Yulia Lipnitskaya

Of course you can. Welcome!! I like how Sandra sounded almost scared to talk during the team skate coverage of Yulia's SP. She kind of whispered at one point......" This girl is all business" and " It's like she goes into a trance".
CBC coverage?

I am all for many types of skating. I understand and appreciate programs designed to connect with the audience. But I live for the serious and intense approach that Yulia brings. She doesn't need to smile at the crowd or look to them for approval as she goes. I notice that she connects in a different way. A way in which the audience can only explain thru absolute silence.
She's telling a story. You may like it or not, but you ain't gonna clap around, because somehow she makes it clear, it's HER story to tell. After Yulia Lipnitskaya steps on the ice, she is fully in charge of her own fate. She's not looking for your help, she wants to perform, be perfect and let the skating have it's effect on you. Brave and risky approach, but I guess that's the way geniuses work.

Wow, I agree 100%. :agree:

And I hate absolutely hate everywhere else on this board where they continue the same old attempts to trivialize her ability. "She not artistic, she's a robot, (and one I just read today in a thread about Nam Nguyen) she's doesn't have artistic ability she just learns the choreography by rote until every movement goes perfectly with the music but it's fake not genuine. " I may have paraphrased a little but that was the gist of the comment. What is the concept of artistry but the perspective of someone else imposed on what the skater is portraying. So it just gets to me every time when these people continually state that she's not artistic despite the fact that many of the people on these boards disagree categorically with them as well as the thousands who evidently love her skating judging by the audience's reaction to her skating.

As Sam said there are programs that are focused outward and programs that are focused inwardly that many people still identify with. So why can't others just bite their tongue (metaphorically, of course) before uttering a comment that has already been proven false. Artistry is subjective, some people don't like her skating but many others love it because of the sheer amount of emotion it evokes in them. 2+2=4. You can't say she's non-artistic and robotic.

... I notice that she connects in a different way. A way in which the audience can only explain thru absolute silence. ...
... because her skating takes our breaths away.

9 days and counting. Yulia's Sp is magic and I can't wait to see her R&J.
I think people close to Yulia (Eteri, Mom, friends) are doing a terrific job to keep her focused by giving out no news at all. Though unbearable for myself, I am happy for her.

So... does this mean when it's Cup of China, this thread will be full of anxious posters who dare not watch the live stream, and constantly check the result page? @_@ I am afraid it might get overload!

I will watch for sure - I already experienced her falls in Sochi while being a part of the crowd and hope that now my nerves are ready for everything.

Anyone who makes such a comment is to be pitied, it is a reflection of their insensitivity. More than anyone Yulia becomes the music, her body is the visual instrument of the music. So are these detractors saying the music has no emotional content? I could go on and on about her upcoming short program (incomplete at the open skate--more to come!), but nobody would read it all and for good reason. So here is just one outstanding example of her artistry in Megapolis. In the middle of the footwork section (at about one minute into the program) she comes to a full stop with her arms crossed above her head, matching the full stop of the music's harmony. The next note of music jumps an octave, it's like a brutal slap that stings the face of one who is already beaten. Notice how she throws her body back on this note as if she has been struck violently, emphasizing both the thrusting character of the notes and its context within the general violence of this section of Megapolis. https://8chan.co/yulia/src/1414687670790-0.webm (link courtesy of papa). This is a brilliant example of her style, which always integrates the music's shape, structure and meaning into performances accessible to everyone in their own way. Just open eyes, ears and heart. And let's not be distracted by irrelevancies such as falls.

Keeping up with papa, thanks for telling about skate america. I watched the two Russians on youtube and was mightily impressed. There seems to be a Russian school of skaters emerging, something like the Russian school of pianists.

I've read all your posts sjid and learned a ton every single time.:)

It's gonna be masterpiece when she masters it...

Yes, artistry is subjective, but if Yulia was American, this whole forum would have been buzzing around "new inward school in figure skating"...;)
