Yulia Lipnitskaya

Rumour has it that she'll announce her retirement soon because she has an injury that's not compatible with elite sports. I hope she will perform in shows - she has such a wonderful musicality and I'm not ready to let go off her as a figure skater just yet. But mostly I hope that it's all not true.

Whatever she chooses to do - to retire or to get a new coach - I hope she continues to bring people happiness, joy, and inspiration.

Edit: If a new coach, I want it to be Brian Orser!

To be honest I'd prefer to retire her now even for her own sake. She will be remembered as a champion and top Russian girl whose successful career was stopped by series of unfortunate injuries. Also in ice shows she can skate as she wants and show her full artistic package without worrying about injuries-productive elements.
And first and furthermost there would be no mental load which comes with competing.

And Buianova currently has Maria Sotskova. I don't know about any other students so it would be great option.
Even if RusFed allowed her to train abroad TCC is so packed I don't know if she would get proper attention there :(

I'm sure whatever Yulia decides to do, it will be the right decision in regards to her own wellbeing. If she does decide to retire then yes I will be heartbroken and I will never quite enjoy watching figure skating so much, but I will respect her decision and hope she continues to skate non-competitively.

She is indeed a figure skating legend. She was the Sochi poster girl, the youngest Winter Olympics competitor under modern rules, and her Olympic Schindler's List video on YT has had over 5.5M views!!!!

Also I'm gutted it's very unlikely we'll get to see Olympnitskaya again [emoji174] But nothing will ever top Schindler's List.

Which Adelina are you talking about? Sotnikova left Buianova a while ago.

Also- there's a new rumor- that Yulia's new coach might be Inna Goncharenko.
I didn't know that I don't pay too much attention to her.
There is so many rumors but maybe she wants come back to train in Moscow.

If she retires, I hope she will do shows. This girl has the star quality that attracts people. She can still get a lot from shows. People love her.

https://www.kp.ru/daily/26676.7/3697690/ - Eteri told that Yulia will never come back to her. She also told that in 2015 she bought tickets to Trophée Éric Bompard but got a call from the federation while Yulia skated in front of her that Yulia wants to go there with Dudakov but i don't know why they wrote that her results are worse after she left Eteri because all her problems started when she was with her.

It's hard to compare results before Eteri and after Eteri. Under Urmanov Yulia competed only twice (I don't count RusNat. It was just 2 or 3 weeks under Urmanov. Not enough for visible effects) and one of those competitions was Rostelecom where she had no chance to get good result in FS

Kind of lame... Julia left because Eteri was playing obvious favorites and (accidentally) publicly embarrassed Julia with some dumb comments she made that were then repeated on tv.

As for who to blame for the decline in Yulia's results... IMO she was going to have greater than normal difficulty going through puberty but I also think they could have done a better job and could have gotten another world medal that year. There were aspects to both Eteri's and Yulia's personalities that weren't conductive to getting Yulia into competitive shape physically and mentally.

Could you please give some more info on that part about Eteri comments? Perhaps I missed it in the past, first time I hear about it.

Talking about comments made by Eteri to Tara Lipinski... don't want to go further, you should be able to find them.

A post on a Russian forum also reminded me of Averbukh attacking Yulia after Skate America... and there's a good chance Yulia thought Eteri tacitly approved those comments.

Eteri is trying to create a good image of herself to encourage young and talented girls and boys to join her group but when troubles comes and something doesn't work she doesn't know how to fix it, she is just leaving this person without help and taking care about those who have good results. Yulia wasn't first student with problems who left her, in this thread I found that there was also Polina Shelepen who worked with Eteri for a long time but have to change coach. I hope Yulia's career does not end like Polina.

Yulia's career can't end up as Polina because Polina had success as junior and did not manage to transfer it to seniors. Yulia has Olympic team gold medal, she won Europeans, got silve at worlds and at GPF, so even if she retired now, she has already accomplished something.

Oh the dramazzzz. The 2016 Skate America-Trophee Eric Bompard period....there was enough media shitstorm from certain individuals back then to turn me off certain people for life. Not going to backtrack to dig those ones up.....bad aftertaste. In short, I'm glad and not surprised at all that Yulia left all that behind, said thanks/adieu and moved on.

Meanwhile....

I can't wait for Yulia to pen a tell-all autobiographical book titled "The Product".
