Yulia Lipnitskaya

About social media
I think this is absolutely NOT concerning in Yulia's case.
She doesn't post anything innapropriate, neither does she publish too much privat stuff and most importantly she isn't hunted by some crazy haters like others are. Mainly I see love and support on her social media and it looks like she uses it to bring herself up rather than being brought down.

that's not the issue! the issue is actually people telling her simple things like "we know you will win" and "we love you" etc. these basic comments lay the burden of expectation on her and keeps it on her mind that she is being watched, adored, and scrutinized. so much pressure is added to her by saying things all of us wouldn't hesitate to tell her. this video gets into it a little, but basically it isn't so much the bad stuff that is the problem but the common stuff all of us would say...

From my vantage point, the possible problem with Yulia's use of social media is that it's a distracting form of empty social validation that may counter-productively make her more self conscious while she skates. If she makes a mistake these days I think she may have heightened thoughts of guilt and shame racing through her mind which make it harder for her to recover.

this is true but no one wants to admit that her problem is 100% stage fright since she became instant celebrity after sochi team! why cant you instead talk about her skates or her program lol (jk). fans don't want to believe they are part of the problem :)

What is your equipment? Let me guess, D800E with 70-200 f/2.8 vr ii
My opinion is - unless you're a pro, that needs to sell photos and make poster-sized prints... that level of equipment is completely unnecessary.

Actually, I disapprove of DSLR's in the audience anyway - I think people who use them are selfish and inconsiderate. They are distractingly noisy for people nearby, and the lenses may be so large that they obstruct the view of their neighbours, or even smack them in the face. Or force them to sit uncomfortably and keep one eye on the photographer, to avoid getting smacked in the face. I am pleased that many venues ban such cameras.

I used cameras like that myself for many years, but I got fed up of carrying those big noisy clunkers, and a bag of lenses. And I never used them in the audience at skate competitions etc anyway. I switched entirely to "bridge" cameras years ago - once they reached a certain level of speed and performance. The results are perfectly adequate for viewing onscreen, or printing up to A4.

For my still photos I currently use a Panasonic FZ1000. Previously I used a Panasonic FZ200 which gave pretty similar results, but is not quite as fast or sophisticated as the FZ1000. Both are very quiet and compact compared to the DSLR equivelents. I use the FZ1000 for video sometimes too. And my wife's video camera (used for the video I linked) is a Panasonic V550. We do everything hand-held, no tripods or monopods.

Both the FZ1000 and V550 have 5-axis image stabilisation and "auto-level" for video recording... which are awesome - if you can hold a camera fairly steady, and pan fairly smoothly, your video can look like you were using a tripod.

I don't think the problem with Yulia is due to her diet, though. She does look very healthy to me. And she has gotten a litter fill out in my opinion recently but that's to be expected as she is still growing. I don't think it's her diet or her weight that makes her struggle, it's her confidence as she still lands jumps in practice.
I do wonder about the social network though, she's a sensitive girl and what if she spends time on internet and accidentally stumbles something offensive to her? I hope not.

I uploaded my wife's video of Julia's Romeo & Juliet practice run-through, from GPF in Barcelona --> HERE

It's not quite the same after it's been through the Youtube mangle, but eh well...

Her jumps look amazing here !:confused2:
I mean those were triples right..?
Such a shame to see how she could do it all and was just not able to show it on the big screen..

Yeah, I was there in the practice and I really thought she was going to do well in the actual competition after watching that :( Which is why I think it is definitely a psychological problem, at least in part.

(I just got really excited seeing a blurry me in the video. HEHE)

Yeah, why can't we instead scrutinize everything she says or does. Is she eating, is she sleeping? At what time she's checking in and out from her social media? Who the hell cares about skating and her programs. These are the real things that fans should be concerned with. :sarcasm:

@YesWay: Thank you so much for the video. I was told she had a very good practice that day, and I agree with Caustica.

On this training FS in Barcelona skipped sequence of steps and a lot of other connecting elements. Therefore Julia saved a lot of strength for jumping. It should be noted that the problems she starts after the sequence of steps, ready really lasted for 2 minutes (SP or half FS).

As for RN. Detection of non-existent technical errors in SP, understated components, the words of Lakiernik between SP and FS about the problems in the technique http://www.sovsport.md/news/text-item/768611, of course, did not add to her confidence. Such statements are not acceptable and indicates bias!

I heard nothing about this. Lakernik spoke about the problems in the technique? In what sense, what did he said?

If that's the case I think the problem is her stamina, not technique.

"Because such jumps as the Lutz and flip need to jump correctly. Then questions it will not. Lutz - with outer edges, flip - internal. The technical team did not see these edges."

Recall that in the Protocol SP Yulya was Lutz < (!), Axel <.
Lakernik not even seen the Protocol, and pre-appointed edges...

And I would like to understand how one person can be edges on the flip (stages GP) and Lutz?

Ah, did he said this before the competition?

just before LP

Thanks Roman.
I suppose Yulia's edges were ok to him last season, right?! :sarcasm:

When he says "technical team didn't see this", is he speaking about Yulia's team or the tech panel?

In FS Julia fought as best she could. Fell down, stood up, fell... the Program was not thrown. I think this is a great resistance - to go and fight in conditions, when the Federation and judges not on your side...
