Yulia Lipnitskaya

Lol at fake Yulia pics riding on elephants. :cheer:

We've crossed yet another threshold of crazy. Come one come all :)

Please explain to me why the ISU scoring system is so inconsistent, extremely varying between international and national scores.

On a international scale, the highest combined score this season of Elena Radionova was 203.92, but at Russian Nationals, it was sickening 217.45.
On the other hand, Yulia's SP score at the Russian nationals was very bad compared to international events, despite she delivered a clean program.

This isn't exclusive to Russians, same applies to Ashley Wagner.

Ashley's best score ever at international events this season was 189.50, but a week ago at the US National Championships, she scored a incredibly unbelievable score of 221.02, which is hilarious considering her inferior jumping technique to the Russians (she isn't only rotating counter-clockwise, but is very prone to land on both of her feet).

For me, it seems like the national judges cherrypick one favourite, and ignore the rest. And Yulia inevitably lost the priviledge of being the darling of the Russian judges, at last since that drama at the Cup of China.

And it's kinda impossible to restore that condition ever again, when there are fail-safe prodigies like Radionova, Medvedeva. Everything is lost.

Yulia, I love you, but the odds are so much against you.

Yes, I don't deny that you failed that season, but you can't deny the fact that the whole judging system in that sports is so unbelievable subjective. Once you lost all support of the people who judge you, you're finished, because those people never change.

Just a general tip for upcoming posts, it isn't nice to say a skater is finished in a fan thread :slink:

To answer your questions...
1) both Elena and Ashley experienced national inflaction.
2) Yulia did not have her best skate at Nationals: she underrotated jumps and had shaky landings.
3) Wagner had a boost in her score coming third from GPF. Her PCS helped her make the score higher as well.

And to make you and all Yulia fans feel better: Both Radionova and Medvedeva have yet to face puberty monster. We do not know how things are going to be a few years from now; we can only hope.

It is not necessary to enter all panic - it is very sensitive people. Judges already explained: if Yulia will be able to clear the jump and return the endurance, the judges must be in his favor. And no deviations.

Alba, I was actually thinking about reviving Kill Bill so I mentioned you, remembering that you favored it last spring when programs were in flux. Kill Bill would definitely give her the extrovert look that Sandpiper suggested.

SP: Kill Bill
LP: Mulan

Sounds good to me. Except for one thing: I hope she wears a different costume for Kill Bill. That one looked a little... cheap?

I would love to see her with Kill Bill.

I thought her costume was perfect. :p I'm not sure about Mulan and Kill Bill in the same year though. They are both fighters, although the stories are different. Anyway, the important thing is that she has a lot of time available now to work on her skating and be strong physically.

p.s. I agree with bellflower. If she's back her usual self next season judges will give her high scores. Skate great and be consistent, should be no problems. No need to panic.

I miss her too and hopefully she gets a taste for wanting to compete again. This sport needs her uniqueness.

For sure all skaters struggle with it sometimes. Even Yuna Kim was reported to be an unhappy skater when she moved to Canada. Even Yuzuru recently said that it was so long he finally felt good in competition again. They all have to struggle with pressure.
What is happening to Yulia is not uncommon. She misses the ices, there is high chance that she will realize she loves competitions again. Believe!

I've got no doubts about that as I've said before they both have very strong characters so it's not such a big deal that they have a good fight once in awhyle. You can't miss the special relationship they share it's evident in their faces body language etc.

Eteri has other outstanding students. Are any of them complaining? We shouldn't expect someone who expresses so much emotion while performing, not to be emotional in other situations, not to express superficial negative reactions when things aren't going well. Everything indicates that Eteri respects her completely and knows how to be constructive even under stress.

I agree with you to some degree. There is a strong and influential group in Russian skating, that is very inappreciative and reserved towards Julia to say the least. Some individuals expressed even some authentic antipathy and contempt (you know their names).

If she hopefully continues her stellar career, I expect her to become world champion much sooner than national champion. :rolleye:

I think she already should have been National Champ
