Yulia Lipnitskaya

I am shocked Yulia is struggling so much as good as she is. I really think the Russian media attention overload is negatively affecting her making her unhappy and it's seeping into her skating. She may need to leave Russia and train in America after this season is over. The media would not bother her here the way it does in Russia.
That sounds difficult IMO. It's not like the fed will cover their skaters' training fees oversea now that they are facing financial problem. Yulia will have to pay all by herself if she wants to do so.

I see where you're going with this. She is probably a superstar in Russia right now, but in the USA..."Figure Skating is a sport?" Not that many people watch figure skating in America. Gracie Gold trains somewhere in LA, a very populous city, and I don't think there have been problems with too many fans/media/paparazzi following her. So in that aspect, Yulia would be fine...

But there are many difficult factors. The cost of living in America is quite high. Transitioning would be most difficult. New coach. New friends. New language. New culture. Training in America would mean spending a lot of time here. Unless Eteri and her pupils all decide to migrate to the USA, moving here would be very hard. Even though moving would isolate her from the media, it would also mean isolating her from everything else she has in Russia.

I would think Yulia is making a lot of money and can do anything she wants. There is some great ice and training in Los Angeles so why not train there? Gracie Gold and others train there. Russian tennis players have lived and trained in America for many years and it's time for the Russian figure skaters to do that too and get away from the controlling federation and the overbearing Russian media that has worn down Yulia to a frazzle.

Yulia has succeeded in life like few others do and she has had a tough life. But I would like to see her work with a sports psychologist in the future. She is so much like Sasha Cohen now it is scary. They are both so beautiful and talented. But I do not want to see Yulia suffer from mental breakdowns that haunt her career they way it did to Sasha. I never expected this from Yulia because even at 15 she seemed just as gifted but much touher than Sasha ever was. So for Yulia to melt down this season with no Ade, no Yuna and no Caro as the favorites has been shocking to me. All the falls and the never ending FS falls has ruptured her confidence. Maybe working with a sports psychologist will help her. It can't hurt. I know it's not the Russian way but she needs to consult with someone to help her deal with fame and fortune. She needs to get her game back. Poor girl.

It's not like just because you go to USA and you're out of FED control. In anycase she has no reason to go there. She has her family in russia, but more important she has her coach and all facilities at home.
As for the journalists, they will still write about her, even if she was to go to America. So she has to learn to deal with them, and I'm sure she will.

^ITA. And I highly doubt that Yulia has enough money to train in US even if she wants to.
In fact, I am afraid there is no Russian single skater having enough money to move to US on their own without the support from their Fed, except those that have established themselves in history like Plushenko.
Most skaters, even the famous ones, are not very rich.

I don't think I've ever heard someone suggest that a person move to Los Angeles to get away from media before. :laugh2:

True, she wouldn't be as recognized in the US, but I can't think of any other positive aspect. The saying "you can't run away from your problems" comes to mind. She needs to learn how to cope with the attention if she is going to continue skating. The media will still be in her face around every competition. A good psychologist and maybe a long break would be more beneficial to her.

Honestly, I think she is much stronger than a lot of people want to give her credit for being. She is just in an adjustment period after never knowing this kind of life before.

That's what I think too. There is no reason to make it bigger than it is already. All the fuss about the media, social media etc. are useless. Mao and Yuna have seen worse. She will get used to it and will find a way to deal in her own terms.

Yulia has millions of reasons to go to the USA as do other Russian skaters. And they can bring their families too. Putin is damging Russia's economy and if the banks go under so does all the money. And Steven Spielberg would put Yulia in a big movie instead of Gracie Gold.

Yulia is wealthy and she would be just be another face in the crowd in Los Angeles the way Gracie Gold is just another face in the crowd. Yulia's life has changed so much in a year and all the fame and the Russian media has caused her to implode skating wise. The pressure is too much for her.

The big difference between Yulia and Adelina is that everything bothers Yulia while Adelina just smiles through the hate and the fuss about her and keeps going no matter what anyone writes or says about her. Yulia has just crumbled under the media scrutiny in Russia since Sochi and having so many girls from Russia to compete with has put extra pressure on her. I hope the little one can bounce back next season. She is a delight.

I was on youtube last night and saw a video of Yulia crying after her performance in China. It was only a few seconds but with a tear in her eye it may have been the most tender and beautiful photo or video clip I have ever seen. She has so many emotions. Yules is just incredible. But she's very sensitive and should not have been so distraught over a grand prix skate. That makes me think something else is going on with her. Poor kid.

Methinks you mistake Yulia for a typical Russian oil magnate. She or her family isn't THAT wealthy - very few of the Olympians or champions are. She couldn't afford to buy a flat in Moscow on her proceeds, so it's a good thing they decided to give her one.

And Los Angeles is a very expensive city. And the conditions at the rinks, not nearly as good as the one she trains at (or so I've read - didn't Artunian himself say as much?). I think Eteri is an excellent coach and I don't see any reason why Yulia should leave her, or her family (because it's not like her mother can just pick up & move over here too...it's not that easy). It would only be replacing one set of challenges with another and totally shaking up her world. I think having some familiarity and loved ones close to her are more important for her at this point of her life.

I don't think I am mistaken. Yules should be making big money after Sochi and I bet she is. Money aside she needs to take a break from skating and come back strong next season as an underdog not as the world favorite.

I generally have the (dis)advantage of living in Russia and I can see Yulia has no commercial involvement in anything (unlike, say, Plushenko) - so where exactly should she be making big money? And did you consider what her expenses could be like if she was her family's breadwinner last year, at least?

"A girl like a girl." The phenomenon of Yulia Lipnitskaya
By popularity in his native country Julia is not inferior to Americans, but its success in business while it is not audible. First of all - because of the lack of desire.

"After the Olympics, Julia could not safely go outside, all her words echoed immediately on the internet is not always interpreted in its favor. So the main task was to give Julia a break from this glory, as much as possible to fence it from consideration. 90 percent of the proposals that came, refuses. We are talking about demonstrations and advertising contracts. Although the proposal was very much ", - says Edward Aksenov, representative Julia Lipnitskaya.
Lipnitskaya has since been seen only in two major campaigns: the first was associated with a series of ice show "Show of Champions", the second - with the nomination of General Director of the Sports and Education "Sambo-70" Renata Laysheva in the Moscow City Duma. Shortly before the vote in Moscow, there were posters on which was depicted Laishev with Lipnitskaya, pupil "Sambo-70". As a result, Renat Laishev became a deputy.

Let's not discuss here who's damaging Russia and who's not, because it's not the place. ;)
Yulia and other Russians have no reasons to go to USA, not really. I don't understand why would somebody want to leave their country, when they have the facilities, the coaches and the money to train.

What makes you think that Yulia cares much more than Adelina about what others write or say about her? A part from the fact that Yulia is very much loved, she's most probably crying and being angry with herself not because somebody said something not nice about her but because she is too hard on herself, and wants to live up to the high expectations, always.

Because Adelina smiles though it all while Yulia gets ticked off. Ade can block out the hate and limit her frustrations but Yulia struggles with that. Not that she has hate but she struggled with the expectations this year and let it snowball into a bad season with a few bad performances. It does not mean her career is over or in trouble. I adore her. But I did not expect this season from her. She has let the media invading her life get to her too. No doubt about that.

Well, first of all I can also put a big fake smile on my face but inside I'm crying. Not all you see it's true.;)
Second, that's waht I'm saying. Yulia is a perfectionist, she is very demanding and hard on herself. This has nothing to do with the press though. This is normal, she is still young and will learn with experience that you have ups and downs and nothing is lost. She will deal with it.
