Yulia Lipnitskaya

Good news, I figured out how to download videos from ok.ru in the original HD quality; as a result, I can upload parts of the Telesport broadcasts on youtube without any losses on re-coding. I also wrote a script that monitors the site and starts downloading the video once 1080p is ready (the hosting uses the incremental processing, like youtube). So even if the video becomes available in the middle of a night, by the next morning I will already have a full 20-GB video.

I also created a new channel where I plan to post new translations. There is also a separate playlist with untranslated videos, for which Russian speakers can add their own translations (for that, you need to click "Add subtitles/CC" in the player), but these untranslated videos are unlisted, which means that they will not appear in the feed and in subscribers' notifications. I will try to be careful and not to be banned, but I will also save all the videos (as long as I have free space on my disk) and the subtitles, just in case.

Meanwhile, you can already watch the skatings of Polina Tsurskaya, Carolina Kostner and Satoko Miyahara with Yulya's translated comments. After Satoko, the broadcast was interrupted abruptly, so those who didn't have a backup channel had to watch the black screen instead of Evgenia Medvedeva. :p

Appeal, always. YT videos get banned for 1234567890 reasons, mostly absurd - if you fill an automatic appeal, usually they're going to bring your videos back.
Claim you own the copyright or got it from the moon, whatever - just send the appeal notice.

I've heard of many occasions when an automatic appeal led to an automatic permaban. :scratch2: I really hope things have changed since then.

As far as I understand, such videos can be accessed by the link, but they are not seen in youtube if you search them or open the list of videos (so maybe copyrighters or whoever had a problem with them will not find them).

It doesn't work like that. The copyright subsystem doesn't care about visibility of your videos, it will shove its green hairy tentacles all over your private channel in any case, and will ban you once it decides that you don't deserve to exist in its universe.

In 30 years or so its power may spread to our Universe too, that's why after Snowden's leak I stopped using Gmail and Google search (and Windows too).

Things We Learned From NHK:

Yuna's SP is a very pleasant, touching program, and that all japanese skaters have soft skating skills and good choreography. During her FS Yulia noted that Yuna did all her elements without preparations and with high speed, and that is always appreciated by the judges.
Queen Carolinochka is legendary, a role model for all ladies skaters, and that not everyone can pull off such a program and that music, but Carolina can. During the Gala, Yulia addressed that some people were angry and complaining about Carolina's second placement, she disagrees noting you cannot take away Caro's skating excellence and that it will be rewarded.
Satoko is graceful and elegant, a small but very talented skater. Yulia is sad that she never got to skate to Memoirs of a Geisha, but thinks Satoko skated to it beautifully and that it fits her perfectly. She was worried for Satoko after her injuries, noting that recovery was difficult, but that we see that she is fighting to recover and should rejoice that she is with us again. Adding during the Gala that she thinks Satoko is very much loved in Japan and around the world, and that she is a delicate, heartwarming, sweet skater.
Yulia wishes Polina luck on her senior grand prix debut. Denis makes a Light of the Seven (GOT) "blow us away" pun. Yulia points of that all of Polina's jumps are fully rotated. Denis makes another (GOT) "strike a spark" pun. Yulia notes that despite Polina's height/growing pains, back injuries, and problems with knees that she's never lost shape and has learned to cope. Adding that Polina's a smart, friendly, outgoing girl.
Denis was silent and heartbroken after Mariah's FS. Yulia consoled him...so did the comments section of the livestream #StayStongDenis
One time Yulia and other russian ladies complimented Soyoun on her dress, and she replied "Thankyou very much" in russian
Zhenya's combos in the second half of her FS is no surprise to Yulia, as she's seen how hard she trains. Yulia notes that a lot of the skaters were squinting during the Gala, and that perhaps the lighting is too dark causing lots of falls. Both she and Denis thinks encores in general are weird and out-of-place due to difference costume, mood, etc.
Yulia thinks Rika's FS fits her, and that despite wishing she had better posture, she thinks Rika's step sequence was emotional and impressive. Noting that Rika does not skate like the other Japanese ladies, and that she has her own style and charisma.
Yulia loves and admires Mirai's fighting spirit, and that she's always liked her not only because of her jumps, but that she doesn't skate or move like everyone else, noting that her skating is confident. She wishes Mirai luck, and hopes that she makes it to the Olympics.
Ksenia is her usual elegant self, and that Ksenia & Fedor's 'Carmen' is one of Yulia's favourite Carmens.
Both Maxim and Yulia loves Sui & Han; the interpretation, the difficult lifts, etc. Yulia notes that Turandot is a very strong piece of music, and that it is not enough to merely make a program and skate the music, but that the athlete's presentation, character interpretation is very important. Yulia notes that everyone should go watch (their coach) Xue Shen & Hongbo Zhao's 'Turandot' at 2003 WC, because that was a beautiful and magnificent skate, and you can clearly see the hand of the coach here too.
Yulia mentions that Deniss V. is the most hardworking person she knows he can literally practice his spins for 2 hours straight, and she's never seen anyone like that before. Adding that Deniss would stay training on ice for eternity until you kick him out.
Commentator Denis discovered that Adam trains with Ashley and he was like (Adam's) "my rival", and when Yulia noticed Adam's eye make up and Denis was like "not rival".
Yulia was sad after Jason's FS, and noted sarcastically that it was her turn to go smoke in the corner (in response to Denis' Mariah heartbreak).
Virtue & Moir's presence is a big happiness for figure skating, and that they are in such good condition.
Yulia joking about her own splats, "I loved very much to lie down on warm ups yes but then i started loving doing it in actual programs too."

Any feedback from Yulia about France GP us fans might enjoy? It was a rough event for many sadly.

I don’t know what it is about this performance that keeps me coming back to it at the most unexpected times. As a matter of fact, it’s the program that I now associate with Julia first when I think of her skating. It’s bittersweet because this was her last full performance before retiring (I personally don’t count the Kill Bill program due to it not being fully realized because of injury). At the same time I’m thankful to have seen this program at least once and for her to have performed it so memorably.

The atmosphere of the crowd. The ethereal, relaxed skating. The budding maturation of artistry. The guitar and piano echoing off the ice and walls of the arena. The 300 pound panda. The Skittles scarf. And one joyful kiss n’ cry. I had no other reason to post all this but to say….......this 6 minutes really move me. And I thought it might move others again if they haven’t seen it in a while.

P.S. Whoever selected the music for this performance deserves a gold star and a candy bar! Of course, I bought the music. And whenever I listen to it I’m transported right back……….there.
