sort of carries a special feeling with it seeing all of the grand architecture designed to celebrate sport. Hopefully this beautiful change of scenery inspires her. When her goal was to get to Sochi Olympics she stopped at nothing to achieve her dream. It is an interesting twist in her tale to now be in Sochi as a starting point. Fitting in so many ways and maybe just a necessary fate.

I think when she fell on the 3f in the Sochi Olympics during the SP she really lost the identity she had up until then of being a this girl made of iron. Maybe it's good that she is returning to a place where things sort of got away from her. On a subconscious level she can conquer any lingering demons that may still exist and in the setting that they were maybe even created.

Good luck Julia.

What a skater! What a fan!

Random question, if anyone knows the answer: did her mother move with her to Sochi, or did Yulia go alone?

I do not know but I have also wondered. I also wonder what's become of her beautiful rainbow apartment.

She has come back to face her demons and shout right into their ugly faces:

Listen, you nasty brats:
You shall not pass!
And at Russian Nats,
I will kick your ***!
In spirit I agree. Wording? I am not so sure ...  I would like to see Urmanov and Yulia do what they can for the Russian Nationals. No need to rush to the top too soon.

Sochi uniquely represents much psychological weight for her, and therefore opportunity. It's important you brought this up. She will need sensitive, empathic adults to help her make the most of this opportunity. Based on his interviews, Urmanov seems up to the challenge (remember the remark about psychologists).

And there is more. The environment is a superb fit for nature lover Yulia. There is an incredible diversity of plant life because of altitude variation, from a climate like southern Florida along the Black Sea (not desert extreme heat nor dryness) to snow-capped peaks as high as nearly 20,000 feet. About 25 miles from Sochi is a holy grail of botanists, a unique UN-protected biosphere preserve that contains an unrivaled variety of plant life growing naturally in wilderness, again because of extreme altitude change. It encompasses pristine areas untouched by humans, a unique treasure for crowded Europe. What I would give to be with her when she first sets eyes on Rhododendron caucasicum in full bloom in the mountain wilderness. It's a hiker's paradise, Sochi has a fine city arboretum and of course the Black Sea. The town is relaxed, by design. This is an ideal environment to provide the serenity that she requires to reach her portential.

I don't think you are from America because Florida is not along the Black Sea, it's along the golf of Mexico. And it can get very hot during the summer. (sorry for sounding a bit rude but I'm obsessed with geography)

I think I could spend my life trying to get the parts of a sentence positioned unambiguousl;y, and still fail. But I am a cut above Google translator. As for the heat, I was referring to the desert southwest where it charateristically reaches 115+ with little night relief. And it even gets Floridian humidity in the monsoon season. I don't mind rudeness when grounded in fact.

A commentary-free version of her TEB short program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DmF7dQoRBM

Most interesting part of it is how clear the audio sound bites are after the performance. You can hear everything quite clearly, including a few Yulia-english moments.

(Before getting Rainbow Dash)
Yulia: Thank you.

(Carrying giant panda. Approaches more fans with bouquet, gifts and postcard. Turns to lady behind her.)
Yulia: Can you please help me?

....And now we know Yulia's vocabulary is not limited to 'NO', "Moscow' and 'Japan'. :yes2:
