Yulia Lipnitskaya

I think this is one of my favorite performances she ever did.

https://youtu.be/1pzKMX48JU0

Everything seems so refined and deliberate. She slowed down the Choreo and had time to feel the swells of the music. Those who profess her inability to hear the music clearly haven't seen this. And...that piano always makes me nervous....she would jump and then land right next to it :hopelessness:

That was IMO the best performance of SL, movements were held out longer and everything had more nuance. Those post-Olympic Averbukh shows were the only shows that Yulia ever did...I know she did like what...15-20 of them more or less in a row? It must've be exhausting performing her Olympic programs over and over again. It would be nice to see her (when she's not busy training) do a few foreign shows with more of a fun and group-interactive atmosphere (eg. The Ice).

BTW, Russian test skates will take place in Sochi from September 10-11.

^It'd be nice to see Yulia and the other talented Russian ladies, but the rest of the competition would be a complete crap fest....

I mean, just think about who we would see as the US Ladies for example? Couldn't name 3? Me neither.

Polina E, Tyler Pierce, Bradie Tennell, Hannah Miller, Karen Chen, Courtney Hicks (at US Nats placed 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 respectively) I did have to check what the results at Nationals were and I had forgotten about Bradie but the rest I knew.

But also rather than the result already being almost a forgone conclusion, it would have been nicer if it was an actual competition with skaters who were getting to compete in major event for likely the first few times (other than the Russian Ladies, obviously). Instead for all the ones I checked and watched it seemed to basically be a repeat of their relative placements at Worlds.

On a slightly different note does anyone else think that the TCC would have been a lot better if it was the skaters who did not get to compete at Worlds rather than just another "Worlds" a month later?

I would've rather had fans vote to fill up every spot with any skater. Although, I do understand why we can't have every skater in a certain discipline from the same country, which could result from a free-for-all fan vote. I would not exclude Worlds competitors from TCC next year but I would definitely include all skaters in the fan vote.

How would they have sold tickets when your whole competition is "skaters who didn't do so well this year"?

Seems like this interview might be too long to translate into English but I'd be so greatful to anyone kind enough to pick out some highlights :o: Comparing Yulia to a Bentley sounds about right

Ok. Some highlights.
Yulia had a small trauma, really insignificant. It's all good now. He said they went B tournament recently and winning helped to boost Yulia's confidence.

Urmanov praised training conditions and figure skating school in Sochi. There is approximate 120 kids training there under his wings. He added that Yulia is a brand of herself, very well recognized like a Bentley. It is a great help to popularize and attract kids of Sochi and Krasnodar region into figure skating.

Urmanov literally said: you might not believe it but the find mutual understanding and common ground with Yulia in the very second day. On the journalist's question about Yulia's reputation being uneasy and perky he responded that it worth to find a positive side of things and proper way of converting any negativity into beneficial advantage. His own teacher in the past said to him no champion can be made out of "good boy" type. Sport cockiness, spunk and ambitions are very healthy for athlete in his opinion. Athlete should have a temper and can be moody.

TV host quoted Yulia about her being extremely happy to work with Urmanov and valuing understanding with him, she praised for being offered many options to choose from in case of any issues. Urmanov noted importance of feedback and two-way street communication with athlete. He except no less from any of his athletes.

Question about Yulia's free time. Urmanov doubt that Yulia have much free time. But he said she likes walks along the seaside. Her days off they hang together, sometimes she travels with other trainees and their parents around the Sochi. He is thankful to those parents to take Yulia along because he feels that athlete and coach should rest from each other time to time. :)
Yulia got excited about Skypark bridge in Krasnaya Polyana (valley in the mountains where they had second cluster of sport venues for Olympics) and wanted to try bungy jumping from 207m (621 ft) few months ago. Urmanov talked her out: "let's win a lot of tournaments first".[emoji3] I think it is this one: http://youtu.be/dRV4vXstCX8 Looks wild! Perhaps we will see Yulia's bungy jumping video soon. Yulia visits her mom often in Moscow. She just spent the whole week in Moscow recently.

TV lady obviously talked with Urmanov's wife Victoria before and she knows that Victoria sees Yulia as another daughter of their family, because Yulia grew up without a dad. Urmanov thanked and noted he always tries to treat his students with warmth. It is pleasant for him to hear. If someone sees him more than just teacher, or even as father figure for Yulia - it's just even better. Yulia and Deniss Vasiljevs getting along just great,.Urmanov "sparing" them against each other every day. Skate off, mini-competition. He gladly approves Yulia having a good relationship and social networking with other Russian girls, despite fierce competition in the ladies fields.

Urmanov lives aways from his family, but they visit him often in Sochi. They planning to move the whole family from St Petersburg. (NB: It's like moving from rainy Portland to Rosarito Beach, heheh). He said it gets lonely sometimes and tough to be away from family. His 2 twin sons tried a lot of different sports, including figure skating and hockey, but there is no substantial plans for them becoming pro-athletes.

Urmanov seems to be thoughtful and philosophical dudsky. :)

Thankyou Alexz!! :thank:

Oh the FEELS!!! It is so wonderful to hear that Yulia is being treated by other parents as if she were one of their own :luv17:....and as the unofficially, newly adopted member of the Urmanov family. :ghug:

Dear TPTB, we need videos of a bungy-jumping Yulia and a Yulia vs. Deniss spin-off ASAP!
Edit: Also adding a Yulia vs. Deniss sketch-off/art-contest to the list as well. ;)
