Yulia Lipnitskaya

Oh dear, why do they have to bash Julia out there in the SC thread?
I have to say Ladies threads tend to be the most heated. I wonder why.

I was in the SC thread today, and I must say, I was completely annoyed at one commenter who bashed Yulia by saying her skating was too “juniorish”. :laugh: I just sat laughing at my computer screen and finally wrote back that no “juniorish" skater could ever win an olympic gold and a silver world medal during their first senior season at the age of 15. :yay: People are such haters. :rolleye:

Just wait for the CoC thread. :mad: Cut/Copy/Paste comments will be there as well! Just ignore it and post a picture of a giant water slide like I did. That should confuse them ;)

:scowl: I don't get why people criticize Yulia for skating to her age.

I guess I just hope in vain that I will be able to persuade them to at least keep an open mind.

Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish. Great man Euripides. ;)

I feel like there can be so much toxic criticism in the figure skating community that is not based off of anything objective.

Precisely.

Sam is right. Just wait for the CoC. I think I'm going to follow my suggestion and stay away from it. :slink: :laugh:

... I personally like to talk more about skaters which I like and I'm interested. ...
There is no point in arguing with negative and petty people. They will only drive you crazy and disbelieve your opinions.

:agree::agree::agree:

Does anyone have or know where to find the NBC version of Julia's 2013-14 Grand Prix Final and European Championships long program? I saw the NBC version of her LP for Skate Canada from youtube and was kind of interested in listening to these.

Thanks at everyone who reacted so positively to my comment about this whole "haters" issue. I'm glad many feel the same!

Like I think Alba said:
The reason why you bring someone up so much, and in places where this person is normally not even relevant, like in the SC thread, is simply because you think about this special someone A LOT so they come to your mind everytime ;)
Let's take it as a big compliment towards our "unemotional and disconnected" Yulia, that she makes everyone who watches her so emotional, that she is mentioned basically at every topic, cause apearantly she plays a big role in people's thoughts- fans as well as haters. Only shows the effect she has :) .

And [/B]Isabel[/B] I so agree about the negativity thing!
F.e. I'm not the biggest fan of Polina's skating. And I will say it like that. BUT:
When I explain myself I will use words such as "in my personal opinion" and I will point out my reasons in a respectful way- respectful towards her fans and herself.
I will not dismiss everything she has accomplished only because her style isn't my cup of tea! That's my problem, not her flaw, isn't it? She doesn't skate to please everyone's taste.
And I will definitely never attack this 16 year old schoolgirl on a personal level :bang: ?!
(Because some of the comments about Yulia have started to go way beyond her skating. ...)

I've found myself becoming very wound up over some posters who insult skaters at every chance they have and almost hunt them on this board.
I've lost my nerves once there, but we should calm ouselves down in these situations and not let this get to us to a point at which we hit back in defense, in the same shameful manner...
Like I said, let's just take it as a compliment towards Yulia and let her success and effect speak for itself.

@Isabel:

IMO when you spend time bashing someone is because this someone evidently is importante to you, or is doing something good that is making you eat your heart out. ;).

I think this is the heart of the problem for most of the haters, a really smart observation. Psychologists have explained many times how important it is to each of us to feel special, to be someone great. It's in our genes. This is positive if we use this basic need to accomplish something that makes us satisfied with ourselves. We often do this successfully by following in the footsteps of a parent or a teacher, someone we admire. By becoming like someone we admire, we admire ourselves. We continue to admire others, but it is always admiration from a solid ego.

But if we fail to be sufficiently self-satisfied, then our identifications can take us down a different road. In these situations it is common to compensate for personal failure by admiring a celebrity such as a sports hero, which only makes things worse because there is no way we can follow in their footsteps. Except in our heads. This leads to more disappointment with ourselves, then bitterness. If this goes far enough, we begin to believe we are the celebrity, so everything becomes personal and our fictitious celebrity-self has to be defended in all its greatness. Attacking takes the place of accomplishing, the venom spews at anyone who threatens the supremacy of our hero in order to prop up our failed egos. Blogs, forums and comment sections are often the stages where imagined greatness spills out into the real world.

You're welcome.:)
It's a good start, still torrent has holes: some bad quality vids, lacking some coverages from different TV-stations.

Being Yulia's
If not I'm sure Papa has it. Gif makers are notorious video hoarders!!:laugh:
is always work in progress - you have to snoop around every figure skating corner of the internet to fill in the gaps.
